But is it really any different than winning the UEFA Cup as we have twice. That also was the 3rd tier competition. We have to get over this idea that sone competitions are beneath us. If we’re in it we should want to win it or else what exactly is our purpose as a football club.
I would actually argue this is a 4th tier competition as the Europa League is basically an amalgam of the UEFA Cup and the Cup Winners Cup which were the old 2nd and 3rd tier competitions.

Although i believe that no competition should be beneath us there is an argument that european competitions as a whole have been severely devalued since around the turn of the century.

Previously, you had to finish in the top 3 or 4 or win a domestic cup to qualify for any competition in Europe.

A team can now get into a European competition by finishing as low as 7th (8th from next season). That is staggering.

Fully expecting the Europa Mid Table Confederaton League for those teams that finish between 9th and 13th to start sometime in 2027 :)

I know what you mean.

But Europa League was becoming seriously devalued and was on its arse at one point.

Then they included the incentive to reach UCL Group 1 and its a gamechanger. Its taken seriously across Europe with the exception of Spurs.

If Conference League winners are given, lets say a UCL Qualifying round spot, then it will become a serious comp aswell.

Anyone actually feeling bad because someone tells them that winning a “trophy” like this one is more of an achievement than reaching a CL final probably need some sort of serious help in their lives, or at least a new pair of proportion-corrected glasses.

Gooners giving me grief already. It’s got fuck all to do with us.
There was some hysterical kid on TV this morning who came out with ' we've won more titles than Spurs' which had me protesting at the screen. I assume he means ' currently ' but it shows how they think. It was also the main news on BBC with that Pratt Mike Bushell increasing the hype to give the impression of them winning something major. I take the point we would be happy to win it but the hype and spin is unbearable.

Point blank, they've had a far better season than us. We're a club focused on financials solely, hence the top 4 obsession and disregarding pushing ourselves to the limit to win any cups.

The point of professional sport is to win, to win whatever you're in. It's the aim to be the best. To fill the trophy cabinet.

West Ham have just added a pot to theirs. We haven't won one in 15 years. Thus far, in the 21st century, for a club in our position (infrastructure, support base, income, etc.), we're an unsuccessful club, period.

They’ve had a better season than the scum too. At least they’ve won a trophy. All arsenal did was bottle the league and get into a competition next season they will Peter out at the first sign of a hard match.

West Ham and city (if it happens) winning these two competitions is actually good news for us as it helps open up 5th for the CL for next season. So less pressure on that and we can focus more on the domestic cup competitions.

No tv or social media for me until well into the weekend. I’m just going to try and ignore it in the short term!

Leyton Orient also won a trophy this year. As did Sheffield Wednesday, Stevenage, West Ham and no doubt many others that we’ve already forgotten if we even noticed in the first place.

Good luck to them all and let them enjoy it. It’s fun. It’s nicer to win than to lose, whatever the competition.

But don’t let them make you feel bad about it because of some sort of specious comparison that crumbles under the faintest trace of reason.

Again I said this last year and got a load of disagrees. I think it's a mentality thing but I'd cringe a little if I saw these celebrations for us for a 3rd tier competition that only existed to allow the really shit teams to play in Europe
Our last two trophy wins were the League Cup which is the 3rd tier domestic competition. I'm sure we all celebrated those.

That was my intention but was taken by surprise when it was the main news and thought my wife would think I had gone a bit nuts if I reached for the remote at that point. I should have done though !

If we had won it, we would've celebrated as well. That's the trouble with the social media generation, they think the only time you can celebrate something is either the premier league on the final day or the champions league final.

Win a promotion playoff? So what, you're not allowed to celebrate. Win 3-2 away in the last 2 minutes of a game you were 2-1 down in? Get out, don't you dare celebrate.

West Ham were put in a cup competition and won it, fair play to them. Maybe one day we might remember how to win a trophy.

There seems to be a general “oh well done for them vibe” I’m detecting. Can we just be utterly clear here: FUCK West Ham.

Two of my WhatsApp groups have been a nightmare already. Logos changed to Declan Rice holding the trophy. “Do you know what one of them is?”

Fucking DISASTER them winning it. Disaster.

It will be unbearable for a while but once Rice goes and Moyes stays and they are struggling next season, they will be moaning again and it will be funny.

Once Man City win the treble on Saturday, this will all be forgotten and West Ham will go back to being shit again.

I have to say that some of the woe is me posts in here are embarrassing. Let’s get it right, they’ve won a tournament for the 7th best teams in the league to compete in. We couldn’t qualify for it as we finished 4th and played in a competition 2 leagues higher. Is that arrogant to say that it’s beneath us? I’d say no as it is a fact that it was beneath us which is why we weren’t entered in to the competition.
Fair play to them, they’ve won it and I hope they celebrated long in to the night but as far as this making them better than us, do me a favour. We finished 8th and called it a disastrous season, they finished 16th and were still in danger of being relegated up until match day 37 for god sake.

If any of you are getting shit from Hammers there is an easy response:

“The greatest night in the history of your club and all you can think about is Spurs? Bit weird”.

But it’s not the greatest night in their history. They, like we have won bigger trophies. To be fair, there are hardly any smaller trophies.

We’ve won far more and far bigger, but they have won some too

But let’s stick to facts. This is a piddly trophy for clubs that couldn’t qualify for serious competitions, and is nowhere near one of their greatest nights in football.

Some proper weirdos I’m seeing congratulating West Ham fans on my socials.

Clearly not match going spurs fans.
