How can they punish the clubs? Based on what? They did not compete in this ESL. They intended but withdrew that intent. The clubs will fight any punishment in the court rooms and win.
Based on maintaining there own corrupt status quo. No serious criticism let alone active rebellion against this ruling elite, will be tolerated.

It's still merit that you're the best performing team over six years. It's obviously shit and needs to be scrapped ASAP, but it's still based on how well a team does over a set period. And it was 12% of places decided that way with the vast majority (same number of teams that are in the current format) still based on performance in the previous season

The ESL was not based on how well a team does over any period. And that's for 75% percent of places on the competition.

I didn't say it's a good thing. I just think it's
  1. an egregious false equivalence
  2. Something that is only happening because those ESL teams have been strong-arming the rest of Europe for years to win that change
I respect your view. However, I think we have different boundaries of what constitutes "qualification by merit".
For me you see the competition is open to 54 countries however UEFA expedite 16 places to 4 of the top countries and a further 9 to the next 2 leagues.

If you're another English team then it's great but if you're champions of Belarus then it's closed shop

If they conspire with the prem league and they relegate us, we'd be in terrible trouble.
The debt we've taken on can only be serviced if we remain in the premiership or equivalent.
Levy gambled the whole club, and on monday it looked like he'd won. Now it is in the balance.

So if the punishments are terminal, we'd have to hope the esl was reborn.
If not, we have to admit the end was pretty spectacular,.
We would have failed reaching for the stars.

It wont be that severe as the clubs will simply rejpin the super league and i can see the fans wanting to join aswell. Relegation wont be good for anyone.

It should be a strong warning for future conduct at most. I dont think it even warrants a fine.

Again, I agree with that. It's not good.

The whole situation is farcical.

Everyone is crediting the fans for standing up to the money grabbing antics of the super 12 but what has actually been achieved? We're going into a set of uefa club competitions which are almost as closed off as the proposed super league and they are now doing away with FFP protocols because simply they don't work. Grade A Bullshit
It's almost like you had one cartel that felt threatened by a potential cartel. Hmmm....

The fans should now turn their attention to UEFA and demand UEFA to blow off the WC in Qatar and to make their finances and decision making more transparant.

It will be interesting to see what punishments, as it seems however they do it they will be punishing the players, fans, and staff all of who had absolutely nothing to do with the ESL decision.
From what I've read, points deductions aren't on the cards as it would be seen as punishing the fans.

On what basis can they even punish the clubs would interest me. Is there a paragraph saying don't go out and plan other leagues?
On the other hand I think all 12 deserve a punishment. But it should hit the owners, not the fans.

UEFA and the other Premier League clubs seem to want to keep this issue going. Not wise because ultimately they will need to work with these big clubs and it is foolish to antagonise them. They have got what they want and should just put it to bed.

Teams cannot enter or particpate in competitions not approved by UEFA, the PL .

Enter is the legal word they will base their case on, as will the defence I expect.

I find it very difficult to stomach punishment from an organisation which is almost synonymous with corruption.

A 20 point deduction all round would put Arsenal in the relegation zone

Just saying.
Ha ha but that's as mercenary as the Everton owner who favours punishment by points deduction but not because it would provide Everton with an advantage, oh no, please don't think that for a second.

Cant see any punishment sticking in court. Uefa couldn’t even get City’s ban to stick when they’d actually broken the rules.

Sort of wonder how this works as far as freedom to trade is concerned.

UEFA and FIFA two utterly corrupt organisations looking like good guys. It’s a crazy world.

However what can they do? What rules have they broken? Hurting the clubs hurt fans and then I will say bring on the Super League and stuff UEFA

If UEFA do apply punishments it will just reinforce the club’s appetite for the ESL

Hopefully the punishment is that each of the 12 clubs is demoted by one tier of European competition next season - i.e. we "miss out" on Europa Conference League and most of the others miss out on CL.

That said, we'd probably somehow pinch 4th in the PL this season if that's the punishment.
