Russia really deserved to win that, but England scored an equaliser in injury time.

Took the words right out of my mouth, actually. Powell has been in charge for as long as I've been watching women's football, and that's nearly 10 years.

I actually thought Powell should have gone a few years ago. I hope (pun intended) she goes now, they need a new approach.

In fairness to Powell you can only use the tools you are given, but there still seems to exist this vain hope that someones going to score a 25 yd screamer to win the game purely because the keeper is either 5ft 3" or technically inept.

I agree with the concensus that she would be much more use to the FA higher up with the chance to influence the English game in general, its not much but most football playing countries are way ahead at grass roots level. In Sweden you will see more girls in training kit then boys, My daughter is 7 in september and shes been training and played 2 matches.

Norway take the win in Group B after beating Germany. Impressive, although the goal was a lucky deflection and the game wasn't a great watch.

They'll play second place in England's group, probably Spain, so Norway should be favourites to make the semis.

Indeed. France just show the huge gulf between quality football and England.

I just don't know how England have become so shit. Either it's everyone has gotten better; they are nothing now without Kelly Smith and Fay White; or Hope Powell has nothing left to offer.

Coming up to 30 minutes and the game is getting 'tasty' now.

The ref gave a dubious corner and the Germans, particularly their keeper, got very pissed off.

2 mins later Norway get a penalty. The German keeper just saved it.
