Yeah, fluke goal, let the other team level it up and play on.

Bet the goalie wishes he had moved rather than just stand there like a wet sponge and let the ball sail over him...

Still should've let them walk one in though, either the guy who hit it back is that shit or he was trying to put it over the keeper, either way the coaching staff deserve a lot of stick for not telling the team to allow a goal back.

goal should stand I have no problem with that the keeper should have been ready. I wouldn't have allowed a walk in their keeper could have saved it but was being a bit to clever

The goal does stand, it's completely legitimate. Nothing the ref can do, but it's still unsportsmanlike. Player put his foot through that and it sailed in the goal just below the cross bar. Even if the keeper did make more of an effort, he was so far off his line I'm not sure he would have saved it anyway!

The manager's made an absolute dickhead of himself there. It is clear as day that the goalkeeper had no chance and, while I would give the guy hitting it the benefit of the doubt and accept he probably wasn't actually trying to score, he deliberately made it difficult for the goalkeeper when all he needed to do was hit a side-foot pass back the way everyone else does.

At that point the manager has to take full blame though, the answer is staring him in the face - just let them score. So easy, so obvious. The fact that he made up such a transparently bollocks justification makes it clear he just fancied himself a free goal in a close game.

The player obviously tried and succeeded in chipping it over the keeper. Under any other circumstances, it would be a great finish. As it is, the ref has little option. Should give them a goal back and if I were the ref, I'd have seriously considered sending the player off for unsportsmanlike conduct.

A caution is the most you can give out for that offence

I think it wasn't necessarily good sportsmanship not to let the other side score, but I think the keeper was at fault for not making any effort to get the ball and stop it going in.

Fluke goal?

He intentionally tried to put that over the keeper and in the net.

Guy is a twat for not just kicking it to the keeper.

You think? I thought it looked like he just thumped it in his general direction, he didn't really line it up or take much time over striking it.

Why did he have to boot it like that towards the keeper though?

Could and should have just passed it back to the keeper along the floor then no problems.

Manager has made himself look a dick head with explanation.

Not too dissimilar to the Nani goal against us. Legal goal, justly awarded, but against the basic principles of sportsmanship.

I hope we do something similar against west ham.

I would if we were tenth, but while we're where we are (what a baffling combination of words to type), i don't want anything to happen that could cause anyone to question our credibility.

When we get to the end of the season, wherever we finish, i hate people saying "Ah, but if it wasn't for..." because hindsight is a dumb, pointless argument and i can't be arsed to go over it again, or have to defend our final position, based on one moments luck (or lack of) leading to a particular result.

You mean apart from the bit where Nani actually picked the ball up before placing it back on the ground and playing on?

If that happened then Yes, apart from that part :cautious:

I didn't recall, as I remembered it was a shitty goal but fell in the rules technically - it was a long time ago

I think the keeper has been a bit of a dick there as he clearly could have moved to try and get it. I don't think the guy who kicks it is trying to score, although he's either useless or was being a bit of a git giving it such a hoof.

One of those situations where basically everyone is at fault.

1. The player for kicking it back with too much on it.
2. The keeper for being a smartarse.
3. The manager for not getting over it and telling his team to let them walk one in.
