Richards is well worth a buy. Wasn't that long ago he was in the england side, on a regular basis.

harry can get this guy playing really well, without a doubt.

he also has versatility on his side, being able to cover both right back aswell as centre back equally aswell (or not aswell as he used too) so could be a useful player

a new start might be what he needs as well as a somewhat stable club, ha thats pretty funny to consider spurs a stable club

His contract is till 2013 so the fee would defo be over £10mill if it was to happen, bit much for a squad player but he has huge potential.

City have had a few players who've burst on to the scene and then taken something of a fall. Michael Johnson for one, whilst Joe Hart's recently recovered the sparkle he had at Brum. You only have to look at how disastrous Dunne was last year, compared to his season this year at Villa, to see what a change of club and manager can do.

Richards has probably been in a similar situation to Bentley, the over-confidence making him think he was invulnerable, and then be unable to cope when he came back down to Earth. Dawson was getting the same criticisms as Richards 18 months ago, so I don't see why he can't be rehabilitated.

I don't see why Harry would do this. I accept he doesn't rate Hutton but Corluka is only 23 and Richards 21/22 so if you're Naughton/Walker what chance have you got to breakthrough? Harry talked the two sheffield utd boys as future england regulars up when we signed them so I doubt he would wanna bomb them out.

I wanna believe POTL as along with ValenciaYid I believe him to be one of the best ITK's but this info makes no sense to me.

I've never, from day 1, seen the hype about Richards. No touch, no technique, no reading of the game, no distribution, not tall enough to play centre back in this league and doesn't have Ayala like reading of the game to make up for it. All this kid is physically impressive, and that he is. Very fast, very strong. Not a footballer. Hasn't got he ability to play at league 1 level and is only surviving (just) at this level because of his phhysical attributes.

If we were Wimbledon of the 90's/ Bolton/ Stoke/ Blackburn then this guy would be perfect for us. However, we don't have morons who can't play football in our team and I don't want us to start.

As for Lennon, I think we can last till the end of the month without him so long as Modric and Kranjcar keep their form up, but I hope it's no longer because he is vital.

Undecided over Richards. He burst onto the scene a few years back with his displays at RB for both City and England, but since then his star has waned.

He has all the physical attributes that he needs, but like others have mentioned his positioning is very suspect and since he has said that he see's himself as a Centre Back this could be his undoing. There again he's very quick and this could help him out of holes whilst he (like Dawson has done) learns the discipline and positioning that is essential.

Those that think he could play as a DM need to look at his passing which isn't terribly good (i'm being polite) and his positioning isn't upto scratch.

If we can get him for the right price he could be a very shrewd signing by Harry as god help our 15 RBs get injured he could deputise there as well. You never know a change of scenery for him could open up a seat on the plane to South Africa as we're hardly stocked with decent back up for the defensive dept (Capello won't take King or Woodgate although maybe Dawson).

Richards has a 'degenerative knee condition'. I'm not sure how serious this is but could explain him going off the boil if he's coming to terms with things.
If it's another Ledley situation, he might not pass a medical but if he does I'd expect the price to be a lot lower than the figures mentioned.

i'm a richards fan. I think theres the player we saw under sven still in him and more. I think geting him at a cut price before Mancini gets him back into form would be ideal.

Bassong has decent pace but Richards was something else. Richards was the nearest thing pace wise to Ledley as a CB when firing. There was a time when his ball carrying and touch were lauded too. Even before G.Nevilles injury set backs he was being overtaken by Richards in a England shirt. I think there's hope.

for me, I was impressed with Naughton as RM, I would really use him there if Bentley left & Lennon is unfit.

as for people talking about our options for RB, Naughton & Walker are still young and we don't have enough time to develop, we signed them which is long term plan, in case if they developed better players, and no one know what will happen with Corluka.

so for now, we've Corluka & Hutton, the latter is injury prone and never impressed here, so Richards provide a cover for him & more important for CB.

Micah Richards sees Spurs as ideal home for southern comfort

Micah Richards is understood to have made Tottenham his preferred destination if Manchester City agree to sell him this month.

Richards is keen to leave Eastlands after becoming unsettled in the north west and, while Liverpool and Aston Villa are monitoring the situation, the England international has set his sights on a move to White Hart Lane.

He has started only 13 Premier League games this season and reportedly held talks with former City manager Mark Hughes earlier in the season after being left on the bench against Liverpool.

The arrival of Roberto Mancini as Hughes's replacement has not reassured him because he fears the Italian is going to enter the transfer market to bring in some expensive talent from Serie A.

Spurs are believed to be interested in doing a deal for the 21-year-old but boss Harry Redknapp is under pressure to sell before he can buy.

Redknapp would like to sign a defender if he could, with the fitness of Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate an ongoing concern.

Richards has extra appeal because he can play in central defence as well as at right-back, but any move may have to wait until the end of January as Spurs struggle to get rid of some of their fringe players.

One defender who seems certain to leave and make room for the possible arrival of Richards is Alan Hutton, with Sunderland, Blackburn and Everton all chasing the Scotland right-back for around £4million.

Tottenham have also lowered their asking price for midfielder David Bentley in the hope of tempting a bid.

Bentley has failed to make an impact since joining from Blackburn for £15m in 2008, but chairman Daniel Levy was still looking for at least £12m.

However, the lack of serious interest has prompted him to reduce the asking price to £10m and it has lead to enquiries from Sunderland and Aston Villa.

Striker Roman Pavlyuchenko has also failed to attract any serious bidders and he may now be allowed to leave on loan with a view to selling the Russia international in the summer.

The Evening Standard are rather boldly proclaiming that, 'Micah Richards is understood to have made Tottenham his preferred destination if Manchester City agree to sell him this month.'

Richards apparently fears for his future at City as Roberto Mancini will undoubtedly bring in some defenders who can actually defend, and would apparently choose Tottenham over Liverpool or Aston Villa.

Spurs will have to sell before they can boy, and first out of the door could be £4m-rated right-back Alan Hutton. The club have also apparently dropped their asking price for David Bentley to £10m, which could bring him into Sunderland's bracket.

Not fancying Richards really as I think we already have better right backs and a better CB in Bassong.

That said, he is a good Leeds lad and would be anothr addition to Spurs' growing list of Yorkshire puddings.

He's a Brummie.

I don't think he's that much better than Hutton IMO. Just has better build.

under a good organsied coach (sven) he was good. Under a higher tempo coach with less tactical nouse and under pressure to play a fluent attacking football he hasn't done so well.

Under mancini he's do well but i suspect, as he does he, that regardless of an up turn in form Richards' role at the club will be covered by Mancini signings.

Look at johnson pre portsmouth and then post portsmouth. I think Rednapp has shown he can get something out of young English defenders where other have failed. I would be hopefull that Richards can get back to where he was and beyond. If thats the case we'll have a wonderful defender.
