Not sure this really qualifies as ITK.....Pletikosa was interviewed on Sky Sports in December and said exactly the same thing.

This was said on FTL and was in response to the article about the Croat keeper signing. Alex did post his info back in Dec, and was just reminding FTL'ers he did so as today's article backs him up.

he told the newspapers last month he was joining in the summer! laughable that the news of the screws try and claim that this is something new

At least DC Boy will be happy that we are talking about a backup keeper.

I am in agreement with him by the way that Alnwick is nowhere near good enough to be the backup, to what seems like a pretty injury prone Gomes, (don't have the stats in front of me but seems like he has been hurt a lot since coming to Spurs)

Saying that I am not for sure Pletikosa is the right man for the job. Wouldn't he want to be playing on a regular basis?

What a stupid comment if i ever heard one, do some research before you come out with a throw awaycomment like this.
Gomes has been one of the most consistent players for Spurs lately.
A quick Google search and you would find that
Season 08/09 Gomes played in 34 league games and 1 FA Cup, 5 league cup and 8 European games, a grand total of 48 games.
Season 09/10 14 league games, 1 FA cup game, and 3 league cup games, a grand total of 18 games.
Pretty poor for an injury prone keeper huh :stupid:

Sorry for posting this in ITK but couldn't just let a comment like that go

So missing 6 Prem games and 1 CC game don't count just this season? That is more than a quarter of our Prem matches so far, I didn't say he was sicknote or Tainio and I probably shouldn't have said he was injury prone(poor choice of words) but he has picked up injuries for us while at Spurs so he could just as easily pick up another one and we would be stuck with cover that just isn't good enough and the entire point of looking at a backup keeper.

Anyway, this is not the place and my point is I am happy we are looking for cover as our backups now just aren't good enough to sustain any sort of injury to Gomes.

Agreed that we do need a decent back up keeper.
Goalkeepers by their very nature will pick up knocks, they need to be brave when coming for crosses and diving at players feet so a reliable back up is required.

To be fair, he did seem to be injured a lot when he first arrived. He's not injury-prone though. Most of his injuries (IIRC) came from insanely brave challenges for balls he should have left alone - because he was still adjusting to the English game.
It's no coincidence that his injuries have decreased at the same time his form has risen.

I don't see why we are so desperate to have another keeper tbh.
We have 2 keepers. That's so that when one of them is injured, we have a back-up. One of our 2 keepers is injured, but fortunately (in football terms - not for Cudicini!) it wasn't the first-choice one. Nonetheless, the system works.

I agree that we don't have a good enough back-up back-up in case the unthinkable happens and H-lo gets injured - Alnwick's looked nowhere near ready from what I've seen. But we don't need another keeper of Cudicini's calibre. It's unlikely they'll feature much, if at all, so we should be looking at solid, dependable, unspectacular journeyman goalies from the lower leagues imo. Save the cash for areas that actually need a first-team injection.

OK everyone, please correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Cudicini only sign an 18-month contract when he arrived last year? That would mean that If we get a good #2 keeper now, we woul'dn't be stuck with 3 good keepers as some suggest, but only 2 if we release Carlo.

Or do I have the contract length wrong?

You're quite right.

I take it all back, let's sign a decent back-up!!!

I cant understand why we persist with Alnwick and Walker if the coaches think both are not good enough to actually play??

Sell them both and get 1 replacement who we trust to be Gomes' no.2

Excellent point, I have been wondering this for a while, and also why we actually bothered buying Walker at all if we were going to bring back Alnwick when we had injuries to Cudicini?
