He's an absolute monster in defence, or haven't you watched any of our games this year?
He has that extra something that just fills you with confidence - one of the buys of the century so far for sure.

I think it is you who hasn't watched our games. He's been good on the whole, started to work well with Dawson, but Dawson has looked by far the more assured of the pair so far.

A good buy, a potentially long term great player, but as of yet, you have just about made the overstatement of the century.

I've just heard from a good source (gave me the crouchy deal) we are v.close to the signing of Louis Saha on a free! We are also v.interested in Jagielka...don't know about anybody going the other way but Saha apparently is v.close to happening.

If that is true shame on Saha for fucking over Everton. He was going nowhere at utd with a poor injury record and Everton took a punt.

Does Jagielka come with a money back guarantee and a valid m.o.t???

Bassong reminds me a bit of Dawsona couple of seasons ago, in the fact that he needs to play alongside an experienced centre back. Dawson has stepped up now and he doesn't need Woodgate or King alongside him. I'd also expect him to handle partnering Kaboul a lot better than he did before. Bassong and Kaboul together would struggle though i think. But Bassong hasn't been in England all that long, and he is 3 years younger than Dawson. Not too disimilar to Kaboul. They're still getting better and will probably be a lot better in 2-3 seasons. In the meantime, they need Woodgate, King or Dawson alongside them.

Roger also added :

Wanted Upson but Dawson's brilliant form means they won't be pursuing that because it may unsettle the lovable lad.

well putting these three specifically aside. the idea that a player from a team doing badly is automatically bad and will never be good again is only true if sport was played on paper or in a stats machine. There are psycological reasons why teams/players are in bad form and managerial deciosn that can also affect results.

Had we not changed manager last season we might have gone down... but would lennon, modric, woodgate etc be labelled as no hopers by other fans based on that seasons poor form? No! They'd be well sort after and sensible fans would be joyed to be linked to them.

I'm not saying we should be joyed at being linked with Kaboul i'm just saying the lists of reasons why people would be apposed to it should not include sweeping nonsense about them coming from a poor team. Postioning sense, atttitude, tackle sucess rate etc etc etc. Bassong, despite coming from a rubbish team has proven to be a worthy CB for a top 6 PL side.

Yeah fair enough mate, agree with you!

Why is that any defender who is comfortable with the ball (which every player should be, they are professional footballers after all!) but not so good at defending should be converted to a defensive midfielder??

I am not convinced by Bassong yet, looks like he gets bullied off the ball a bit to easy at times, he always stands off his man, on the forwards back, lets the forward take control of the ball and pass it off or roll off him. His positioning is a bit suspect too but this will take time to get used to with new teammates.
Watched both Fulham and Everton and was worried about him.
I know he is still young so hopefuly he can learn from King,Woody, and Daws.
