Both replying to :

Someone i work with has said he is hearing from liverpool end that
tottenham and liverpool have agreed a deal which will see pav and
babel swap places. He said they are desperate for a striker and cannot
afford to buy outright and are trying to do this deal. Can anyone confirm
this.

Ryan Babel for Pav... I would like a straight swap, (because I think babel would get more game time than Pav) but would rather have the money.

Well Pavlyuchenko to Pool was certainly in the press about a month ago,on loan I think. I'd be surprised if this happened. Not may swap deals happen in real life and is Pavlyuchenko really going to get a look in at Pool (when Torres is fit). He'll just go the way of Voronin.

I like Babel think a swap deal for Pav would be great

he's fast direct and got a hell of a shot plus he can play on either wing or upfront

he'd be a good impact sub/Lennon back-up

Babel wouldn't improve sat on the bench and i really believe Harry when he said that he doesn't need 4 top level strikers. If Pav goes then i would expect to see a signing in the Summer, perhaps, depending on how the squad's looking, but until then we're not desperate. Crouch and Defoe haven't shown any weakness in hard tackles, and we know that Keane can take a crunch without more than a blink.

Babel is not the way forward. If we're to sign another striker to replace Pav then it needs to be a big, young lad who won't mind being the alternative option, rather than frustrated at not being first choice.

He's had more of an impact than Pav in English football.

But then again I suppose that's not saying much for either of them really.

I think Babel would be a better 4th choice striker than Pav, because he can do a job on the wings (although i think the big reason for his failure at Liverpool is the fact he is considered a winger, whereas I think he is a striker). He has pace, which Pav doesnt have, but if either one of them showed real desire they would be the better player easily.

It might be a deal we go for because Harry might reckon he can motivate Babel better than Pav, plus Babel has more re-sale value.

However, from what I've heard Pav is not enjoying England at all and would rather go home. I'm not sure if he really wants to go to Liverpool, run the risk of sitting on the bench there having uprooted his family again, with the distinct possibility that a new manager will come in and he will be out in the cold yet again.

I don't see why we would help out Liverpool, a team that with all their problems are only a 4 points back of us? If they want to buy Pav for the going rate then fine but we don't need Babel and to do this deal would be stupid if you ask me. Even if you rate Babel, just buy him from them for a cut rate deal and forget about giving them a striker they need to cover for Torres.

I would rather just eat Pav's contract and sit him on the bench every week instead of giving him to a cash strapped Liverpool so we can get a decent(I am being nice) left winger/striker in Babel who would probably play even less for us than for Liverpool in a position we have more than covered.

Agree with every single word of that, but the bolded part especially - it's an absolutely vital point to consider, IMO.

Fans on the Ajax message boards were, largely, delighted to be rid of Babel. He didn't have the composure and goalscoring instincts of a central striker, and as a winger, he'd always rather try one more stepover rather than playing the ball in.

Since joining Liverpool, it's clear that the fat waiter has never been convinced that Babel could do a job for the team.

I'd rather get cold, hard, cash for Pav and spend it on a player who could improve Spurs, rather than give Liverpool a player (Pav) who may do very well for them. Plus the scousers now desperately need a central striker with Torres out for 6 weeks. If the fat waiter thought Babel could play up front, he wouldn't be trying to flog him.

Admittely Benitez is a piss poor judge of a player, but I do hope this deal doesn't happen.

I hoope this is well wide of the mark, Babel is completely wrong for the EPL, wrong mentality, gutless player...lots of ability, but lacking the right attitude. Reminds me of someone.

One goal/good performance in about 8 and if you're complaining about playing you should at least look like you're putting the effort in, which I've yet to see from him at Liverpool. You can put it down to the manager and quite rightly given Liverpool's massive wobble and injury problems (and long may this continue!), but I think it's down to Babel.

Highly rated before the Liverpool move? In Holland? Moved to England and didn't live up to the expectations? Start listing players now and we could be here a while.

Loads of Liverpool fans cannot stand him and from what he's shown so far in 3 (?) seasons in England on the back on a pretty sizeable transfer fee I can see why.

No thanks...if he's not good enough for Liverpool*, he's not good enough for us.

*Keano's a different kettle of fish, even with his shocking treatment by Rafa and relatively poor form (compared to the form he was in alongside Berbatov), he still contributed more in 4 months or whatever to Liverpool than Ryan Babel has...and weighed in with a fair share of assists and goals in what realistically was/is a two man team.

i think its dumb to sell to your direct rivals...why should we help liverpool? Babel is not worth the risk that Pav will smash them in at Lpool which I think he will do if he gets a run
