Not sure if this has any importance but Babel said on his twitter that he's not in the squad for the game tomorrow and has no idea why Rafa has left him out.

The obvious risk is Pav scoring loads meaning Liverpool overtake us. I've always seen something in babel to make me believe he could be very good. Our squad us fairly balanced but without Lennon and Defoe we desperatly lack pace which babel has shir loads of. I would rather Pav went back to Russia and we sign Saha on the cheap

I think Babel reflects the problems that many current footballers now have. Squads are too big and they just cannot play themselves into form.

How many consecutive starts has he had for Liverpool? Like many players, one bad game and he is dropped for the next. Look how our team has benefitted from being a basically settled side. I'm sure that, in previous seasons, the odd bad game by the likes of Assou-Ekotto or Huddlestone would have seen them on the bench for the next game. However, HR has kept faith with them and has been rewarded.

This is not to say that I'm in favour of buying Babel, but I think that he is a difficult player to assess.

My 2 cents worth...... Liverpool are underhanded - our cancelled game was all about Mascherano being off suspesion and Rodriguez being signed up and ready to play one game later. They'll push this one hard, Pav will be an angle to work in relation to Hiddink replacing Rafa in a few weeks.

Either that or I'm a horrible cynic

P.S It's a bda deal for us, we'd just be making them stronger. We would effectively be swapping a 4th choice striker for a 4th choice striker - he's no winger in our squad, we have Kranjcar, Lennon, Modric and Gio. For the scousers they'd be swapping a squad player for a starter with a proven international record.

lmao what really makes people think Pav would scores loads for the scousers

seriously Pav aint that good a complete soft touch with no workrate he'd be as out of place at liverpoo as scheva was with cheatski

Babel on the other hand could be a useful option because of his pace and dribbling ability not to mention he's younger and actually speaks English

They were scared of playing us before an important (only chance of a trophy) game for them, but I thought Mascherano was badly injured when he was sent off
Either way it has backfired with Gerrard, Torres, & Benayoun out injured and surely Rodriguez will have to adapt to new team/league before showing what he can do.
Come on Spurs 3pts at Anfield for the first time in bloody years.................please!?!

I think it is more about what the deal would give each team. Losing Pav wont weaken us, but we are unlikely to use Babel much either. We have at least 3 wide players who would be picked ahead of him, and the same with the forwards.

However, Liverpool would be getting a player who would fill an niche in their starting 11. There is no guarantee that Pav would succeed there, but he would at least get a chance as he's better than any other cover they have for Torres.

Better for us to leave this deal well alone. Leave Liverpool to find another striker rather than provide a possible temporary solution to their problem.

why would we want to strengthen one of our biggest rivals for 4th?!?!?

I think you're judging Pav really rather unfairly there - just because he's not made it at the Lane, it doesn't instantly mean he's got no skill, he's a very accomplished striker who, once settled amongst the right squad, will no doubt start chalking up the goals and i totally agree with guy and others who have said it would be nuts to offer such a close rival in the league any kind of opportunity to make their squad stronger.

I like the idea of Babel just because he would give us a pacey alternative to Lennon if he happened to be out. After all that time in the bench though, suspect he would want some guarantees of first team football which I'm not sure that we could offer. Would be pointless for him to move from one bench to another

Some on here are saying that if Pav moved to L'Pool we will be helping out one of our main rivals. I beg to differ on this because, in any case L'Pool will still look to strengthen their strike force in this window. They will have to do that as we all know, whether it will be Pav or someone else.

I believe that in this transaction, we only have to look at whether making this deal will benefit our squad or not. Is swapping Pav for Babel good buisness on our part or not ? Irrespective of who the other team is, that point should not come into the equation.

As for my own opinion on the subject, I think that if this swap is made, it will be a good piece of buisness on our part.

Spot on. I still think Pav is okay-to-decent at very best, but even allowing for him not being all that great of a striker, he'd improve Liverpool while Torres is out and we would be mad to consider doing that, IMO.

Personally I don't think Pav would improve Liverpool at all. Nothing to do with his ability but more to do with the fact that Benitez is so stubborn in regards to his one up front with the 3 behind that he is only going to play when Torres is out.

And Torres possesses everything that Pav doesn't, pace, strength, movement, workrate. They would be better keeping N'Gog on his own up top.

If they were to sack Benitez and brought someone in who wasn't so blinkered and bone-idle about his formation, and were to suggest playing Pav up front with Torres, then I would say no deal.

But Liverpool cant afford to sack Benitez at the moment, so that is a moot point I guess.
