VDV left because of bad start with AVB?

Saw this too, left a little bit of an uneasy taste in my mouth as I much prefer his reason for leaving being for reasons out of his control (ie. his wife). As my favourite recent Spurs player, I dont want him to have any bad feelings towards our club but these quotes perhaps suggest he was slightly bitter when he left. I hope in reality that wasn't the case and he continues to speak fondly of us

Very odd and pretty weird decision if that is why he left-think it is just an excuse for him to go to hamburg though

Interestingly that in preseason AVB was picking siggy over VDV and then after siggy wasnt seen and Dempsey was always number one

I hope AVB doesnt think Dempsey is better than VDV:oops:

Nothing wrong with that. I suspect something was lost in translation, which makes it seem a bit blunt, but essentially that could be interpreted as AVB trying to make it clear that reputation alone isn't enough and that the players need to deliver.

If anything it sounds like VDV felt a bit threatened by the arrival of Sigurdsson (who at the time was seen as full of promise by many, including the club I suspect), and wasn't given immediate reassurances about his place in the team.

Yeah that's probably the case mate.

From memory - wasn't he linked to a move away by ITKs before AVB even joined? Anyways, AVB is the HC, VDV just a player. I'd still like him here but we currently sit 3rd and have had all manner of issues to deal with so I'm glad it's VDV that left tbh. And I luuuuuuuuuuuuuurve Rafa. Don't want to read the quotes in case I cry a little.

Short version - players come and players go. Even shexy ash mofos like VDV.

Oh come on, VDV was a superbly fantastic player for us. We all loved him. We were all gutted to see him him go, but no other manager would have a player play for 50mins a game, certainly not a new young manager. I knew he was gone when he wanted the no. 10 shirt.. It just didnt. Look right on our Rafa. AVB was also conscious of the big stars. Tbh, he only kept Gallas.

This is not to say that I didn't like Rafa,I really love him, but as soon as AVB came in, I kinda knew he'd be gone. Never wanted it, but knew he would go. Seems Rafa felt the same.

Nothing in that article should come as any sort of surprise to anyone remotely sensitive to subtext. It was all out there at the time.

It is a shame as VdV could still be an important player for us; his guile and commitment have been sadly missed, with neither Siggurdsson or Dempsey looking an adequate replacement. Holtby might be, in time.

Hopefully it is another mistake AVB has learnt from; I get the impression that he made quite a few in those first couple of months.

Not ITK, just tapping up by Hamburg through the press. The angle the journos took was about him wanting to spend more time with his (now ex-)wife.

He's chatting rubbish, we all know why he left. But now he is not with Sylvie no longer he feels like a mug saying that it was for her.

Well if JJetset is to believed - AVB was told that he sold Modric and VDV he could have Moutinho. So in that respect I understand why AVB was maybe looking to plan without VDV.

Ah right. Still, a crying shame he left. Just loved that he was a THFC player. It was always going to end at some point. In some ways the ripping the bandaid off quickly was probably the best way. For my heart it was.

VDV can say what he likes, but we all know that Harry had his favourites and indulged them.

I'm actually pleased that Villas Boas operates like this as it creates a more harmonious squad and a chance for everyone.

We've shown we can survive without VDV and for all the fanboy love, he wasn't a Hoddle and despite his many great moments his role often inhibited other players and inbalanced the team.

*ducks*

Yes, because we believe every article we read in the press that is unsupported with quotes.
