But we did have Berbatov but he left for a bigger club didnt he? If he was Arsenal I doubt if he would have left, therefore making Arsenal a much bigger club than us at the moment. Despite our turn around, we are still quite a distance from them overall.

Anelka, Cole, Overmars, Petit, Vieira, Henry, Flamini, Hleb, Adebayor and Toure were all more than willing to leave to go to massive European teams, Adebayor, Toure and Cole were obviously tempted away by money. Cesc would have also jumped ship if Barca had stumped up the cash.
However, with all that money from those players, Wenger has pulled off some great signings for relatively low fees in today's market and they continually get in the CL so until we can qualify year in year out then the gap is still there for sure.

They lost Henry to Barca. They will lose Fabregas to Barca too. The difference is, they don't sell to their Premier League rivals. It's no different to us losing players to Man Utd though.

Actually it is, yes it still means the player see's them as a stepping stone but it also means that Arsenal are not directly affected by the players contribution to their new club in the same way we were by selling Berbatov and Carrick. We sold Berbatov to Utd (he forced his way out) but if he tried that shit at Arsenal he would have been told categorically he has to go abroad and not to Utd, thats the mistake we made. Hopefully Levy will take this line in the future if any of our stars want to 'further' their careers.

I don't remember an Arsenal player wanting desperately to join Man Utd, but I remember Ashley Cole wanting to desperately join Chelsea. We've only had 2 players like that in the past 10 years, Carrick and Berbatov. Both happened to desperately want to join Man Utd.

The biggest difference was, we didn't have Champions League at the time, so found it much harder to convince either to stay. They might have still gone anyway of course, but the choice was easier for them.

But then dont a lot of players get their wish when they want to leave? Ronaldo wanted to leave for Madrid, they kept him for 1 more season and then he left. Fabregas now wants to go to Barca, they've kept him for this season, but I bet he leaves next summer. Berbatov wanted to join Man Utd after his 1st season, we kept him 1 more year, and then he left.

Apparently Chelsea's squad is heavier than any other in the premiership, which surely makes them the biggest team.

The Scum are obviously bigger than us and have been for nearly 20 years. But yes the gap is closing and when we move into the new stadium it'll be almost non-existent

However, it's wrong to say they've done it by not changing manager 'too frequently'. They've done it by choosing good managers and not having to change. Much as we hate them, Graham and Wenger did the business - Graham only left because ot the 'bung' thing. Wenger is still there. They made a mistake with Bruce Rioch in between and he was out as soon as results went the wrong way

We got rid of managers who looked like taking us down to Div 1/Chmpship or who spent a fortune and had toilet results. Only BMJ was actually doing well when he went and that was Levy choosing somebody he thought would be even better. Ramos' record was almost as good as Mourinho's before he arrived and how could Levy have known it would be a disaster in the second season ?

As one of the Spurs faithfull old timers it galls me to see our bitter rivals ahead of us in a) international stature, b) income, c) stadium size d) continuity e) quality of squad as I can remember very clearly when it was mainly the other way round for many a year.
Thanks to Suger and now Enic (D.L.) we're finally making progress after so many years of poor administration and guardianship of our beloved Tottenham.
As I believe Million said they overtook us during the Wenger years, however "nothing is permanent" and at long last we are now much closer to them than we have been for the last 15 years. A few years of Champions League will see us up there regarding international recognition, hopefully our stadium plans are approved soon so that we can compete with them evenly on that front. These two factors combined will give us a much larger income and provide continuity while our quality of squad is already close to the theirs.
This is a great time to be a Spurs fan and long may it continue, hopefully I'll be around to see us win the league again, Champions would be nice too.

We're still some way behind Arsenal. They will not lose at home to the like of Wigan, their mentality means they get the job done there.
They may not lose this, but they'll lose to Cheatsky while we win, like last season

Henry was good business as he had passed his best. Fabregas going to Barc is not the same as Berb going to Man, as 1) Barca is not Rival in the EPL 2) Anyone leaving any team in the EPL to play for Barca is a step up, as they are bigger than any team in the EPL in my opinion.

Spot on. Barca/Real/the Milans etc. Sod the double whammy of weakening ourselves and simultaneously strengthening direct competitors. That kind of thing was fine when we constantly fumbled around for a top 10 finish. I wished Teddy all the best at Yanited. Glad to see him win stuff. Not now though. Even if we lost a couple of mill on an asking price, I think the "not fisting our own arses without lube" bit makes up for that. And then some.

I understand completely why Berbatov was sold to Utd and am not condemning Levy about it... I just hope we don't let any of our player strengthen them now while they are in genuine competition with us...

Me neither. Had to be done in the end and Levy got the max out of it under the circs. No more though.

One would hope that the fact Levy has always been "different" means the lazy ****s do their own frigging scouting from now on anyway.

1) Like I said before, the Arsenal players haven't wanted to jump ship to Utd, or Man Utd haven't even gone in for their players. They've come in for Sheringham, Carrick and Berbatov in the past.

Also, those players have wanted to go to Utd not Barca. So while we would be better off selling them abroad, when a player wants to join a certain club, it's hard to keep them from doing so (especially with only a couple of years left on their contracts).

If Utd go in for an Arsenal player, then who's to say Utd wont get them? Chelsea got Cole. Man City got Adebayor. Why would it be any different for Utd? It just so happens that Berbatov always had dreams of playing for Utd, and i'm sure Carrick did too.

2) Arsenal players joining Barca are joining them because they're a bigger club. It's the same principle as our players joining Man Utd. Both Barca and Man Utd are 2 of the biggest clubs in the World. Both clubs are bigger than Arsenal and Spurs. So its similar in that respect.

I think every chairman in the world hates dealing with Levy somewhat, he clearly is miles better from a business perspective with the general people he deals with and is thus treated with caution. As you say lets hope that deters Utd from coming back to us. Strangely the sides who's owners seem to enjoy dealing with Levy is Real Madrid and Portsmouth which is strange.
