Was the appointment of Ryan Mason racist?

Well if Windy is pushing this agenda then he should really be ashamed of himself.

Mason was clearly brought in because he has the 'Tottenham DNA'. He was there at the start of Poch, has great ties with the fans and great ties with the squad. Ledley King would've been the interim manager had he had the qualifications.

Some people need to realise the implications of what they say online, and this was IMO very irresponsible of him.

This really still a thing?

Which is higher???

Head of youth coaching......or head of player development(which includes all things in the youth set up including the coaching)?

If people want to know why Mason got it over Powell just answer that question.

he did the same when the rudiger thing happened, telling any fans who were saying that we need to establish the facts first to "check their privilege". it was like he couldn't wait to tar the fans and the club as a whole as a bunch of horrible racists.

Whether true or not, it's disturbing how many people here want to shut down the debate about this.

I guess our fanbase is no different to others'.

I only want to shut it down as its BS. People will always have their own interpretation of events.

Catching up on various Podcasts and discovered Chris Miller (aka WinydCoys) using the forums of The Extra Inch and Fighting Cock podcasts to push the accusation that Ryan Mason being appointed Interim Head Coach over the more qualified and experienced Chris Powell was an act of "structural racism".

I'm not sure I agree with this assessment. It seems to me that the appointment of Mason was far more likely to be motivated by the fact Mason is a "one of our own" feel good story allowing the fans continuity and, perhaps, a sense of recall to the best of the Pochettino era - helping to smooth the transition from the divisive end of the Mourinho era, while a search for a permanent head coach is carried out.

I also wonder if its not a bit offensive to suggest Chris Powell would take on the assistant Head Coach role if he thought he was being overlooked for the top job because of the colour of his skin.

Maybe my assessment is wrong? But it seems a pretty incendiary accusation to make by a person with a fairly large forum to make it from. Is it a fair one?

What do people think?

Is it racist people assume a white man getting a job is racist?

I'm not sure why you got so many negative ratings for starting a thread where this question was asked or alluded to by other posters. It raised my brows a bit when taking experience alone as a criteria WHEN it was 1st announced but the moment I saw them coaching or on the side lines it became a non event.

Perhaps the thread title should have been 'was passing over Chris Powell for Ryan Mason racist?'

It might have made the thread slightly less pointless. Might. Slightly.

Even then Mason held a higher position at the club than Powell. It makes zero sense

Well, the question would make sense. What wouldn't make sense is any answer that strays from the conclusion of 'no'.

Are you asking me? Or Chris Miller aka WindyCoys?

I’m asking in general, people assume / claim it’s racist if a person or institution is white, I think it’s sad in so many ways this discussion is happening from both sides! It was not dig at you ❤️

Yes, I'm a bit bemused by it too. I've just assumed that people have missed the fact that I was reporting something someone else had stated (going on to say I disagreed).

But I didn't want to start a thread titled "Look what this wanker said about Mason's appointment" because it's unarguable that Black coaches have been overlooked in football - I just didn't think it applied in this specific case but acknowledged others might take a different view.
