So Modric should not be in the middle then or only there if two big players are behind him or we are playing a 4 5 1..

Ultimately Modders will drift about, come deep, get wide, get narrow. Just because he's placed somewhere on a peice of paper it doesn't mean he will play there, if that makes any sense?

Thinking behind mine was that Walker gets encouraged to attack having someone like Parker to fill the gaps a bit better than Thudd would IMO. VdV will drift inside and do what he likes anyway. We even have the option of Bale at FB attacking on the other side. With Walker and Bale we could even have a 3-5-2 or 3-6-1 with them at Wing Back.

Modric should be in the centre for me, and I want us to play 4-3-3 (copying Barca) with the two wide players cutting in so it leaves room for Luka and VdV to both drop deep and act as playmakers.

Any fullback and midfield combination from;

Corluka
Walker
Assou-Ekotto
Bale
Sandro
Palacios
Huddlestone
Modric
Lennon
Van Der Vaart
Pienaar
Kranjcar

is fine with me, we genuinely have so many options to choose from and all it needs is a striker(or two) to finish it off.

Notice the lack of a real leader/vocal presence in that selection there Brett?

Van Der Vaart? Pienaar's South African Captain, too. Plus potentially King/ Dawson/Gallas and Friedel.

I do think Parker would add grit and drive that Jenas, Palacios and Hudd don't, but he is short on quality for Spurs.

4-2-3-1 all day for me.

Walker Kaboul King Bale
Sandro Palacios
Krancjar Modric VdV
Berbatov

I could watch that team all day. Proper overlapping fullbacks that can score.
The middle 2 sitting with Palacios harassing and Sandro sweeping behind him.
The front 4 doing whatever they like in a diamond formation.

I like it. VDV would be on the right and Kranjcar on the left though.

VdV or Pienaar aren't really leaders per say IMO. You need talkers all over the pitch and central midfield players of the ilk of Parker van really drive teams on. Parker could be our Roy Keane to Modric's Scholes.

IMO Parker has as much quality as Wilson and JJ and more grit than THudd, you could also argue he's more consistent than them all.

I just think that we'd be more likely to hold on to leads with a vocal, gritty player like him. I can also envisage his fighting qualities being a catalyst in turning some games round, would Palacios out and Parker in really bother people that much? It seems to me that the emergence of Sandro as a defensive midfielder is why Palacios is looking like being sold soon.

Agreed. But I think Kaboul or Modric can be good captains.

Parker is way better than Wilson and JJ. Parker is an all round midfield player, score, tackle and assist. Wilson is horrible at passing beside that he's not bad... JJ breaks up our play and loses ball too much, and he also spins around in a circle pointlessly and then gives the ball away or back pass when we're on the counter-attack. Tom is unique, therefore he's very important to us - could also be a good captain as well.

I think I get your point why you chose Parker as captain, but I'll still stick with Dawson as captain, or King if fit. But Parker will be my third choice.

The best feature I like about Parker is his ability to lift the squad's mood/confidence/play. When West Ham is being hammered Parker steps up and restores parity even when West Ham doesn't deserve to win/draw most the time but Parker surely does.

I'm more concerned about the presence of Pienaar. I mean he's very much a "Harry signing".

Do you want to tell Brett or should I?

Some one saying VDV is not a leader come on he should be captain next season when king does not play, when he playa he looks like he wants to win

VdV who strops about when he's taken off after knackering himself to the point where he's subbed?

His workrate is good, but he's not really Captain material IMO.
