I have thought about it the last day, and it is clear something in AVB's style of play isn't working.
After a while, I started comparing us to the team that has been best so far this season, our closest rivals Arsenal.

What I have found out, is that we play anti-Arsenal style of football. Anti-City as well, for that matter.

What I mean by that, is that our attacking plans consist of many sideways and support passes, and no directness whatever. And when we eventually come forward to the box, we shoot. Always. The box has become so crowded by our slow build-up play, that we see no other option than to shoot.

Arsenal, or City for that matter, attacks with pace and directness. They surprise their opponents, and catches them off guard. And when they come close to the box, what do they do? THEY DON'T FUCKING SHOOT LONG SHOTS! They insist trying another passing combination, so that it eventually can reach the striker and he can score.

No wonder Soldado isnt't scoring, while Negredo and Giroud seems like scoring for fun. We play anti-football. And I hate it.

Arsenal haven't won anything for 8 years, their supporters are happy now they are at top of the table but before Wenger bought Ozil many Arsenal supporters wanted him gone. As for city they are former champs and added to an already very good squad.

Where as we got rid of our two best players, didn't replace them properly, then bought a whole load of players who are mostly potential but not the finished article.

Come off it, Arsenal have been wank for years. Now we laud them for not shooting until 12 yards out, but for the past 8 years they have been lambasted for exactly that. The famous Arsenal of knocking it around your 18 yard box and never shooting. They go out and spend £43 million on a world class attacking midfielder who sorts out all of their problems, and now they are the tactical geniuses of the league.

The only way we are 'anti-arsenal' is the fact that we are playing shit, and they are playing well.

Ozil is the secret to their success, not the way they play. They've played exactly the same way for the past 8 years and have won fuck all. But of course it's all just a coincidence that the upturn in their fortunes coincided with signing one of the best players in the world....

Oh and by the way, Giroud was shit last year.

This is true, dominating possession is avb's thing. We're never direct which is why we hardly ever score more than 2 goals against teams.

It's all well and good playing it around at the back to draw the opposition our a bit but at some point you need to quicken the pace and actually do something with the ball. We're asking our fullbacks to provide the width when one is a cb playing out of position and the other is not someone that has a consistent end product.

They've been so wank. I'd hate being in the CL every year for the last 16.

And I am sure that their Champions League qualification will echo through the ages as a bright golden age of english football.
The fact that through at least 12 of those 16 years there has only ever been 4 teams challenging for the top 4 places, and for the years that more than 4 teams have challenged for the top 4 places they had to fend off the strong challenege of the mighty tottenham lead by young-pyo lee, tainio, and Jenas.

Arsenal's consistent champions league qualification has been achieved by the poor standard of challengers, not their brilliance. Liverpool being shit for a few years, o'neill being at villa, newcastle getting relegated, and Everton being broke. Even with us improving, all Arsenal had to do was be better than us and liverpool, which has been a pretty fucking easy task.

Keep trying to believe that. It takes a a lot of quality to consistently qualify for the CL regardless of however much you want to try and poo poo their achievements.

Quality in comparison to what? And what achievements? What exactly from the past 8 years would you qualify as an achievement? Because there is no record book in football that has been putting Arsenal's name down for anything. No engravers have got halfway through writing their name on a trophy and sniggered, because no engravers have had to even think about arsenal recently. So please enlighten us all on arsenal's fantastic achievements.

It's easy to look like Usain Bolt when you're running in the special olympics.

Dare I say that if Soldado gets 17 goals from open play this season (his first year in this league) will you be saying he done 'shit'?

If he matched Giroud's one goal in 3 games average from last season whilst costing twice as much? Yes, I would say that is a shit contribution.

I watch a lot of Arsenal due to my roommate being a diehard fan and I would argue that it isn't just Ozil that has made the difference. Their system has been in place for years and the players that are brought in are bought because they will continue to mesh with Wenger's system. Their midfield is ticking and it is a real beauty to watch them play. They are honestly playing like Barca with the way they press, pass and move.

This is where I see us faltering. Last year our system was based off one player. This year we have a whole new squad and no one is sure where they fit. That has a lot to do with the manager, but also the lack of time to create a system in which everyone knows their role.

Hopefully we can figure it out.

Can we stop with all the Arsenal comparisons, please? It makes us the fans look pathetic, when everything we do we try to compare it to our biggest rival. Thank you.

Because they play the style of football I think most Spurs fans would absolutely love. They have struggled in the past to find the right balance, but they seem to have good strength now.

You know what Arsenal NEVER did? Went 390 minutes without scoring from open play.

Now, that was a pretty shit segue, mind you, but that is an absolutely mindblowing statistic. What's worse about that statistic is that the shit we played for a few games during that stretch (yesterday, Hull, Everton) looked almost incapable of scoring. Seriously. Goals are the great decider, the one universal aspect of every game of football, and when a team goes 4 games without scoring from open play, something is seriously wrong.

That would suggest our footballing style is what needs to be called into question. And I'm worried, because we've had the exact same problems throughout AVB's reign; there was just a Welshman named Bale who covered them up. And he's gone now.

our squad is more suitable to playing a real madrid brand of football but avb seems intent on getting them to play like barca. what's the point in having 65% possession when the players you have aren't capable of doing any damage with it?
