Table never lies yada yada... as fantastic as we've been this season, wasting chances in the box hurts us big style... defeats at home could easily have been avoided had we been more ruthless in front of goal. That's why there's a difference between good goals, and important goals... i.e. scoring 4 against stoke was very good, missing one chance against Southampton was important.

We've done well to get where we are this season... even harder staying there.

If the table never lies, then tell me what it tells us.
oooh, oooh......can I tell you, please, please!

*jumps up and down on the spot with his hand up, almost wetting himself

It tells you who has gathered the most points over a set number of games. The team that does that are considered 'the champions' or the 'best' team at collecting points. These points are called points because they are the point of each fixture where a certain number of them are on offer. Win more games get more points. So, in short, the table tells us who the best team (at getting points) is.

*Sits down and waits for Sir Henry to have a fit :p

I've confused myself :nailbiting:

You never wrongly mentioned that whoever finishes first deserves it, or are the best team in the league, so I'm happy with that explanation. No fitting required, this time :)

All that springs to my mind is something about not counting your chickens because there's many a slip between cup and lip.

I have no real idea what that mean as I don't keep chickens and I am very careful about drinking my tea, but I do know that if we have more points than everybody except Leicester we'll finish second., and if we don't then we won't.

We'll all be very upset but it's not like it's the end of the world or anything. If someone had told me last year we'd finish 2nd or 3rd or even 4th, I would have considered them to be totally off their collective fucking rockers

I think we will get a point at Newcastle. I cant imagine them beating us twice as bad as they are.

It's really a pointless discussion as every team will have their own take on how lucky/unlucky they have been with injuries, fixture pile ups, playing teams at the right/wrong time, lack of/failure with transfer activity, referees decisions, etc etc. We will have suffered from many of these factors as will most of our immediate rivals but a comparison is impossible and . basically. pointless. I would, however, say that leicester probably had many of these things in their favour, certainly playing far less games and having a settled team/playing teams at the right time but they still had to do it with what appeared a less talented squad than the rival teams and have only lost 3 games all season( strangely 2 of them to Arsenal). I personally think that we do thoroughly deserve second place and have played the best football but it may not happen. Having said that it is hardly likely going to be a massive statement, either way, whichever of us finishes 2nd as the margin between us will be so small.(possibly goal difference). All i do know is that Spurs fans are delighted by their season whilst Arsenal fans are the complete opposite, so at least we have that knowledge whatever happens next Sunday.

I loved the football we played this season. Our first XI could beat anyone on any day, but the table tells a story over 38 matches. For us, that story was a sluggish start where the starting XI wasn't nailed down (Alli, Dembele more attacking, Son injured) and poor depth over the long haul. I actually think that if we finish 2nd, we will have done it with a bit of good fortune. We seriously lack depth in key positions, and we would have been sunk had Kane, Dembele, Alli, Eriksen or Lamela missed a chunk of the season.

If we slip this weekend to 3rd, then I think that we'll all feel a bit hard done based on how good we could be on our day, but it wouldn't be unjustified given some of the mistakes made over the campaign (lack of signings, too little rotation during Europa groups, disciplinary suspensions, etc.).

Onward and upward. I think next season looks bright. All I hear is how the "big boys" will strengthen, but all I see are a bunch of clubs overloaded with aging, listless talent looking at the prospect of smaller clubs being able to offer stupid money to players.

Its a strange one and I kinda see where you are coming from but over the season there are lots of factors to consider.
We kept under the radar playing well and being noticed for doing so then all of sudden we get close to a title challenge and our games are changed to Monday nights as SKY wanted to show the challengers and an attractive footballing side which then put a lot of pressure on us laying after Leicester. A "fair way" would've been to have these games played together. Now I know thats never going to happen and it sounds like sour grapes but over the season we have played more games then the champions and due to fixtures mostly after them.
This weekend showed how emotions etc can effect games, Leicester on a high smashed a poor Everton where as a heart broken young team struggled.

everyone plays the same amount of games but due to TV, Transfer windows and fixtures not everyone plays at a equal level.

I understand this is how football works but I am making the point that its not always the case of you finish where you deserve

7/8 games ago we could have made a good case for us being the best team in the league this season. Even with rose tinted glasses on we cannot make that case now.

We've had a brilliant season, the only team to really mount a serious challenge to the eventual winners. But Leicester have now got 10 points more than us, and they deserve to be called champions.

No point pretending otherwise. We have a very clever manager who the squad seem to trust and hold in high regard. He will learn from the mistakes we've made in all those draws and I fully expect us to be better next year and smarter. I hate that phrase "game management" but its very apt when it comes to describing what we have lacked in the last 3 games in particular.

Hope we finish on a high, but already looking forward to August

Generally speaking you get what you deserve in football
though not always in life.
In fact if we all got what we deserved most lives would be horrendous.
Well mine would I'm afraid
But 'deserve' is a floppy bendy sort of word.
'Deserve' by virtue of what.
The table is based on results in matches
but not on entertainment value or style
or having the youngest team
the furthest running or nurturing some of our own
which are praiseworthy but not necessarily
deserving in football results terms.

We deserve better. The petulance of two of our better players has cost us massively. Alli and Dembele have escaped criticism from the fans but their behaviour has cost us.

Cost us what?

Even if Alli and Dembele hadn't been suspended, even if we'd have won the games they've missed, we wouldn't have won the league nor been any higher in the league than we are right now.

The last game we had them both on the field we were 2nd, right now we're 2nd, a point at Newcastle and we'll finish 2nd and that's where we'll deserve to be.

As stupid as the two incidents were, neither have cost us the league or anything as it stands.
