BBC Live Text
16:59 GOAL - West Brom 3-3 Tottenham - Christian Eriksen (90 mins)
Wow what a fightback! Christian Eriksen, excellent for Spurs in their big win against Sunderland on Monday, rescues a hugely unlikely point for Tottenham as he cuts inside and smashes a drive into the net. Tim Sherwood cranes his neck to watch it go in before spinning round and punching the air with delight.
16:50 Sub: Townsend for Rose
16:43 Sub: Sigurdsson for Chadli
16:35 GOAL - West Brom 3-2 Tottenham - Harry Kane
Game on at the Hawthorns as Tottenham pull another goal back! Aaron Lennon curls the ball towards the far post where Harry Kane gets up to head in his second in as many games.
Sub: Change at half-time - Fryers for Chiriches.
HALF-TIME - West Brom 3-1 Tottenham
15:41 GOAL - West Brom 3-1 Tottenham - Jonas Olsson OG (34 mins)
What a game at The Hawthorns as Tottenham are gifted a glimmer of hope. Aaron Lennon's ball along the floor inside the area hits Jonas Olsson's outstretched leg and loops into his own net.
15 :38 GOAL - West Brom 3-0 Tottenham - Stephane Sessegnon (31 mins)
Atrocious defending from Tottenham as West Brom do indeed go further ahead. This time, a hopeful punt upfield is headed inexplicably backwards by Younes Kaboul, Stephane Sessegnon is on it like a flash and races goalwards. He has Vlad Chiriches for company but holds him off before slotting into the net.
15: 23 MISSED PENALTY - West Brom 2-0 Tottenham
Oh dear! Tottenham will struggle to have a better chance all game to score as Emmanuel Adebayor is tasked with the penalty taking responsibility. His effort is weak, though and Ben Foster saves with ease.
15:11 GOAL - West Brom 2-0 Tottenham - Chris Brunt (4 mins)
What scenes! West Brom double their lead as Steven Reid pings in a cross, a Tottenham defender half-heartedly heads the ball up in the air but succeeds in only setting it up perfectly for Chris Brunt, who volleys in. Terrible start by Tottenham.
15:08 GOAL - West Brom 1-0 Tottenham - Matej Vydra (1 min)
Perfect start for the Baggies as they take the lead with their first attack. Morgan Amalfitano crosses low, Hugo Lloris gets a hand to it but succeeds in only palming the ball to Matej Vydra, who gleefully finishes. Tim Sherwood's gilet is back but is in danger of being furiously flung once again after this start.

West Brom and Tottenham will both be looking to build upon Premier League wins last time out when they meet on Saturday.

The Baggies took a significant step towards top-flight survival for a fourth season in succession when they triumphed 1-0 away to relegation rivals Norwich last weekend.

That victory, secured by Morgan Amalfitano's well-taken first-half strike, put a five-point cushion between Albion and the drop zone - and Pepe Mel's side also have a game in hand on four of the clubs around them in the table.

However, Mel is yet to claim a three-point haul at The Hawthorns since taking the reins a little over three months ago. Five of his six home games have ended in score draws - most recently against Cardiff, who snatched a 3-3 draw in stoppage time - with the other a 3-0 defeat by Manchester United.

Albion's opponents on Saturday, Tottenham, thrashed Sunderland 5-1 on Monday Night Football, moving them back into sixth spot above United in the race for a Europa League third qualifying round berth.

A higher finish is not beyond Spurs, but defeats without scoring in their last three league away games - at Norwich, Chelsea and Liverpool - have seriously dented their ambitions.

Tim Sherwood is likely to have only five games remaining at the helm but will have been hugely encouraged by his team's stylish display against the Black Cats, in which Christian Eriksen was instrumental.

The Boxing Day meeting between the two clubs ended in a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane, with Jonas Olsson cancelling out Eriksen's opener within three first-half minutes. Gareth Bale scored the only goal in last season's corresponding fixture in February, after Goran Popov was sent off for the hosts.

Tottenham

Tottenham will still be without six first-team regulars for at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

Roberto Soldado has returned to training following a hamstring issue but will not be fit to travel, while midfield pair Mousa Dembele (hip) and Etienne Capoue (foot) are also missing.

Kyle Walker (pelvis) remains sidelined alongside Erik Lamela (back) and Jan Vertonghen (ankle).
West Brom
West Brom head coach Pepe Mel's hopes of fielding an unchanged side for the first time hinge on midfielder James Morrison's fitness.

The Scot is a doubt due to an ankle problem and may be replaced by fit-again captain Chris Brunt, who is back after ligament trouble.

Claudio Yacob (hamstring) is fully fit again and Mel's only other injury is to Zoltan Gera, who will miss most of the remainder of the season with a hamstring problem.

West Brom midfielder James Morrison is a doubt for Saturday's clash with Tottenham because of an ankle problem.

Chris Brunt is available after ligament trouble and Claudio Yacob has overcome a hamstring injury.

Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood is expected to select from the same squad that was on duty for Monday's win over Sunderland.

Roberto Soldado, Mousa Dembele and Etienne Capoue are among those who remain on the sidelines through injury.

Both of these clubs decided a managerial change was necessary earlier in the season and the events of the past week suggest both might be making new appointments again in the summer.

A win in this match would be a huge step closer to survival for West Brom, while a Spurs victory would maintain hopes of European qualification and perhaps even a place in the Champions League.

After Tottenham's defeat at Chelsea, Tim Sherwood said they were "miles away" from earning that and it seems that, even if that unlikely scenario was to happen, he won't be around to enjoy it.

They begin this weekend five points off fourth place, just as they were when they relieved Andre Villas Boas of his duties.

The events and reports about Sherwood's future leading up to Monday's win over Sunderland were extraordinary. The head coach conducted himself well, and will hope all the speculation doesn't have an adverse effect for the remaining five matches.

It's worth pointing out that they are only two points worse off than at this stage last season, when Gareth Bale inspired their top-five finish.

I was at The Hawthorns two weeks ago to witness the incredible 3-3 draw with Cardiff. I thought the 94th-minute equaliser the Baggies conceded might have been a killer, which is why last week's win at Norwich was absolutely crucial.

Afterwards, though, Pepe Mel hinted he wasn't sure if he would be in charge next season. The Spaniard has found it difficult succeeding a popular figure in Steve Clarke who, it shouldn't be forgotten, lead the Baggies to eighth last season.

It was just the sixth win all season for West Brom and only their third in 22 matches. They've been difficult to beat at home, only Manchester United have been victorious in the last eight matches, but they have drawn six of them.

Neither club or manager are sure what next season will bring but their focus has to be short term at the moment and three points in this one would take them a step closer to their respective targets.

Head-to-head

  • Spurs are unbeaten in their last eight league games against West Brom (W4, D4).
  • The Baggies have only won two of 15 Premier League matches against Tottenham.

West Bromwich Albion
  • Against Norwich, West Brom kept their first clean sheet in 12 league matches.
  • It was only their third league win since 2 November.
  • West Brom have drawn five of their six Premier League home games under Pepe Mel, losing the other. Four of those games ended 1-1.
  • A league-high 11 of West Brom's goals have been scored by substitutes this season, including five of their last 10 goals.

Tottenham
  • Emmanuel Adebayor has scored 10 Premier League goals since Tim Sherwood took charge. Only Daniel Sturridge (11) has scored more in that time.
  • Spurs have only two points fewer (59 points from 33 matches) than they had last season, which was a club record total of 61 (alongside the 2009-10 season).
  • Tottenham have made more errors leading to goals (18) than any other team in the top flight this season.
  • Christian Eriksen has scored three goals and assisted another three in his last three top-flight appearances. Five of his six league goals this season have come at White Hart Lane.
  • Spurs have kept just one clean sheet in their last seven league matches and have a goal difference this season of zero.
  • They remain one of only two teams not to lose a Premier League game from a winning position this season, along with Manchester United.
  • This will be just the seventh time that they have played a league game on a Saturday this season - every other team have already played at least 12 league matches on a Saturday in 2013-14.

Bit too much optimism creeping back up after our win against Sunderland, so I'm going to go for a 1-0 defeat, and for Eriksen to lose a leg.

Tim will probably go with the same line up so I think we'll be in for plenty of goals. Cardiff scored three there the other week as well.

I'll go 3-2 Spurs.

We'll probably draw- Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea drew there. Although United did win 0-3 so you never know.

West Brom do like a draw. More home draws than anyone else at home in the PL so far, and 5 of the last 6 home games all draws.

What would be nice is if this thread doesn't descend into a fuckoffsherwoodyou**** fest the minute the teams are announced or as events during the game unfold.

Lets see if we can practise some of the restraint we're going to need for whoever is in charge next season.

15:07? Is that just to piss off @SpursManChris
Yeah, the club must've heard about my complaints. Hey I'm just glad we're on a Saturday for once, I don't care what time the kickoff is, that was never my complaint in my thread, even though 3pm is a nice bonus for some people I'm sure. Remembering that I'm in Australia, so it hardly affects me.
