in this day and age, once you've got a significantly upgraded stadium, that you will grow into it and become all that it implies is virtually a given.

... just ask darlington.

That and all the examples of clubs moving in to Olympic/Athletics Stadiums and flourishing. It was certainly a turning point in Spanish football when Espanyol began their dominance of the domestic scene not long after moving in to the stadium used for Barca 92 ( of which they have already moved out of! )

Galatasary, Bayern Munich, Juventus have all suffered playing in these huge soulless bowls, so much so that they all decided to move out. AEK and Panathiniakos are dominating European Football thanks to their huge athletics stadium with far too many seats for their need.

I'm sure West Ham will be different though. Their history, support and success far outstrips these clubs doesn't it?

They're still over 100m in debt. Not to mention they will be leasing too. They won't be making huge amounts like Arsenal

Arsenal are making huge profits yet still paying off all their debts, they were very fortunate to have a great team to start with and Wenger being canny with the buys. It's going to take many many years for West Ham to become good I reckon. They may attract big stars but I can't see them breaking even for quite a while

Not to mention competing with the likes of Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, United and City. I'm more concerned about staying on par with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea than them wankers from East London

They are one of the only clubs I know that have to advertise tickets for sale on the radio. They can't fill the stadium they have right now! they will never fill the olympic stadium, its going to be a truly soulless place.

New fans will coem. The stadium is easy to get to from the Square mile and there will be corporates queing up to get tickets, they wont be real fans, but they will bring in the cash.

Arsenal are the go to team for Corporate outings due to the type of football that gets played there and the lure of the CL. In reality there is no way that West Ham are going to drag away a huge slice of this Corporate revenue, especially when they do not have Champions League football and are awful to watch on a weekly basis (we are the biggest threat to Arsenal in this respect as a new stadium and a few years finishing above them could draw away business). So that will leave them needing to flog the low price tickets under the line that it will provide a day out for the family. Cheap football tickets, proximity to a shopping centre, easy access. That is what they are now pinning their hope on, and if they are successful they will drive Orient out of business. I don't think people are being sensible saying that they will become a footballing super power, as they just don't offer the package to drive up commercial revenues enough to take them to that level.

The whole Olympic Stadium thing is hilarious though, as the Dildo Brothers bought West Ham with the aim of quickly buying the Olympic stadium using the public purse to keep costs low and then using it as the driving force behind selling the club on to a billionaire in order to turn a quick and substantial profit, but it has totally back fired. We embroiled them in a legal battle stopping them being able to buy the stadium at a low cost, they were relegated meaning that players haven't wanted to go there and that they had to bring in Allardyce as a quick fix, so now the football they play is dire. So they have been backed into the corner of trying to get rid of West Ham's debt, run them sustainably and find a way of making the OS work for them.

Was there a story in last night's Standard about London possibly being asked to stand in for Rio because there is a high likelihood that they will not be ready for 2016?

Why are we still talking about the olympic stadium this year when we're not going there anymore? I don't get why it's not locked

From BBC Gossip
West Ham will offer £100 season tickets when they move into the Olympic Stadium. Daily Express

I think they may have to go this low to entice the faithful across... and keep the attendances up after the fans see the view from their seats

In a way, it's a shame that demand for NWHL season tickets won't be as low as the Olympic site. £100 season tickets are a great way to get young fans into the ground

and presumably why barry hearn was so annoyed with west ham and them taking away match day income and casual fans from orient when he was owner.
