Haven't we?

Who is going to pick this team up out there on the pitch when things aren't going great?

Have we got anyone? Genuine question

Still think that of all the sales we've made in recent years, VDV was the most retarded of them all.

Harry built a team around getting him and Luka on the ball as much as possible. Levy saw a couple of quid and let go of our most influential player of the last 3/4 years.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

not sure its about leaders and talismen but about quality and having brains to get you out of a situation. VDV was just a great player, same with bale but they had that extra bit of quality to get you out of a hole and lift the team.

We bought a couple of players like that in Eriksen and Lamela but in true spurs tradition we decide to not bother playing them.

Good question.

I suppose Jan is the closest we have to a proper leader. Unfortunately, he appeared disillusioned playing at LB before his injury and one hopes that the arrival of a new manager will restore faith in our club. Would make him our captain in a heartbeat.

I think Jan is a magnificent player but I get the feeling that Jan's priority is...Jan. Sulking at playing LB doesn't make me think he's a team player.

Shame Sandro's English isn't a wee bit better as I think he'd be a great motivational captain.

It's gotta be Verts or Lloris. I don't get how Walker got picked as skipper last night when we have the French national captain in the side.

Yes - I can see your point. That said, he was a very successful captain at Ajax.

Sandro and Lloris. We don't, and haven't for many years, had more than a couple of 'roll your sleeves up' types.

King retired, Parker was sold. Vertonghen and Lloris are looking for the nearest exit, mark my words. Closest we have now to a leader is Dawson, and as much of a heart on his sleeve lad he is, he may be a bit too nice.

Too many write Dawson off because of his performances in a position that was, frankly, impossible to cater to - i genuinely don't see how any of our defenders could've played in that role the way it was and not be under a ridiculous amount of pressure. Take the weight of impossible expectation off of his shoulders, and remove the necessity to be aware of wingers breaking into the spaces our makeshift full backs were leaving and i expect that he will fall back into his natural game - if there was one player we could've used last night it was him to nullify that route one long ball they found so successful too.

Other than him, Lloris i feel is too quiet generally, he doesn't appear to do much commanding of his area. I would've said maybe Jan but the last few weeks has made me wonder if he is one of those players who's superb when we're on the up and up but his shoulders drop after a few bad results. Sandro might make a good motivator but too many see him as the joker of the pack and it's very hard to be both someone people will listen to and the comedian who keeps spirits up. Kaboul, maybe, but until he's fully fit again (IF he manages to get back to full fitness, as it does seem to be taking some time) he's a bit of an unknown quantity. None of the rest of the squad is either captain material or have been their long enough for us to make a call on it - it's a really strange situation, considering we've usually had at least two proper captainy shaped players on board for a few seasons until this one.

I'd stick with Dawson - when he's back in the side and we start playing a defensive back four that really is a back four and not two centre halves and two vaguely involved full backs, and the midfield find some kind of rhythm and stop giving it away so much, then he can do a captains job commanding troops. I feel the point of a captain is to direct tactics to suit the state of play, but that is less and less the captains job for a lot of teams now and they are simply motivators who have to do whatever the man in the dugout tells him to.

My captain would be Jan. No nonsense.

When he got scratched by that twat bag Torres he just stared him down. Bet the guy is mental.

Unfortunately I think Jan will be on the first plane to Barcelona come the summer

Sandy as captain for me, I think it would take his game to a whole new level.
