What do we think of Poch?

Probably a small and inconsequential observation, but during our game against West Brom there was a break in the game and a couple of our players went over to the dugout to get some water. The camera focused on Pochettino and showed him clenching both his fists and basically gesturing in a "come on let's finish them" sort of way.

I didn't mind AVB, but every time he got within earshot of a player he was giving them instructions. I think giving players visual encouragement and showing some passion shows belief in the players and says more than a thousand words.

I hate micro-management, and it was good to see some simple expressive energy instead. Sounds daft but it made me warm to Pochettino a lot.
That's a pretty laughable opinion. It's sheer ignorance. A pure fans view.

A manager acting like a fan is likely to have no influence on a game. What happens when a fan owns a club? We have some idea from Mark Goldberg's stint at Palace.

It's the same attitude of wanting players to "play for the shirt" or similar twaddle.

I'd like some of the posters on here to spend a day at a football club, or be in a dressing room, because I guarantee they would genuinely be shocked at their naivete. In common parlance, it would be a wake-up call.

We are now starting to look much better as a team, but are well off a top 4 slot in terms of results and consistency but despite that, are in touching distance. If our performances keep improving throughout the year, who knows what might happen?!

Err...........no, we're not!

In terms of results and consistency, we're right up there on current form - Crystal Palace away being the only blip over the past two months.

To the extent that we don't look like making top four, it's that our overall performances are still too often unconvincing and rely on moments of individual magic.

Let's take a month to review this. Say, this month, after Arse, Liverpool and Wham.

Reasonable return of points. Massively overrated on tactics, creativity, defensive organisation and influence by our fan base.

It goes without saying that our form could take a turn for the worse. But Khilari and I weren't trying to predict the future. We were discussing our form as it stands.

He has over-performed any reasonable expectations regarding results, plays a very watchable brand of footy when it clicks, and has brought on some young players. I didn't think it was a foregone conclusion that we'd make the top 6 but he appears to be giving us every chance of that, and more.

The 18 month timescale others have mentioned for a more thorough judgement isn't arbitrary - the parallels with Ramos could emerge with a cup final and trying hard to maintain the hunger for the remainder of the season. Southampton didn't really race to the finish line under him and a poor run in will set him up for a tough start next season. Every indication so far is that he will avoid that, but we'll have to wait for it to unfold. His 5 year deal suggests Levy may steel himself against a rough patch, but few would have predicted Ramos's downfall just after we won the league cup too.

So far so good, but early days. I certainly prefer Poch's team to AVBs because without Bale that season we would never have finished where we did. Bale saved us too many times and the players were not pulling their weight. I remember in an article where bale said "He was tired of always saving us".

This season we don't rely heavily on one player and Poch has us playing as a team. You can see the players are starting to believe in his philosophy of football as well and signs of what he was doing at Southampton, ie: closing down players quickly. Also our fitness level has seriously improved especially in the last 20mins.

What scared me was the fact that taking on the job as Spurs manager is a poisonous chalice because a lot of work needed to be done getting rid of the weak links. Poch has done this and has found his best 11 which AVB and TS struggled to do.

I really have to disagree strongly with this. We've scored more late winners and picked up more wins in the tail end of games this season, that it's gotten to be that I'm almost expecting 3 points when we're still drawing a game at 80 minutes.

To be fair even when it gets to 89 mins... I'm like, where's Eriksen?!

I likey.

To me things couldn't really be going better. I think for many of us the way we are playing as a team and for the team is really all we want. I think it was well quoted on here that it will be after Christmas that we will see Pochettino's style coming forward. I think fitness has been a big part on this too. I believe that the reason the players especially the youngers respect poch is that they can see the improvement in their own game. Eriksen would be a good example, he was looking a bit laboured in the first couple of games, but early in the season I recall him pressing at the front getting the ball and assisting or scoring I can't remember which. But this action reinforced seems to just be a natural part of his game now. Especially when watching in the flesh, you can see the added tenacity agression, fitness, awareness and look at what he's doing! Eriksen didn't get more skilful or better overnight, but he has improved his thought and mentality and the way he goes about his business.

I think by this time next season @thinktank is gonna be pulling quote after quote of what he has said and will be rubbing our noses in it, and fair play if that's the case we will be all happy as a kid with sweets.

I agree with most of all the good stuff written about Poch on here.

One thing to add....the way he conducts himself is pure CLASS.....he is a credit to our club.

I like him. I like him a lot. And I admittedly preferred DeBoer last summer. The progression I've seen over the course of the season is tremendous. It's early of course we'll see how things turn out this season but we're playing in a CUP FINAL next month and 3 points off top 4. Had I told any of u we'd be in this current position last April who would've believed it? Or who wouldnt have been ecstatic at the thought? And he's doing it without having brought in a single one of "his guys" yet. I think he fits us well as he doesn't expect us us to bring in 7 of "his guys" I think he'd be quite happy with 2-3 this summer which is realistic unlike a couple of former managers. The rest he can guide to fit his system or promote from within. He seems to have the faith of the Vertonghen's and Lloris' (captain and vice imo don't care which is which) . The style of play is much more fun to watch the amount of sideways and back passes has decreased immensely.

There will be a spell of bad form that hasn't hit yet it happens to everyone. At this point my worry isn't with Poch its with Levy's patience to let him build the team and academy thru the bad spells. For the first time in a while I believe our manager can build something. Whereas the last few years especially I just hoped the manager could make something happen.

Lastly, doesn't he just seem like a cool fucking guy? insert the vine of him laughing off JMo on the sideline here :)

Perfect manager for us and thought that from day one. Times are going to be tough over the next 5 years, so a manager willing to bring through the academy players is vital.

The style of play is beginning to change and it's obvious his ideas and hard work with the players is showing. It won't always be pretty as player style is implemented, but at least the players he picks look like they give a shit about our famous club, which couldn't he said very often last season.
