No, I just prefer EL.

It's a more exciting competition and the games are much more enjoyable to attend because there's a better calibre of fan that goes to them.

Don't believe the hype - 95% of CL games are dull as fuck

You'd really rather watch us play FC Fukin Carrierbag than FC Barcelona?

Crack is whack dude.

These two are just factually incorrect. The monetary difference between CL and EL is absolutely massive, and will certainly not be used up in bonuses. As for the second, the home atmosphere against Inter Milan is possibly the best I've ever seen at the Lane.

The money now available in the Premier League alone means that teams are not as financially dependant on the CL as in previous years

For me it's the team lining up against the biggest clubs in Europe and playing for stakes. Isn't this the whole point? The money is nice for the club but it doesn't help me pay down my credit card or anything. Just give me a game like the tonking we gave the trophy holders at the Lane or the late winner against Meelan. I'm still feasting on those moments. Making that AC Milan tv presenter cry and pound the floor was good stuff, too. (I've completely erased Crouch against Real Madrid, of course. Never happened.)

There are obviously many perks, but fulfilling ambitions for the players at the club is IMO the most important benefit from partaking in the competition. Step 1 in building a stronger club for the future is keeping your best players simultaneously, allowing them to build a strong foundation together for the team to be built upon. CL goes a very long way to achieving this in modern football.

We would at least be made to look silly by the likes of Bayern and Barcelona for once, rather than Basel and Benfica...

:barefoot:
If the improvement under MoPo continues the way it has from last season to this, allied with our performances against the likes of City and Manure, also arse even though both games ended in draws, and especially Fiorentina who were riding high in Seria A at the time, then I honestly believe we can turn anybody over on our day.
To back that statement up I'd say look at our amazing goal difference stats, they don't look like that because we're pussies you know. A few more sensible acquisitions to give us more strength off the bench and we're good to go - and a much better team than the time we got to the quarters under 'Arry....

Theres loads of crap sides like Astana and Bate Bor in the CL too.

My point was that all the sides are the same level as EL clubs, apart from the big 4/5 (Madrid, Barca, Bayern, Athletico, Dortmund).

So we'll beat most teams until we get hammered by one of the elite as soon as we draw them in the knock-out. Just like 2010/11 really.

A bit off topic. But if we qualified for the group stages of the CL and subsequently came 3rd in our group, how many would be happy for us to then go and play in the EL? I for one have always criticised UEFA for allowing this so I would rather we didn't.

The first time we qualified it was mostly just to see the elite teams at white Hart lane on European nights. This time it'll be to really test ourselves and show the world how strong this team is.

I agree dropping into the EL isn't fair, but I would still like us to try and win it. Any european cup is better than none (Are you listening woolwich).
Besides it was good enough for chelscum. To a certain extent I agree with @Nigel Spinal, CL involves more money and prestige but EL, for me I think is the tougher of the 2 to win because of the CL drop outs more travelling and games.

On top of that, the winner of one plays the winner of the other, don't they (Super Cup?)

Yeah so Sevilla vs who ever wins the champs league. I can't understand why any one would prefer Ropey league vs Champs league.

Shame its not on ITV anymore as that was one of the big perks, getting to watch it on tv on a night when there is generally nothing on rather than having the mrs want to watch something on BBC and hogging the tv.

It will be interesting to see what difference this makes to how Poch views the squad. I can't imagine us playing a weakened team against Barca or Real so balancing the league and Europe should mean we beef up some of the squad. I think there have already been rumoured targets and a potential pre contract.

Should be allowed multiple options here. Playing teams like Real, Barca, Inter Milan and fulfilling our players ambitions of playing at the top level are joint top of my list.

Although Inter are hardly heavyweights these days. Poor choice of team.

Old score to settle for me, I want us back at Madrid and this time not have someone sent off after 3 seconds and no-one puking in the tunnel and have a better account of ourselves.

For me there are two types of great player. There's the type with the outstanding ability such as Maradonna and Cristiano Ronaldo then those who are just consistently excellent over a long period like Giggs.

Naturally these two types do mix together as C Ronaldo does both.

But it is the first type that truly stands out at the big matches against the best.

We saw ourselves get outclassed against Real Madrid in the CL quarter finals all those years ago but we got to see how Bale was good enough to outperform world class opposition.

Can't wait to see the likes of Kane and Alli trying to get to that top level and seeing how we fare against Europe's best.
