No, I just prefer EL.

It's a more exciting competition and the games are much more enjoyable to attend because there's a better calibre of fan that goes to them.

Don't believe the hype - 95% of CL games are dull as fuck

They're only dull when we're not in them. Remember our record goals scored in the group stage for example.

A bit off topic. But if we qualified for the group stages of the CL and subsequently came 3rd in our group, how many would be happy for us to then go and play in the EL? I for one have always criticised UEFA for allowing this so I would rather we didn't.

Good shout.

The Europa League is only good for 4 things:

1. Providing a stepping stone between mediocre PL and CL. This is both financially and in terms of playing.
2. Linked into the above...it gives good oppurtunity for player progression. Harry Kane would probably be still coming off the bench if not for his performances in EL in 2014.
3. It makes Thursdays a bit more palatable.
4. Winning it.

Everything else is a hassle. But because of points 1 & 2 it's still marginally better to be in it than to not have it at all.

Therefore, to go from Group Stages of CL into EL is a bit of a waste of time, unless you want your squad players and youth get a bit of experience. Even so, that's what the loan system and League Cup are for.

Yeah so Sevilla vs who ever wins the champs league. I can't understand why any one would prefer Ropey league vs Champs league.

Shame its not on ITV anymore as that was one of the big perks, getting to watch it on tv on a night when there is generally nothing on rather than having the mrs want to watch something on BBC and hogging the tv.

It will be interesting to see what difference this makes to how Poch views the squad. I can't imagine us playing a weakened team against Barca or Real so balancing the league and Europe should mean we beef up some of the squad. I think there have already been rumoured targets and a potential pre contract.

Didn't say I prefer the europa lge. What I do remember was not being able to sleep when I was a youngen back in '84 because of all the celebrations around the ground after we won that supposed 'ropey' cup.
So does this mean you wouldn't celebrate winning the europa lge? Would you prefer to win the diminished fa cup or whatever the other one's called now?
Let's face it, any cup at this moment in time would be great, especially the prem or champs lge (y)

The competitions were very different in 84 because it was only cup winners and teams in the 2-4 positions playing. Now that would almost be the champions league. I was referring more to Nigel's comment which you said you were agreeing with in part.

I would celebrate but it is now the also rans trophy and doesn't have the same significance of the old tournament. I do agree though any tournament win now would be great for this squad. As others have said in 50 years time people won't judge the squad on top 4 finishes but will look at trophies.

i) Sense of Achievement and feel good factor;
ii) Sense of belonging among a group of Elite clubs
iii) A burning ambition to win the competition & bring the glory back to the club

Other: Being in it to win it.

Yeah, I know, cue the Optimistic ratings. I'm not saying we will win it. Just that Poch doesn't do taking part as the most important thing. If he's in it he'll want to win it - understand that and you understand Poch and the attitude he is instilling into our players.

We might not win it next season, we might never win it - but you can bet your bottom dollar that Poch will be working his little goolies off to win it and he will have the players having the same attitude.

Theres loads of crap sides like Astana and Bate Bor in the CL too.

My point was that all the sides are the same level as EL clubs, apart from the big 4/5 (Madrid, Barca, Bayern, Athletico, Dortmund).

So we'll beat most teams until we get hammered by one of the elite as soon as we draw them in the knock-out. Just like 2010/11 really.

well, shit

I was looking forward to it but now I think Ill just skip next season.

Don't be hard on them - they are just some Gooners looking for the thread to celebrate their fourth place trophy who wandered onto the wrong forum. (y)

I haven't voted so wasn't me. But getting the extra revenue will also link in with getting the better players IMO. If we aren't in cl then we can't offer better wages until we get the new stadium.

I would say playing (and beating) some of the top sides in Europe will be the best about it!

Best thing? I get to hang another CL Pendant on the wall. Something I seriously didn't see happening again with Redknapps sacking for a very very long time and certainly not this season. Gonna be awesome :)

glory nights, innit?

I mean, there are some games that you just walk away from with pride. not just a great performance ... but the feeling that Tottenham Hotspur have just put some behemoth to the sword, and that it's totally just. those nights had become quite rare, as I saw it. When we beat Chelsea* at the Lane for the first time in yonks, you could feel it then. What happened at Old Trafford** a couple weeks back, that'd be one. but in that one CL campaign, we had, what, three nights of genuine 'take-that-you-twunts-we-are-tottenham-hotspur' glory.

short of lifting a trophy, there's nothing better than Spurs turning heads by toppling a giant. the champions league is a brilliant stage.

*not that they're genuine giants, of course; but you know what I mean.

**not that United aren't a bit pants at the moment; but you know what I mean.

To test this theory that playing Wednesday and Saturday is much better for ones health than Thursday and Sunday.

Did not vote for it myself. However, finance is crucial if we are to achieve our aim of world domination! City and Chelscum have shown that however shite you were money can buy success.
