Canny post from a Liverpool supporter on RAWK:

I think with Kane he's exceptional at things that aren't glamorous, like decision making, anticipation, not panicking or being rash, ruthlessly efficient finishing, shielding the ball from defenders, etc.

RvP was far more pleasing on the eye but I don't think he was as effective, and I say this as someone who really rates RvP despite the fact he played for them. Plus, of course, the fact that RvP was really injury prone, unlike Kane.

I'd pick Kane above RvP. Probably the only centre forwards (so not including wide forwards like Ronaldo) in the PL era I'd pick ahead of Kane would be Henry and Suarez. Not sure about Shearer as the league was so so shit when he was banging in 30 a season. Like, really shit.

We are a big club with a glorious history, are we as big as UTD, Pool and Arse, no. But we are on par with City and the Chavs regardless of what they have achieved the last few years.
City? Really??!!

Before they were bought with oil money, they were just relegation candidates, always under the dark shadows of their neighbours worse than us under the scums!

When I was young, I once had a pull-over in my wardrobe I did not know where it came from. It had a huge man city logo on it. I was so ashame of even wanna wear it even as a Spurs fan. I wouldn't have mind if it was man United as they were so good then. But Man city? Come on man city??? Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday were even better! Fuck even I will wear it if it was Coventry for Darren Huckerby sake!

The thread on Redcafe is about being a big club now and being a big draw, it's not really about history.

There's a voice of reason in that thread:

Not an elite club but are a big club trying to become an elite club.

Have a good history too, as said above in the same bracket as Everton and Aston Villa as in brilliant in their hay day but that was a long time ago.

Amount of shit they get too because the clickbait media use them as easy target, one player has a good game and it's 'whens he off to Real' sold 2 players to them, like us with Beckham and Ronaldo.

Admire what they do and the only reason they get hate on hear is because of Glaston, to be fair some of the stuff spouted on here by our fans is ridiculous, after the Southampton game fans saying 'crisis', far from it, people need to get real we will never dominate like we did under Sir AF

Some people can't handle that and they are the ones who started following football because we were successful, that's why alot more fans on here seem to say 'I hate football' alot more than when we dominated, funny that, because were not winning everything you don't like it, like children really.

Change title to Glaston half talks some guff

From a Swansea forum

I think Carlos will attack. Let's be positive, 4-2 Spurs.

The players have had the first win in ages and they need to try and keep that momentum, however small, going into the Spurs game.

We could earn a really lucky point like we did up in Wembley and that could be crucial.

I'd like to see us get in their faces as Palace did with Man City. Don't show them respect. Toe to toe with them. Rough them up a bit.

I hate being ultra defensive but the performance like we had at Wembley a few months back would do.

We are due a win over one of the top 6

Passionate, disciplined, organised, error free, backs to the wall 0-0 please.

Reality check suggests 0-3

I think a lot of the recent hate we get from other Clubs is simply down to a touch of jealously, pure and simple.

We'll never get respect from some quarters.

But it boils down to us punching above our weight and competing with the Clubs that vastly outspend us. That's what really sticks with them. All the while playing great football, with a core group of young English players and a very humble and likeable manager.

Those United fans know we play better football and have spent far less money on acquiring players, and even more significantly much less on wages.

Now I know they're currently ahead of us in the league but what gets them is precisely that, and the question that no one wants to ask is....what does it say about them?

Not a fucking a lot in truth.

That's why Bellamy's recent comments were so refreshing, someone acknowledging how far we've come when you consider the financial muscle of the Clubs we're competing with, and even out performing.

Hmm I think that's true for many but not all. It kinda depends on what you care about as a fan. A lot of rival fans would see that bit I bolded and laugh asking "what have you won with all that talent?". Many still see us as a threat but one that will just get points off them rather than beat them in finals etc.

Size of club is such a boring subject. Personally I wouldn't want to be as big as united. Imagine the fans experience of old Trafford?! Be like being at Wembley permantly.

Aye, City were total no-marks when I was a kid. Second division journeymen who somehow always managed to get a result against us.

Altho to be fair so were Chelsea, back when the Leyland DAF Cup was something to shout about

Well that's what most would say, but the point is mate we will win things if we keep going the way we're going.

This is not a purple patch, Pochettino has changed our DNA. I think it's pretty evident to most that we've dramatically improved.

Providing we keep it going, we will start to win things, and I think many recognise this as we're competing at a new level for us.

Ffs, even being in a a top 4 race not so long ago was a big thing for us.

Fuck knows what opposition fans will say when we do start winning things.

I'm not sure it's completely jealousy as much as the social and media climate, and who equal 'fans' nowadays. As you say, Bellamy was an exception, not the rule. What does that say about the state of the football media and their parroting of the same lines?

"It boils down to us punching above our weight and competing with the Clubs that vastly outspend us. That's what really sticks"

I don't think most people see it like that. I really think that the media has brainwashed people into thinking spending money is what football is about. And the very fact that we dont/cant spend money is seen as the sign of a small-time club. And the fact we argue against that is seen as subject of ridicule, particularly without winning anything of note to back it up.

It's the same reason Arsenal fans are having such a huge meltdown, they see money not being spent and it drives them nuts. And why Liverpool are considered title contenders just by dropping 75m on a player even tho they'll probably win nothing again.

See how absolutely no one is digging City out for buying the league, everyone just sits there, saying how wonderful they are. Even though they're funded by a corrupt regime from a country with terrible human rights records who are sticking two fingers up at FFP by very obviously subverting the rules of football. The Chelsea it's OK to like, for some reason.

Why aren't the voices about the mass loans louder, that sees both City and Chelsea hoover up the youth of football and loan them all out, killing careers and top-loading clubs? No one cares, instead the cream of Chelsea's youth team, most of whom will never play for the club, are lauded for their success for England as if they're in any way Chelsea's.

So yeah, I think it's money, mainly. Football, objectively, is fucking shit nowadays. It really is - the support, the coverage, the fans, the pundits. It's seemingly invented just to rile me up. I'm only in it for Spurs.

My view aswell. For now I remain quietly confident.

The only thing I'll say is that part of the reason people aren't digging City out is that their spending isn't dramatically different to that of many of their rivals.

Utd have been spending just as much of not more than City since Fergie left, Chelsea too have historically spent huge sums on players and Liverpool spent 30 plus million on Salah, 70 on Keita and 75 on Virgil Van Djik.

It was also no different with Utd under Fergie, they always dramatically outspent their rivals and picked off the best players of the clubs around them.

Essentially football has been this way most of the time. I agree it sucks.
