The uncomfortable truth is that every club has moronic, repulsive fans. Every club also has perfectly decent people who support them but we have the ability to filter out these facts when it suits our agenda.

Yup. I don't think they have more or less. There's more incidents because we have the attatchment to a race of people. I bet if it was West Ham who were known as yids then you would hear our fans spout that racist shite.

I believe that calling someone a 'pikey' is now considered a form of racist abuse. Lots of references to them as that / gypsies / caravans even on this forum let alone on the terraces and in the pubs.

So you just post any random shit in any random thread now eh? That's how you roll? I feel like I'm your mother walking around angry at the fact I find your sock in the fridge or the TV remote in the dryer.

Your right. I'll just leave it they're.

There's already a couple of references to them in the match thread, not sure we can take the moral high ground here when some of us are guilty of doing it ourselves.

It's tribalism in the modern world. The funny thing is, if you go to a rugby match (which I do quite often), the rivalry is every bit as fierce, there is alcohol on sale, the fans aren't segregated and yet there is never any trouble.

Do you tend to get the great unwashed of the uneducated at rugby matches?

I get the current attitude to possible ethnic references and that it is less and less acceptable to use them, and quite right too, but I sometimes think people give the impression they are a little bit precious, back in the day we tended not to use terms like pikey or whatever so much, there wasn't time, people used to just pile in, when you are exchanging blows or running for what feels like your life, words tend to carry less weight.
I think we ought to recognise the improvement over the years, no we ought not use these terms but it's good that we are moaning about that and not nursing wounds isn't it?

Think I'd better pass on that one! You do get a lot who have absolutely no idea what's going on though and it doesn't seem to be an issue.

So are we saying Milwall don’t have more fans itching to cause trouble too? West Ham definitely have more idiots than most. Unfortunately for them some of those idiots managed to buy the club too.

Are you talking about hooliganism or abuse at football? Two different things. Millwall etc attracted people from the local estates who wanted a punch up. Racist abuse is everywhere in society. Maybe you could argue that Chelsea attracted people with right wing views but they will be the minority now.

Imagine if this happened at the Lane....

I’d love to see the equivalent ‘opponents fans’ thread on the Arsenal forums to see what they’ve said about this....

First thing I thought from work perspective was 'what a ball ache, got to get him out now'.....maybe after 10 mins to see if anything happened. Then you could kick out a load of others along with him. Be even quieter then.

Yeah their fanbase used to be mainly from the estates in Hammersmith and Fulham, now its people from Lagos and posh twats from Kensington as well.

Does it count as self defence to punch him?

I’d say the two things are linked. Certain clubs have more fans who take pride in behaving like animals, and the mob mentality that can grow it around the crowd.
