Collymore is out of order on this.

It may be true that there is some prejudice in football and the media, because there is some prejudice in real life, but using Sol Campbell vs Steven Gerrard/Frank Lampard is not the right example. Throughout Campbell's playing career there have been doubts about his loyalty - hah - and capability to mix well with others, then his odd comments about everything from hunting (the banter!) and mansion tax, mayor of London, and then racism as a reason why he's not being employed. He comes across as a loony and no chairman is going to risk their club for him.

As for Ian Wright. He's done well for himself after his playing career. You don't get the impression he is an Uncle Tom at all. He just has a job, that's all, as Jenas does and Chris Kamara does (Other Collymore tagged in the post).

Just look at some of the other opinions Collymore has on his twitter and maybe that's the answer, trolling or not, that type of personality is not suited to the BBC. Hence why he was on TalkSport and now Russia Today of all places. 150m for Alli/Eriksen/Alderweireld to Liverpool, ffs Stan. It's not that white men fear outspoken black men, in this case, it's just that stupid opinions impact the credibility of everyone connected, and he's full of them.
For the record Stan Collymore is mix raced, so I don't get why he is not classed as a white man

As others have said, i'm fairly certain there are more obstacles for people of colour to overcome. I just don't think that is what's holding Collymore back!
Maybe its the memory of him rearranging Ulrika Johnson's face or just that he has utterly shit insight and opinions on most things he comments on.

Also, to try and call out Ian Wright?! I hated him as an arsenal striker, but he is easily one of my favourite pundits - especially for england games. He has a balance between his passion/involvement and some actual decent punditry which you just dont get from Shearer and the likes. Plus, he seems able to talk about football without his 'arsenal hat' on, which Lawro and Hansen fail to do alot of the time...

As a person of colour, I totally agree that there are other obstacles but Collymore made it as a footballer so he needs to stop playing the race card. It's fcuking offensive. Ian Wright is a pundit, so is Garth Crooks so being black not the obstacle there. He has made it but his behaviour on twitter makes him a Twitter time bomb waiting to explode. He is a liability PR wise and hitting a woman never goes down well and is never forgotten, which will permanently tarnish his brand.

He argues that gazza gets an easy ride for his wife beating past, compared to stan.

Think everyone knows about pauls problems and mental health issues. Think they are more worried and sad about gazza.

Also gazza doesn't try to wind everyone up all the time.

Collymore also has well-known mental health problems. He suffers from depression. OK, the result is not as florid, scatterbrained and tabloid-digestible as Gascoigne's behaviour, but it's no less serious and I'm sure it has contributed to a lot of his badly-received behaviour in the past.

When Gascoigne goes off the rails, he gets treated as a form of entertainment, which is reprehensible in itself, but he generates pity and some sympathy. When Collymore goes into a bad phase, he's not charming and comical, he's alarming and a bit weird, so he generates blame.

They both have mental illnesses. It isn't different. Not really.

Collymore's latest round of tweets with Ian Wright are a sign that he is losing the plot again.

It's different in the fact that i didn't know that stan had mental illness and i'm sure a lot don't.

Although having said that i don't listen to collymore or comment about him usually.

Whilst I agree Collymore is a cock of the highest order. As a black or shall I say mixed raced bloke myself I do kind of agree about Chris Kamara, he really makes me cringe because I think he plays on the stereo type of being black, stupid but funny.

Like denzil in only fools and horses

For me chris just comes over as a loveable but a bit silly guy. His race isn't an issue at all and doesn't effect my thinking. Tbh it doesn't for any of the pundits. Stan comes across as a bit of a dick because the only time i hear about him he is having a dig with little thought put behind it. Not cause his colour.

Never heard that take on him before. He plays the dummy but I've never linked that to race.

See I thought it was widely known because I've heard him talk about it quite a lot.

As i said i don't listen to him. Only hear when someone posts about it.

Another reason might be that ulrika was very popular at the time. Lot of anger about it. But yes race might have come into some peoples thinking.

Gazza doesn't go ranting. Gazza's life got ruined and Gazza apologised to admit he was wrong. He then tried rebuilding and relapsing but didn't blaming society. And Gazza doesn't get many sponsorship or TV shows.
