You can't argue with history, even though in the last ten years we have won one league cup and they have won two cups so not too great a difference.
What they often miss is that even at their height they were topped by United and step by step they have been passed by other sides that have improved, Chelsea and City.
More succinctly those other clubs have stayed ahead of them because they are standing still.
We have now done it and quite possibly Liverpool will do the same so the question is can they regroup and go again and if they can why haven't they done it in the last decade?
I understand that fan's thinking and he ought to be right, I just don't know that the club is on the same wavelength as him.

New guy at work is a Liverpool fan and i'm just listening to him talk about how difficult it is to player the lower league team as you just can't break them down because they defend too much.

Just waiting to be dragged into the conversation and let him know i'm a spurs fan. especially as he's used burnley as an example.

They really are all the same aren't they?!

I've worked in a lot of offices so Ive been present many times for the arrival of a new guy and when they reveal their support it's normally in a quiet way, whereas Lollerpool fans have to always let it be known, tell you about how much they know their football, how great their club is and how unlucky they were at the weekend.

What is it about their supporters?

They are a tier above us at the moment. Inthe last 3 years they have won 2 fa cups and finished 2nd in the league yet still want to sack their manager.

Don't take this as knocking the team. Think we have a great team and are playing lovely football. But we are not considered a big football club yet.
We need trophies and regularly.
Absolutely agree but I think the thing that must be acknowledged and is probably annoying most Arse fans is momentum. We have a positive feel about us at the minute - everyone loves the Manager, our players are being talked about as young, energetic, committed and skilful we have a brand new stadium on the way.
Arse are on the wane, old manager, dis-interested players, terrible league position relative to what they're used to.
It hasn't turned completely but all the signs are that it's going that way.

Just seen a great animation on twitter about Arsenal and Don't put the blame on me - I am Wenger after all.
Had me in stitches. Don't know how to get it onto here else I would. Anyone who can please do. @442oons is the account

We all want Arsenal to be on the wane and it's true they've had a bad old season by their usual (high) standards - let's not forget recent FA cup successes and a 2nd place finish LAST season.

They're obviously not the force they once were and they've struggled in both the acquisition of top players and the development of younger players but I don't for one minute believe they are not going to recover and come back stronger. The question is how long will it take them to bounce back and in the meantime, what can we do to open the gap up and either achieve some success or put ourselves in a position to remain competitive.

All the signs are there for a real North London power shift and I hope/expect that we will see successive seasons of greater success versus our closest rival. That said, whilst I will savour our first ever league finish above them it will feel hollow if we do not step up another level and achieve some honours. This last sentence is the most amazing thing in terms of how far the club has come under Poch - genuine belief that this team can compete for major titles and trophies - can't wait to see how we do!

The last one is very interesting. Man utd was arguably the best club in the country last 20 years. and liverpool also in the 80's. But both of them still struggling now to some extent. The view that top clubs never falls only applicable to the like of Barca or Real.

I think you are forgetting how Barcelona did under Van Gaal...

Some tidbits from /r/gunners this AM in the "Spurs need only 11 points from 7 matches to finish above Arsenal for the first time since 1994-95 - and could guarantee it at the NLD on April 30." thread

"They are absolutely gonna seal that shit during the NLD. Written in the stars."

"This is the year boys, prepare yourselves for years worth of pent up inferiority complex driven abuse lol"

"Who the fuck cares. We have much bigger problems than Spurs finishing above us."

"I can see it now: we squeak past City to make the Cup Final against Spurs. They beat us at Wembley, in Arsene's last ever game as manager, to win the FA Cup whilst simultaneously finishing above us in the league.

Kill me."

"Well after 20 years it had to happen some day. That match could be one of the worst I've ever seen in my entire life"

"Spurs fans will be coming back from the dead to see them finish above us. Their inferiority complex is so strong it can raise the dead."

"Every Spurs fan's dying wish...

"Bury me with my 2016-2017 We Finally did it DVD""

"Kane will bang us left and right in the derby and secure it for them. It's not going to be pretty lol."

"I dread the NLD. Could get ugly."

"I don't think Arsenal fans realise how bad this is going to be. Its going to be a tough 6 months for any Arsenal fan living in London, we will not hear the end of it."

"It's definitely going to happen. Imagine that we lose the NLD, they secure their finish above us, and then Wenger announces a new contract that evening. Would be fucking hilarious how much of a meltdown our club would go into. But I wouldn't even be surprised."

"After 21 years it was bound to happen at some point. They should enjoy it and revel in it after having had to wait so long for that day.

They have finally arrived. Not even joking."

"Am I a bad fan for feeling happy for them? They've done a good job of identifying a good manager and some solid players. They've coached them well and instilled, well, a winning spirit.
I will always root against them in the NLD. I don't have anywhere near the fondness in my heart for Spurs as I do for Gunners. But I do want clubs that build themselves wisely and play wisely to get results.
Football is a bit of a respite from regular life, at least for me, where people who try to do the right thing don't always seem to get good results."

Let's not get ahead of ourselves until the season ends. 21 pts to play for and many things can happen. We are top 20 European team ATM but our Europe encounter are stil dismal. So let's support the team all the way and hope we can finish at least 2nd..... and win the FA cup. That would help us in mentality and also secure good talent.

Btw if Man U wins Eoropa, it means top 4 will not qualify for UCL right?

I think they underestimate the consistency Wenger has given them and instead, resort to calling us shit.

We have finished above every single team to play in the premier league at some point other than arsenal since he took over whilst never finishing higher than 3rd.

Wenger always bounce back after a bad spell so I won't take it that we will definitely finish above them unless mathematically impossible. Anyway, I don't see a point of even celebrating finishing above Arsenal.

I know what you mean. It's a bit sad that it will be the first time in 20 years that we've done it, so it's nothing to brag about really.

However, I do feel after what has happened previously we need to get that particular monkey off our back.

The guy who made the last comment is a fan who I respect whichever team he supports.

No, it will be in addition to the top 4. There is a maximum of 5 teams from one league in the CL. Now if Leicester win the CL & Utd win the EL.... That would push 4th place into the EL

Im guessing you don't live in North London?

To me, being surrounded by the fuckers and having to put up with their St Tottingham Day bollocks EVERY year means It'll be fucking sweet, maybe if their gobshite fans were a bit more magnanimous then it wouldn't mean so much, but it does....it really fucking does.

Well under Poch, I think finishing above Arsenal is his last priority. Winning cups and securing UCL is his top priority. He doesn't have these baggage so I think we should also move on and just focus on our performance.

We just got to finish at least 2nd at this point of time..... itself is not easy.

I live in Singapore, I have mates whom are Arsenal supporters.... there is adversity but less emotional. I too suffered like all fans.... but I won't go and make a statement out of it.
