My stream for the game was shit so went to listening on Talksport. At half time both their analysts agreed that it didn't even hit the City player's arm.

Once I saw the highlights it was clearly a handball.
I don't know what the ref saw but from my sky tv angle there were no real clear pictures of anything. The ball seemed to make a double contact like leg and arm or leg and chest but I couldn't tell anything for certain from what I saw. Also if DeBruyne is right and the law changed to anything below the shirt sleeve that makes it even more questionable.

As for what he was saying about the preseason etc he was right. The question was along the lines of why is this year so unpredictable and he said it's because no one had a preseason, they had about 5 days of it then games. No time between league games to coach and an overzealous international schedule. Frankly it's a miracle we are where we are this season, or more likely incredible work to drill the team by Mourinho and credit to him for that.

Just hope we don't lose Hojbjerg as we will be absolutely fucked.

Well yes and no..

I agree with the sentiment about rules changing for changing sake. But Jesus literally trapped the ball with his arm...a clear handball in any iteration of the rules. Not sure why this is even a debate.

I don't think the media are helping at all with the constant questioning of the new rules. They should focus on the constant cheating by all players in winning penalties.

I’m not saying it wasn’t handball, but they are not helping things with this below/above T-shirt line bollocks.

This attitude typifies why I felt confident going into this game, the club is so far up it's own ass in terms of their style from it's fans, it's social media hell even the players. If you watch the interview with Rodri after Leicester it's just so obvious that despite their obvious quality, this team can easily be frustrated by teams daring to play low block with a decent counter.

Didn't Rodri play for Atletico...

Yeah, sky mentioned that and it's bullshit.
Firstly, it hit his bicep, so this isn't even relevant.
Secondly, it's the deltoid muscle that is nominally not handball, this is so a typical chest motion won't be foul play. For some players this will be the shirt line, but mostly not.

Another point, our kit design with the navy on the deltoid might actually be quite a smart design to highlight this distinction - our just a coincidence.

"If Jose gets them in top 4 this season, then it is a very good result. If he wins the Prem, then it will be a clear indicator that he is still a better manager than Ole."

I hate Chelsea...a lot, but the match you're referencing was one of the most corrupt I've ever witnessed. The ref cheated to give Barca the win, not football purism.
"The ref cheated" - what does that even mean?

If anything, that match was a great example of how refs are human. How one mistake can lead to another as soon as it gets in your head that you've fucked up.

To be honest I really had no idea United fans had such an obsession with Mourinho still.

I think the fact that you’ve had to analyse it in detail and even acknowledged that for some players it will apply ( albeit mostly not) just proves that it has been made unnecessarily complicated.

It's irrelevant because that "complication" has been invented by an invented concept itself.

The PL announced the rule as:

From the 2020/21 season in the Premier League, there will be a new interpretation of the law on handball made by the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

The boundary between the shoulder and the arm is now defined by "the bottom of the armpit".

To penalise a player for handball the match officials must have clear evidence that the ball has struck the player's arm below the bottom of the armpit and in the red zone indicated below.

There's nothing about the bottom of the shirt line. Where it's come in is, as normal, the majority of people have just looked at the pretty picture instead of the wording, and have seen the boundary between green and red as a shirt. Like the player is wearing some sort of morph suit.

I'm surprised the idiots in the media haven't looked at the picture and argued that it's not handball if it's the right arm.

Most teams in the league have the ability to do that nowadays too. Well, the fast attacking ones do anyway. Us, Liverpool, Chelsea, Wolves, Southampton, Palace, even Newcastle with Wilson. If teams can defend well, counter and take their chances then they will be got at. It happened to them last season too.

You've never seen some Spurs fans obsession with Poch?

Not with the same level of hatred/bitterness, no. The situations with the two are completely different. Plus I am not saying their obsession is wrong, I can't remember the ins and outs of Jose's time there and how much of the blame they lay on him but it was just an obsession (or type of obsession) that I didn't know was there.

You crazy bro. There's human error and then there was that performance. He was bribed, or corrupted somehow. Mistakes lead to mistakes my arse.

This rule is one of many showing how the powers that be have zero clue.
SO what happens when the ball hits the "seam" between the two, how do you even tell? It's utterly stupid. Arm = handball, done.

Normally, if a ref feels they've made a poor decision 1 way, they try to balance it out by awarding a soft decision to the other team. If I remember that game correctly the ref made a poor decision, then doubled down, tripled down, and by the end of the game he was deeper in than Kweku Adoboli of UBS
