I did find it funny the Everton fans chanting "Premiership what's the score". They do have this weird conspiracy going on in their heads, even when the replay was shown on the screen and it was a clear foul they booed and chanted it again. I guess it's their coping mechanism for losing. It must be corruption.

They are starting to go full Liverpool… never go full Liverpool.

Grand old Team is basically 40 pages of people either saying they deserved better but should have taken their chances or moaning about corruption with pretty much nothing in between.

didn’t see a single person admit Gomes fouled Emerson (which I don’t think is even remotely contentious) and the few comments that even mention us say we aren’t great, didn’t see a single one that acknowledged how many we had out

Looked clear to me when saw replay in the ground but Dawson and Mike Dean on Sky apparently said was very soft and VAR should not have got involved.

I sit in the block next to the away fans, a few of them were mouthing “it’s a men’s game” when the replay was shown but at the end of the day he failed to get any of the ball, VAR was right to get involved but can’t believe Boly vs Saka for second yellows or Odegaard handball - zero consistency

In fairness, if you showed me right now Brighton's starting XI for Thursday I don't think I'd be able to immediately tell you more than 1 or 2 players they have missing, despite them apparantly having 8 players out long term.

Comment from the daily telegraph write up.

I'm a proud (blue) Scouser, and I have been a footie fan since the early '60s. There are some thins I like about today's game and some things I don't like. Equally, there are things I understand, and things I don't understand - for example, what is the point of that bloke (no presumed gender assignment intended) wearing a mask when he has his name emblazoned across the back of his shirt? Doesn't that rather defeat the purpose?

From Grand ol Team

“He tried to protect the ball by putting his body across Gomez. He wasn't strong enough and collapsed under pressure. If anything it was a foul on Gomes. Neil Lennon called it correct.”

They really are a different species in that part of the world.

Agreeing with Neil Lennon is the first clue he isn't right in the head.

As a long-time beneficiary of this thread, I don't mind putting in a shift.

Grand Old Team (Continuing from the previous post by goughie1966)

Before the Match

Why? We've beaten Newcastle and Chelsea already this season, why so worried about Spurs?
  • Not taking anything away from them wins but both of them aren't much. I fancied taking them both at Goodison.
  • Spurs away looks a very different task. Though i dont see us without a chance. Just need to keep them quiet early on.
  • Last 6 games Everton have 15 points. Last 6 games Spurs have 7 points. Great chance.
  • I'm quite confident for most games, but I really do not see us getting anything here, sorry peeps. Not that we can't win or Spurs are some great team, I just got a feeling of doom.
  • I’m not living in a world where I’m scared of Tottenham Hotspur. Sorry lads.
  • 2-2
  • Need Pace here, Dobbin Danjuma may come into the reckoning
  • Need to get over the cup defeat and focus on the job at hand... still think we'll get beat though. COYB! Fun fact. Out of the last ten times we've played on 23 December, we have won once. The only time we played Spurs on this date, they smashed us 2-6 at Goodison.
  • If Sheffield Utd can get a point away at Villa, the blues can get one at Spurs. Maybe three.
  • Easy 3 points here. 3-1 to the mighty blues, Lescott to put the seal on it.
  • The away fans need to sing Richy’s song and he’ll go to jelly.
Take a draw. But think we might get a stuffy win for some reason. We will beat city as well.
  • Save some of those drugs for Christmas.
  • Spurs have scored in every game this season apparently. Let’s close that down
Gomes has good technique and great body strength, but his other limitation were already at the edge of being good enough for a prem footballer and that was before 'not that kind of player' Son tried to end his career.
  • Is Son still ok?
  • Beat these, Everton!! And that bum Hojbjerg!
  • Spurs just feels like a corporate circus
Beat these, Everton!! And that bum Hojbjerg!
  • Glad I'm not the only ones with an irrational dislike of this bell
  • Bumped into him in a lift in a hotel in Leeds last year. Looks like an annoying miniature chav goblin up close
  • Tourists everywhere in the London stadiums, cameras in front of their faces all game, cracks me up, just watch the footie ffs.
  • Nice stadium, can’t wait for our big sexy long zoom outs when we’re in BMD
  • Bang in an OG for us Richie lad you were always my fav
So last time we won 5 away top flight games in a row, one of the games was away at spurs 1-0 in 1970, supposedly
  • It’s destiny
  • Tourist club Spurs
During the Match
  • What is DCL doing? Gotta take that shot way sooner. Waste of a good opportunity.
  • How was that a foul by Patterson
  • Richy of course… FFS!!!
  • Written in the stars
  • Fuming. Had Sky Bet open earlier to put a bet on him to score first, but decided I should think more positively. Lesson in there, somewhere.
  • Was always going to be Richy, and this is why I didnt give us much hope for this one. One of the best attacking sides and we've just had a great but exhausting stretch.
  • Spurs have looked flat. Think we can get one on them
  • Did Richie celebrate? Not watching
  • It’s fine. 1-1 by half
  • Not really, which considering his appetite / desire for scoring and the comparative drought since he went there, I was a little surprised but pleased about.
  • How did Johnson miss that? Should have been 2-0... they are getting behind us far too easy.
  • Back line is all over the place today.
  • This is where our old school brand of keeping your shape has a tough time. Their movement and patterns of play aren't conventional at all and we're not really in a place to deal with it.
  • They should’ve wrapped it up already
  • Spurs really do have the most punchable team in the league. Everyone one of them just needs a good slap.
  • Open game with chances both ends but they have better attackers than us
  • Hate Spurs. On par with that lot for me.
  • Son… Game over lads.
  • You can see why Spurs fan are enjoying their football right now. 2-0.
  • Can’t stand Son
  • Christmas ruined!
  • Jeez... 2-0 Son. Far too easy... could be onto a hiding here.
  • Everything looks way too easy for them. Hard to blame one of our boys but we’re a step behind spurs.
  • We've both had 3 good chances each... they slotted 2.
  • Why are all the spurs players obsessed with Gana?
  • Andre Gomes, let’s go. Careful of Son
  • Taking the absolute piss bringing Gomes on
  • TAKE SON OUT GOMES!!!!!!
  • Definitely agree with the comments we have missed our chances and Spursy have taken theirs. Think we can still hurt them but don't like the way they pass through us with too much ease. We don't have an answer to that it seems.
  • Remember as well they had a blank mid week whilst we played. We’ve also been playing the same 11 almost every game because we can’t rotate.
  • If we could go to Spurs and put all those mitigating factors aside and just swat them away then we wouldn’t have just been in back to back relegation battles.
  • Ange with a masterclass here. Everton play direct and on the counter. The counter to that is to counter the counter. They're better at it than us..
  • Dyche obviously not done his homework on spurs. Thinks a bank of 4 and then 5 will work every time
Employing a 4-5-1, mid block with some pressure when the ball is in their back half or in dispute and counter attack after being in a low block when pressured back. Nothing crazy and has worked a treat plenty of other times, sadly today the players haven't been up to the task.
  • It's also what Spurs are engineered to beat. They have movement everywhere and it's just hard to pick up everyone and not get played around doing what we do.
  • Porro is a good player.
  • The speed of Son.. that's something we've been missing in our team for quite some time.. anytime we come up against a team with a bit of pace we get a lesson.
  • I'd actually rate our chances more against City than this lot.
  • So many holes in this spurs yet our final ball has been absolutely dire
I was seeing Spurs fans saying they can score 6 today like they did at Goodison, I had a chuckle to myself, but they really could.
  • That league win we had over them was during the height of the pandemic, when there was no crowds attending the matches. We had that epic FA Cup win against them at Goodison in 2021 as well. That's our measly lot in terms of wins over Spurs since 2012.
  • WTF IS GOING ON WITH THE TWO BALLS???
  • Literally spurs are giving us chances
  • 2 crap teams. Just one with a few players that know how to finish.
  • Spurs can be spursy too so not all hope is gone.
  • Johnson is playing a bit like he’s got massive concussion.
  • Attackers should be embarrassed. Doing nothing with all the gifted chances
  • Tottenham give us loads of room but we can't do owt with the opportunity. It's like watching Joe Bugner.
  • Haha, absolutely spanking these for last 10-15 minutes but it just ain’t happening is it
  • Hahaha that dive from skipp was pathetic!? How is that given ffs these refs are a joke!!!!
  • I’ve only been watching 10 minutes and we should have had 3 lol
  • Mad finish to this half. We’ve ended up the better side and are 2-0 down.
  • I know they never give pens on corners but how blatant can you be?
  • They're literally offering us a wheelbarrow full of lasagna to shovel it into their pants but we're not willing.
  • Spurs will surely come out better but yet again this Everton side proving how much they are willing to fight for the shirt. Absolutely no problem losing in this way - the defence just weren’t awake for the first 15 mins which has cost us. Absolutely embarrassing from that Skipp trying to get Onana sent off. Shameless stuff.
  • Dyche has to tell players to go down if they have an obvious pull on shirt. Stop being too honest
  • Premier league consistency is pathetic. Loved seeing Onana getting undresssed by spurs player and getting no pen
We could be bloody winning this. Keep it going second half, because Ange won't shut up shop.
  • They`ll score more though...
  • That shirt tug in our box and it's a pen.
  • Think Spurs found us out at the start with the quick switch in play, but we've played ourselves back into the game. Gomes actually providing something different to our other midfielders.
  • I mean spurs might get a hatful here, but at least we are playing entertaining footie, and that pleases me
2-0 down with the amount of chances we've had is shocking. We've had no luck with the bounce of the ball or from the ref, who again has been dreadful. I hate how we defend corners too. Just inviting teams to play short is amateur stuff, and jammy bounce or not, we deserve to concede like that.
  • Yes, a man short again out wide. Absurd considering Spurs have no real aerial threat.
xG is a pointless stat.
  • The amount of helmets who think imaginary goals count for a darn thing is too damn high!...
  • Get in lads!!! We got a match now
  • Don’t you dare VAR that
  • Never a foul. Sniff it dcl haters
  • Haha var coming in to save the day for spurs
  • VAR is such a scam it’s amazing
  • Corrupt
  • WTF
  • Wouldn't have happened if it was the other way around.
  • Corrupt. No peno and now this?
  • NEVER. A clear and obvious foul. You can’t just step off the ball and put your body in the way and expect a foul. Embarrassing again from this joke of a league.
  • Pl are scum
  • Im sorry to say, but thats a foul, very, very soft, but its a foul. Great finish from Dom. :(
  • Just walk off. What a disgrace this sport has become.
  • Weak. Really weak. Weak play from Royal, weak from the referee.
  • Soft but was a foul.
  • Their player initiated the contact by leaning back into him
  • Just let there be no physical contact of any kind in football anymore what's the point
  • sickening
  • One absolute outhouse this ref.
  • Hate Spurs
  • Like what Gomes is brining. Spurs don’t fancy this.
  • Royal just rolling about at ever bit of contact….get up
Big six var decision, who'd have thought. Not enough contact other way it's another big six goal, sickening.
  • yeah not enough of a shirt pull for a penalty to us in the first half but enough of a foul well away form goal to stop our goal. Laughable.
  • That was a goal. Don't care what those refs are saying. The spurs player was going down as soon as he felt Gomes.
  • Onana shud be fined kicking it out
  • He goes down because he knows the challenge is coming in and he hasn't got the ball under control. Almost certain that wouldn’t have been overturned if it was at the other end.
  • We are used to the super 5 getting all the shouts but Spurs are just like the fat bird you have to be nice too
Royal on the ground nonstop
  • They’re all at, Richy probably the most likely to stay on his feet amongst those clowns!
  • Corruption is rife. Bring on the super league
  • He had no balance as he was standing on the ball. Joke call. We should have been at 2-1 imo. No spine on that ref
  • We have defo murdered some black cats under a ladder.
it’s sickening really is
  • They're a better team than us, there are others. We'll have days like this.
  • Spurs Legend Danjuma returns.
  • Hearing Danjuma made a last minute offer to come on for Spurs instead there.
  • This Royal is a total cheat. Typical Spurs player
  • Prior to today, if we had our 10pts back then a win today would have seen us 4pts off them. The difference is scoring goals.
  • the protection they're getting is 'kin disgusting btw
  • Kuluveski just arm tackled two people lol no yellow of course
  • Like the way the commentators are still questioning Oliver’s VAR nonsense
The scoreline doesn’t reflect the performance, quite encouraging given the mid week disappointment.
  • the first 20 mins had me fuming but I admit its been much better. I'd even say we've been the better side since.
  • This spurs side are made of paper
  • So why was that outmuscled, disgusting one sided refereeing yet again.
  • Literally what is the difference with that tackle on Patterson???
  • Better finishing and this is a whole different game. Created way more chances then them. Not bothered by this
  • Good Keep that Vicario.
  • We need to practice falling down more
  • Finish.. Gomes!
  • Go on, effing disallow that you tw*ts
  • Should be level here... off the line now.... Spursy on the rack...
  • OMG we are getting robbed
  • Spurs players hitting the ground and staying down far too often.
  • Some more shirt holding in the box!
  • They pull down garner and it's a foul on us lol
  • Another ghost freekick
  • We ready for the 2 minutes of injury time.
  • We're playing better here than we have in some of our wins
  • A sexy loss
  • that kulusevski booking for bad aftershave? obviously not anything connected with football rules of course...
  • Come on Spurs, bottle it just for us. Although to be fair we deserve at least a point here.
  • We've been robbed today by poor defending in the opening minutes and the usual corrupt official's.
  • Probably going to fall short but Everton was every bit their equal today. And some nice play by Gomes which was unexpected.
  • We can hang with the big boys again.
  • Danjuma damn it, that was our chance.
  • Feel sick to be honest
  • PL get the result they we’re desperate for, we were by far the better team
  • We sure that didn’t cross the line?
Good performance. Draw a line under it and move on.
  • Wouldn't be drawing a line under it. Loads of positives we need to be drawing on. We've just gone to a top 4 ish team and bossed them for over an hour. That needs to be reiterated a lot.
Post Match
  • Had it not been for the goalies knee, it would've been a goal. Really lucky spurs
  • robbed robbed robbed disgusting. i feel sick utter utter had enough of it.
  • Can I just say by the way that Spurs are one of the most open teams in the league at home. We were always gonna be getting in behind loads today - yet just one valid goal to show for it 🤷‍♂️
  • Hope whoever is on VAR is alone at Christmas
  • That was a great performance.
  • We bossed them, I know it’s about results, but they couldn’t handle us.
  • Damn! We should have got something out of that. Finishing cost us, overall play was pretty good. The ref needs looking at, a lot of interesting decisions
  • It's a slap in the face. But let's have it right. Despite the pathetic start, they've put in a grown up performance. Feel like saying, Ange, Tottenham, who are you? We're a far far better team than them. Our trouble the blood rushes to our head in front of goal and we have wet farts at the back in front of goal. Onwards and er upwards ?
  • The DCL goal was a goal. No doubt about it. Both the referee and linesman have fantastic views of it, on both sides, and neither see a foul. They then look at a replay which falls way way short of proving there was a foul. And then some of the horror decisions.
  • Pen in the first half.Nothing free kicks all over the show. 2 clear as day corners. Would hang my head in shame to be a ref in this league. State of them
  • Don't know how anyone can be angry. Played well, we are at best a mid-table team and unfortuantely we dont have the calibre to take chances consistency. It is what it is. Can't win them all, showed plenty of promosing signs to that we will be okay.

During the Match

  • Romero injury, so sad…
  • Romero is actually dogshit isn't he. Looked so promising for Atalanta too but Tottenham DNA is undefeated
  • Time for dcl 🍿
  • Usually pick to watch the chasing pack. But I'd rather watch the first woman ref a PL game than Sp*rs tbh.
  • Ange wants to bait teams into pressing them high, with counter attacking specialists like Son on the pitch. But opposition teams still don’t give a ****. Everton are confident in their ability to breach Sp**s because they know Ange can’t control games. Should be interesting to see Ange with his fully assembled team and how opposition reacts to his tactics.
  • DCL got his legs tangled in his skirt last second there
  • DCL you bumm, shoot quicker
  • Man Sp**s have an insane record against the toffees. Hope dyche magic prevails here
  • Everton useless
  • Richarlisonnnnnn!
  • Richarlison looks good, great goal there.
  • Nice goal Sp**s feck
  • Good counter attack, caught them cold. Problem for Sp**s, they won’t be able to keep Everton out IMO. [SA Gunner]
  • They're decent going forward, Postecoglu is a good coach especially in attacking phases. Sp**s will still Sp**s how do you **** that up lol
  • @SA Gunner you're right anyway Sp**s don't have good defenders and their coach can't teach solid defence either
  • Commentator talking about Tottenham title aspirations again lol
  • In form Richarlison is a scary sight.
  • Because of that tap in? Richarlison needs a year or so of decent form before he can be taken seriously again
  • I wouldn’t say they don’t have a good defense, I think they use their high intensity to both attack and defend. They don’t manage games they want to attack all game, and that is their problem for me. If Ange doesn’t adapt more he’ll be run out of the premier league. I do think Ange is a smart guy so he will adapt. That’s why I’m almost sure Everton gets back into this game, and Sp**s would need to outscore them more than anything else. [SA Gunner]
In form Richarlison is a scary sight.
  • Makes good runs and has good height. Otherwise not much more to his game for me. [SA Gunner]
  • 2-0. Now you’d say Sp**s are safe. As long as Everton don’t score soon. [SA Gunner]
  • Game Over.
  • Everton need to keep it to only 2 at least till half time to have a chance
  • Gomes to break Son's legs🙏
  • United 8th, Chelsea 10th, us 1st. Good times for people like me who became Arsenal fans while United and Chelsea were our biggest competitors. Know Sp**s are our rivals but I always disliked United and Chelsea more.
  • Not to hate on Ange but really the whole novelty of his coaching is that he tells everyone to run forward in a league that hates taking risks
  • High risk high reward stuff from Sp**s, you have to give credit to that approach. Ange is a brave coach, kudos. [SA Gunner]
  • Yeah I hear that, but I don’t think we were this reckless. This Sp**s side is closer to our 21/22 side that bottler top 4. Doesn’t have enough defensive stability. [SA Gunner]
  • I think I’m starting to understand why Vicario was so cheap a price. He is unable to distribute long and accurately. Notice how Sp**s don’t use the long option to gain ground and create chances with their high press. I think that’s why Raya was their first choice. [SA Gunner]
High risk high reward stuff from Sp**s, you have to give credit to that approach. Ange is a brave coach, kudos.
  • You see that’s why I like his philosophy. I’ve watched far too many reactive managers who are scared to make bold decisions in recent years *cough* Southteta…so this is a breath of fresh air in the PL.
  • Everton aren’t scoring today
  • BRILLIANT ball by Gomez, sadly, Harrison is absolute cack. Sp**s will come undone with this disastrous style of play throughout the season. Anyone thinking they'll be in the running for top 4 are as deluded as their bottom-feeding supporters.
  • Lol this is chaos bro, you win nothing with this type of ball. I’d even call it nonsense if I wanted to be disrespectful to Ange, but I appreciate his philosophy so I wont. Think of the managers who combined attacking excellence with control. The level that Ange is likely aspiring to with Sp**s. Liverpool 2019-20. You want to see attacking ball and killing the opponent both in squeezing them and countering them, look no further than Kloppo. [SA Gunner]
  • Not sure how Everton haven't scored about 4 so far. They have played really well.
  • Terrible finishing from Everton, but Vicario also is a good shot stopper.
  • Everton dogshit
  • Wave after wave of everton attack in the first half at home. They are just living in the hope of everton being **** in front of goal. So much for philosophy.
  • I like Angie, but this is childish tactics. You can’t have a ding dong fight every game. Everton winning the xgoal
  • Everton all over them, dominant, but just cannot put it away. Sp**s are going nowhere with these tactics.

  • I don’t think he’ll manage to pull that off at Sp**s especially in his first season, that even took Klopp a bit of time to reach. Still, I would have definitely taken this style of attacking, chaos ball in Arteta’s first season or so at the club 😂 during that period we were on the cusp of a relegation scrap at one point, I think that seems to be easily forgotten. All in all, he’s doing a decent job thus far with a pretty basic Sp**s team.
  • Sarr twisting & turning like one of those hunters in the remake of Resident Evil 1 lol
  • **** yes Gomes
  • Commentator willed that goal in
  • Danjuma almost
  • Clown defending from Sp**s ffs
  • Why didn't Gomes and Danjuma start ffs
  • Without the refs being cvnts, this should have been 2-2
  • Why are Sp**s so open?
  • Same commentator who asked about Sp**s title credentials said "we're in that time where Sp**s do Sp**s type things - give points away" lol
  • Pickford is such a ****
Post Match
  • Seriously, how have they won this game lol
  • Everton deserved at least a point today ffs
  • Sp*rs are so trash lol
  • Imagine this Ange's style of football competing for the title. **** me lol [SA Gunner]
  • Superb match as expected, Sp**s were very lucky in the end. The snoozefest next
  • Sp**s have stolen 3 points here. Jammy priicks
Superb match as expected, Sp**s were very lucky in the end. The snoozefest next
  • Superb entertainment for sure, zero control either side. Don't mind a boring away game now if it means we don't defend like these teams
  • Commentators here for the first time were very unimpressed with Sp**s' naivety, particularly with the way Everton was easily restricting Vicario's movement on corners. That said a lot of it came simply from Romero forced out and deadwood Dier stepping on the pitch, without him they become a complete mess
  • Sp**s seriously got lucky yesterday It only matter of time teams gonna sit deep and limit Sp**s. I have to say Dyche adding modern touch to his style his teams more possession and attacking.
  • Only now checking the Spuds highlights. How lucky can you be...

Honestly, this happens quite a lot. Sometimes it's his hand, other times his foot. Occasionally a shoulder. But usually yes, if it wasn't for the goalie's <insert part of body>, it would've been a goal.
