Normally these types of things don't bother me, but I was mildly irritated by Shearer on MOTD last Saturday.

Linekar asks Shearer after the City highlights, are Spurs title contenders? Shearer's answer: Well, this year it is a very weird league, and you have to say that with all the injuries and things to Liverpool (lists them out), and other teams not firing on all cylinders, they are in with a shout if they do this, that, and the other.

Next game is the Newcastle v Chelsea game. After the highlights, Linekar asks Shearer, are Chelsea (managed of course by Lampard, who hasn't won a thing) title contenders? Shearer's answer: Yes, definitely.

Why with the players and coach that we have does it have to be a weird league with teams at a significant disadvantage for us to win the thing? Yet apparently, a team with a coach who hasn't won a thing are "definitely" in with a shout.
Is see what you mean but to be fair mate that's all purely based on recent history. Its the first time since 1985 that we;ve been top after 9 games so we hardly have pedigree or track record do we. At least he acknowledged we could be contenders.

Money can hide a lot of his shortcomings
Also Lamaprd is no mug, he's been managed by some of the very best managers in recent times and he's a very clever switched on bloke. But i do agree if we were in a race with Chelsea then i'd like to think Jose's experience would count in the important times especially towards the end of the season.

You're right. I have no doubt that had our positions been reversed, there would be no way on Earth they'd be saying, "Spurs go joint top with Liverpool". Never in a month of Sundays.
I honestly don't care about this though. It's not the pundits who decide who win the league. The more that Spurs can carry on going about our business and picking up wins without all the media going over the top about us, the better

Jamie Carragher’s analysis of Harry Kane was very interesting yesterday

I hate this. It's very good analysis but it propel the idea that Harry Kane looks for fouls and is going down easy. The more that narrative is out there in the public eye the less he's likely to get from referees. Kane already has to get scythed down to win a penalty as Refs are wise to him using his body to create contact.

I’m not crazy about Kane’s streetwise traits being highlighted so much, but at no point in that analysis is there an insinuation that he goes down easily. He draws fouls - legitimate fouls including a heavy contact. Doesn’t matter how wise to it refs are, if they see him get kicked or clattered as often happens in Carragher’s analysis, any honest ref has to give the free-kick. And that’s why Carragher ‘loves it’. It’s not a case of gamesmanship or outright cheating from Kane - he’s just outsmarting the opposition.

All of those are fouls he highlights and he didn't dive once on Saturday. Just when you start talking about players looking for fouls, flopping out their arms on the floor and exaggerating pain then the more that gets into a refs head that he's looking for fouls they are going to be more wary about being 'conned' so will be extra careful awarding.

The penalty Kane won earlier in the season vs Brighton was a stonewall penalty and only because it was who Kane is and how he creates contact that it became a story. The fact that there was even a debate about that Penalty means that there is some sort of narrative about Kane out there.

Each to their own but I think Hargreaves is really knowledgeable, Richards isn't as tactical but he's funny and good banter so its good to have a mix of styles.

Hargreaves and Rio Ferdinand are good together on BT. Ferdinand rarely says anything controversial so I quite like him.

I quite like Micah. Hargreaves is ok but a bit dull. Rio is not for me. Owen shouldn’t be allowed freedom of speech.

When he used to commentate I would feel a mixture of sleepiness and sadness, bordering on despondency.

Quite like Rio actually and Richards.

You’re apoetic fella aren’t you?

Don’t know why I can’t take to Rio, most seem to like him, I just find him a bit of a cliche machine.

A friend of mine once said Rio Ferdinand’s mouth looked like it had been designed by Salvador Dali, I actually think he’d be ideal as Plug, if they made a film of the Bash st kids.

I'm not that fussed either - just commenting on the disparity between the way some clubs are reported on compared to others.

It's funny how different sets of fans perceived this, some Spurs fans think Carragher was exposing his gameplan and setting a narrative whilst other fans perceived this as if he was Mane/Salah then they would call this diving.

I don't see this anything sinister by the way, they used to highlight Drogba's antics and Diego Costa's all the time and they were far worse but ref's never used to clamp down on them so why I'm not sure would clamp down, they are legitimate fouls anyway.

Carragher repeatedly said that this isn’t cheating. I don’t have a problem with his analyses at all.
