What to do with Danny Rose?

He's in the middle of a 2 year contract with watford - it isn't running out this summer.
It is extraordinary behaviour.
What to do with Danny Rose, eh?
On the Watford forum nobody talks about him as a candidate for the 22-23 roster, other than "likely to go/have gone" and "sold/released/loaned". Probably just pending a formal announcement.

I'd actually forgotten he signed for Watford, he made so few appearances for them.

Quite sad, really, but I'm pleased that Spurs appear to be taking care of him. 32 years old would be very young to retire, but it's fair to say he's probably lost the hunger to compete for a place in a PL-level squad now.

Perhaps a move to an "easier" league such as Portugal, Belgium, Australia or the MLS would suit him if he wants to boost his pension for a year or two.

Failing that, as others have said, I think he could be a brilliant youth coach. Hopefully we can find a place for him if that's the path he wants to go down.

It's something i'm pleased the club does for a number of our ex-players, be it the place the chose to begin earning their badges, or other roles within the club not to be too morbid but a number of our ambassadors are creeping up in age. Even if it's just an open door type thing we have with Rose that it helps with his mental health issues etc, far better than just hoofing them when their careers are done (especially if young) i wonder if some of it has been pushed by Mabbut and him trying to keep Gazza in a good space.

It's been looking for a little while that Defoe may return in some capacity i hope that happens, i think he'd be great for the youngsters; it's actually been great seeing Ledley still signing autographs out in Korea.

We know that Rose will want the full year paid off, as a minimum. We've seen it all before. I am uneasy that we are getting involved in this - it is disrespectful to watford.

Once he is formally released, then sure, for that debut goal alone, he deserves access to our facilities whenever he likes.

Not an issue for me as Watford said last season he wasn't needed and try find a new club. I think he was told to stay away from the training ground as well.

Nah, fuck Watford, they obviously don't want him around so good for him for still wanting to train, rather than sit back and just take his wage.

We're just helping one of our own and long may we continue to support our ex-players in whatever capacity we can.
Danny's had his issues but he's a good lad and after being a great servant for us, deserves our help.

I'd have him here to take his badges in the blink of an eye because he's experienced so much that he can pass onto our youngsters.

Interesting. That's what I was wondering, that surely he would have needed permission from Watford before training with another club.

Rose was really good with our under 23s whilst training with them.

Reckon he’d be a good shout to coach with youth team as he seems to connect well with them and seems a genuinely good guy.

Might be something he is happier doing at this stage in his life?

In terms of playing maybe his legs and passion for the game have just gone a little?

Surely a club can't ban a player from training? Wouldn't that be grounds to get the contract paid up.

Anyone reckon he could get fit and straighten his head out?
I think we are well past that point. Tbh I’m quite surprised the club are being so accommodating. I appreciate he had his issues and maybe still does but he still messed us around chronically with saying he’d just sit his contract out. Or like said maybe he’s very good with the academy kids. Still surprises me a bit.

some other clubs have an older pro that just plays in the under 23 team to help out the younger players and start off their coaching badges. Wonder if Danny maybe thinking of going down this route as apparently he was great with the kids when he was sent to train with them

Yeah but he's not good at all with his superiors. To be part of a coaching team you still have to be able to take instruction and translate that down. Danny is not a fan of taking instruction. He's had problems everywhere in the last few years "because he knows best".

I grew up with him I Doncaster. He’s the year below me in school and his cousin is one of my best mates,
He’s always had that issue, always though he was a god and been successful in his football career hasn’t helped. He’ll never change. His family are very rough and one of his other cousins is a “face” in Doncaster, so he had so much protection because he’s the golden boy of the family so he grew up an arrogant little twat who went around doing what he wanted with any reprocussions

It’s a bit odd turning out for our u21 while still contracted to Watford, unless of course it’s with their blessing (I’d think unlikely).

Whatever the reasons behind it, I do like how the club seem quite accommodating where ex-players are concerned.

Personally I think it all went a bit ‘Pete Tong’ for Rose when he saw Walker get his big money move to Citeh, and probably thought he should have had a similar move himself. I maybe doing him a grave Injustice, but he seemed to have a bit of a chip on his shoulder after that.

Thanks for the info. Let's hope that he reflects on some of the hard knocks (hard by his standards, not ours) life has delivered and that he has the maturity to recognize his own hand in all of it. He probably has much to offer given the response of the youth to his coaching.

I'm so glad that other people recognise this about "our" Danny Rose. He's an absolute twat!
I was introduced to him as I had a family member at the Olympics with him and met him a couple of times about 10 years ago just before his breakthrough with us and I've never met anyone who thought so highly of himself. He was incredibly rude and seemed to think he was better than everyone around him. Everyone was there to serve his purpose.
