Unless something massive happens, like signing Eto'o or Villa, which I personally cant see happening, what we wont have this season is HYPE.

Last season it was all about us breaking the top 4, and we started very badly. If we lose Berbatov and Keane, and dont make some very big name signings, or if they stay, I think the media will be against us (already seen Gary Stevens saying we have absolutely no chance of getting into the top 4)

This could work in our favour. We could come in udner the radar. I think statements from within the club have all been about dampering expectations, no one is demanding or promising CL qualification. If after 6 games we are top, no one will believe us.

I read an interesting article about top end sport, that its all about the mental aspects and the best teams do well when they have a 'us vs them' attitude, something that someone like Fergie *spits* does very well. I think we could have that this season, and it could work massively in our favour.

If Bent finds a real bit of scoring form and if Giovani turns out to be something really special, I think we will do better this year than we did last year.

Less pressure would be a tonic. Psycology in sport is a massive thing and i think we will be less tense. I think the opposition will take us a little less seriously and we could capitalise a bit on that early on. Get early momentum and we all know what great start can do to your season.

Don't forget the foundations of the team, the back 5, is improved but defenders don't catch the eye so they should still remain hype free to begin with. We've got more and better midfeild options but the outside view would still eb tempered becasue of the front two leaving.

Interesting post Krafty

Mid table at best. Struggling to stay up at worst

I think some people are forgetting how many goals Bent scored at Charlton... Assuming he'll now be a starter, with our added creativity in midfield Bent could well score 20+ again...

I agree that Bent will be crucial next season but we most certainly require 1 additional player because if Bent gets injured then we are left with just Peckhart and Dos Santos. Hardly an inspiring strikeforce given that Peckhart has never played in EPL and neither has Dos Santos.

I am not being dismissive of them but they need an experience striker to lead them and help them to continue developing and with Keane and Berbs gone at the same time, two of our best mentors for these young strikers are gone. Like how Naybet was an experience and steadying influence, so does our strikeforce require a mature presence to lead the way with Bent for Dos Santos and Peckhart.

Why should many Spurs fans feel its the end of the world? Arse have turned over many stars, year on year and have never really suffered as a result. Arse did much better the year after Henry left than his final year and Adeyboyor came into is own - a player worth 20m +. Can Ramos not do this and pull a 'team' togther that would do as well if not better than if Keane or Berbs was playing next season?

Exactly, the doom and gloom merchants are doing my head in.

Fucking sickening that people are ruling us out of the top 7/8 already. Think about how strong our defense should be next season. We have a semi-decent keeper, one of the best left-back's in the league, one of the best right-back's in the league, the two best English central defenders around at the moment, all we really need is a defensive midfielder. In theory, we shouldn't need two strikers to be hitting 30+ goals each next season. Any proven striker will do, whether it's Pavlyuchenko and Villa, or at worst it's Bent playing up on his own with GdS in support, we should be easily capable of finishing top-6 without Keane and Berbatov.

What we wont have this season:

a good team??
a team in the top 7?
What we wont have this season:
A reduction in pessimism?

C'mon - one top drawer striker in and bent to hit form and I think we'll do just fine.

Like everyone, ive been feeling really down in the dumps about this, but reading this thread has actually cheered me up a bit. Everyone is always bigging us up or saying how we think we are guaranteed top four, and this time we're not going to have that. What we will have, is a lot of players and fans who should be desperate to prove that no players are bigger than our club, and i for one will strive to get behind every single one of those players next year as they strive to get us back up to where we should be instead of selling themselves out to the big boys.

yes we're going to lose our two talismen, but who cares-fuck them is all i can say (especially Keane) and if we do achieve what is possible this year, ive got a feeling that it will feel a hell of a lot sweeter as a result of this setback

i like it. I would rather have a great midfield and average forwards than the opposite.

What about the back line???

I'd love to see us have an injury free defense this season. Let's keep Hutton, Woody, King and Bale fit for the whole season.

I'm not too worried who we have up front. Whoever it is will get chances. Let's not forget that Ramos has the ability to get the best out of average players. After all, Kanoute wasn't exactly a world beater for us but looked very good at Sevilla.

My fingers are definitely crossed that Woody and King stay fit.

Just imagine losing those two before the start of the season or after a couple of games. That to me would be a worse situation than the thought of losing both Berba and Keane.
