We go unbeaten from our defeat to Arsenal. Conte is fully backed and pulls off eye watering signings who instantly perform we miraculously win the league CL and FA Cup. Kane gets golden boot. Son scores a hatrick in both finals. Conte awarded manager of the season. Richarlison goal of the season. Levy sells up to a trillionaire.

Dreams are much better than reality.

We are pretty much in the same position as we were last year at the half way stage, 5/6 points adrift of top 4 but then we got two quality signings in January that carried us to 4th in the end + Son turning it on for the rest of the season.

We need the same again, 2/3 additions to boost the squad and Son to start firing again. I can't see either of those happening so think top 4 would be a miracle at this stage. Newcastle seem to be grinding out results and Man United are the form team at the minute. Unless we string together 5/6 wins on the bounce soon I don't see us even being close to 4th come the end of the season.

Voted 4th at the start
but realistically, we might just snatch 6th.
We have won 2 of our last 6 games.
The teams just above us or just below all have momentum
Newcastle are unbeaten in 6 and Utd have won their last 6 (and more)
Fulham, Brentford and Brighton have all won 4 of their last 6.
All are within striking distance if our decline continues.
Perhaps a season without Europe might help.

Always look on the bright side of life.....

I still think we'll finish 4th. We're 5th in the league have barely played anything decent for 45 minutes, let alone 90! You could argue it's a sad indictment on the rest of the league that we're as high as 5th, but it's such a mess this year.
City will win it, they'll go on their standard 15 match unbeaten run where they sweep everyone aside.
United will (somehow!) finish 2nd.
Arsenal will finish 3rd; I'm not having them going from bottling 4th to winning the thing in 12 months. They're far too emotional, see the Newcastle game, had vibes of England vs France from the WC, far too much energy expended surrounding the ref and feeling sorry for themselves when things didn't go their way, and that'll amp up when the pressure starts...
Newcastle will regress to the mean. Brighton may be our closest challenger for 4th.

If Leicester can do it anyone can including Arsenal they're in the driving position. All the other teams including Manchester City look way off.

I think we can still get 4th. Newcastle don't look great and the teams below us will struggle to be consistent so 4th is still there to be had.

It was never a squad that was going to be revamped to meet Conte’s requirements in one summer. He said so enough times, but I see people’s memories are being selective again, depending on their mood and our last result.

The irony is, we actually could still have a good season. We still have a lot of games to play, more than usual at this point of the season, and we could very realistically get 4th.

But unless we actually bring in some quality players (and that means more then just Porro) then we have no chance of that happening no matter who is in charge. I think we will have a better idea of what to expect from the second half of this season in the next two weeks.

I really really don't care where we will finish, not because I've given up, but because after seven seasons of CL football, and Levy still not bringing in WC players, it makes no difference, it hasn't led to much improvement except Enics bank account.
I want us to go for the only realistic trophy we can win, the FA cup, I'm done with the obsession of CL which has changed little.
Lets win the cup

FOR US.

At this point I don't even care. I've had the life sucked out of me.

The most important games now are in the FA CUP, in the hope that the stars align, that Hugo and/or our defenders don't shit the bed and that we may do something we haven't done in 32 years - win it.

Even if we do, I wouldn't bet against the goons winning the league to rain on our parade

No one expects the finished article but we're in his 3rd transfer window and he's signed 9 players for the first team squad (although that includes Spence and Forster). It's reasonable to expect us to be a bit further down the line in terms of a clear style of play. He didn't inherit a Championship level squad.

must admit I was taken in by what Conte achieved last season, the summer buys and how we managed to get results without playing well at start of this one believing we would get better. will certainly not achieve top 4 this year which is what i anticipated

now the inadequacies of our squad is being shown up even more because players keep making basic mistakes and those with lack of form taking the whole team backwards

Injuries also contributed to a degree, but god where would we have been if it was Harry had got injured too and we didn't have his goals.

we all knew more investment was needed last summer but boy we need so much now

Levy has a lot to answer for - most people in his position would have been moved on by now. issue starts at the top
