I am assuming he is refusing to sit on the bench if he is not first choice

I dont know why people are so surprised that he is 3rd choice right now.

Look at the evidence. Gomes does badly towards the end of the season, committing numerous individual errors, gets injured/dropped.

Cudicini comes in and looks a safer pair of hands in the last 4-5 games of the season. Friedel is then brought in and looks solid so far.

Gomes cant really have any complaints, the other two have shown better form recently, if anything Cudicini has more to complain about rather than Gomes based on the form at the back-end of the season.

He's just going to have to patient and take his chance if and when he gets it.

While I don't agree with any of this, Gomes was in goal away to Hearts with Friedel on the bench, indicating that he's atleast ahead of Cudicini. The next week Gomes finds himself on the bench with Friedel as Harry's 1st choice, obviously there's been a falling out since and Gomes doesn't want any part of this nonsense.

Yeah and there was rumours of us selling Cudicini!?!?
Where would that have left us?

Cudicini is wank. The only real problem with Gomes last season was confidence, in my opinion. And he might flap at a cross, occasionally, but at least he would come for it.

I dont understand what thats got to do with anything.

There were rumours we were going to sign (insert wildly optimistic player name here), doesnt mean it was ever going to happen.

Pretty big problem to have though.

I think Gomes is a better keeper than Cudicini, but on recent form he is below him in the pecking order IMO, whether Gomes and Harry have now had a falling out I dont know but on form I dont think Gomes can have too many complaints.

Gomes has all the physical and technical attributes to be a world class keeper - however he doesnt have the mentality as he has proven many times. He is a goalkeeper version of Titus Bramble. I am much happier with Friedel in goal - he is proving those who ridiculed his signing wrong although he is clearly not a long term option.

I lost my patience with Gomes after the Chav game last December but I feel that he doesn't have the trust of the manager and knows it. I worry that there was a "Sandragate" moment or two (albeit behind closed doors) last season. Lots of players are confidence players (even Adebayor, according to Wenger) and that's where man management comes in, I suppose. Unfortunately for keepers, they don't have anyone to hide behind but look at the way that that wily old fox Ferguson is shielding De Gea from the media's bullshit.

I can't help but feel that Gomes has been unfairly targeted by the media. I know he's dropped some awful clangers but I see keepers making retarded mistakes all the time.

Sad though that we do not have a motivator or a special trainer to help and assist our GK. Robinson went through a similar patch and we just sold him.
Apparently, James consulted a specialist to help him

Watching him save a penalty and then give another away seconds later must have strained Harry's sense of humour somewhat.

Gomes' problem is that he tends to drop his clangers all in a row which makes him look like a clown in the media whereas if you do space it out (like Reina used to) then the media don't get on your back.

Most importantly though I think Gomes lost the trust of his defence. After playing with him for two years they simply didn't know what he was going to do and although Friedel may not be the better keeper when they are both at their best, he is definitely the most consistent and I think that will help the defenders.

I'd love Gomes to get back to his best but the fact is he was costing us more than he was gaining us last season and he had to be dropped. Friedel gives him competition and hopefully an impetus to improve his concentration.

In the meantime I hope we're looking for a long term solution.

Well it was one in a long line of terrible boobs. But it doesn't change the fact that he was outstanding the season before. And soon he'll be able to leave for nothing. It's a terrible situation.
