What's new

Which manager appointed to the spurs hot seat was the last to leave you feeling genuinely excited?

To be fair I did mention the term 'Raincoat'. But only in a negative sense :pompous:

Butros Butros George Graham.
It really was Sugar's last throw of the dice wasn't it. To be fair, we did win the league cup under him so he actually counts as one of our most successful managers in recent times!

AVB. Don't know why - cos I actually enjoyed his failure at Chelsea but then when linked with us I started to look beyond that and thought he'd bring the football he was known for at Porto with him and attract loads of big names and it was the likes of Terry and Lampard to blame for the Chelsea fiasco. Didn't really pan out though did it.

I'll support whoever the new guy is but I won't have anywhere near the excitement I had for AVB. No matter who it could have been - LVG, Ancelloti, Poch, FdB, Tuchel

AVB just had me by the balls for some reason
Maybe it will be for the best if people don't get too excited about the next appointment.

I was quite excited about AVB's appointment and his analytical approach to the game and was also hoping that he would use the Chelsea experience as a motivation to succeed. I must confess to finding his tactics a bit underwhelming and he was a bit stubborn in his approach but he might have succeeded if he had been granted more time. I've seen people accuse him of being a fraud, which I can't quite understand as it's not like he set out to deliberately fail. I must admit that I don't miss his inverted wingers much though!

Good old Pleat. He's always good for a bit of emergency cover.

I actually was incredibly happy with the appointment of Redknapp. I had grown tired of Ramos' strange lineups and lack of English. I'd also tired of the DOF situation. In one fell swoop we got the complete opposite of all that. Someone who could bring some sense to proceedings and give the team freedom to play. Just had a good feeling. That said by the end I was happy for him to leave such was my annoyance at some of his actions.

I certainly got swept up in the romance of AVB proving Chelsea wrong and replicating his success at Porto, and was very happy with his first season.

I also really like the sound of Pochettino and think he could combine the best of both of the above managers. I just hope he doesn't suffer the same fate if he comes in, although that would probably say more about spurs than them...

I've never been too down about any appointment during the Levy reign. I was very optimistic about Ramos and AVB and the others felt like the right choices for the time (well, apart from Tim).

The only new appointment to ever get me truly off my rocker excited though is Pocchetino. He's the one I wanted from the start and I just cannot wait to see what he does with this team.

I had a lot of faith in Andre.

Aside from that, no one. I thought Harry was going to take us down.

It sounds harsh but I'm never really that excited by any manager when they take over. It's not that I'm pessimistic, it's just that I would like to wait and see how things unfold before I can truly get behind them. There's good and bad in a lot of managers, particularly the level we can attract.

Ramos had done very well with Sevilla but I was worried whether he could take on the EPL. Redknapp left me with mixed feelings as he's often known to be more of a player motivator rather than a tactical genius. AVB had failed at Chelsea but had a great CV otherwise for his age, and his Porto team was outstanding. Now it's a toss up between Poch and FdB. The latter has no Prem experience, but has a great reputation in football, the former has the experience but I'm just not sure whether he's going to take us any further.

Edit: I'm more excited by players when they joined, which is a right fucker as that tends to lead to disappointment. Disappointment in the short run when they just don't work out, and disappointment in the long run when Real Madrid poach them. :shifty:

You sound pretty confident he is our next manager. I'd love that to be the case, but is there something I've missed? I'm just saying because the last few days have been really strange in terms of ITK/News. I was almost convinced he's hired two days ago, but now the cynical Spurs supporter in me is conjuring up all sorts of shocking scenarios in my head (none of which are pleasant).

I am just ready to have a name released by the OS. Anticipation truly sucks.

As far as the topic at hand, I was most excited about AVB. I really believed (and still do) that he could've accomplished great things with us ((had he been provided adequate support, time, and resources)).
But that's neither here nor there ATM.

I'll be pretty shocked if he's not our next manager. The sources I trust all saying the same thing and just a lot of other stuff added up. I'm sufficiently convinced. Only way I see it not happening is if he does a last minute u-turn and turns us down.

I really thought AVB was in the for the long-run and would build a philosophy through the club (like, funnily-enough, Ajax). Fuck me I was wrong...
