Which manager appointed to the spurs hot seat was the last to leave you feeling genuinely excited?

I was genuinely excited by Ramos. That Sevilla team was exceptional.

It was, but that was fuck all to do with Juanque. In fact, they only beat us in the UEFA Cup because of a couple of pisspoor refereeing decisions in the away leg and Steed, Chimbonda and Zokora gifting them goals at the Lane.

I was less than whelmed by Juanque, because his record prior to Sevilla had been 10 years of mediocrity or worse.

It's not fair to say their success had nothing to do with him. Yes, he had a very good sporting director getting him some very good players, but they had a style of play which was buccaneering and refreshing.

His record prior, was a worry, but some managers need time to grow. In the end it just shows how different clubs need different personalities at different times to click.

I think we all would love to see ex Spurs players doing great things for us in mangement so it was exciing when Hoddle and Ardiles were appointed but in both cases they were pretty dismal at the job. And Sherwood of course. I suspect the same outcome if we appointed Klinsmann. I always thought Perryman could have done a decent job but I remember in the few games he had as acting manager he was about as successful as Clive Allen was ! The only exception apart from the obvious Bil Nick was Venables who did a pretty good job . But then he had a pedigree of successful management of Palace, QPR , Barcelona and England where he was successful each time. . Venables as a player for us was about as popular as Jermaine Jenas so maybe we should appoint Jenas. Or the Rose - Sigurdsson dream team.

Being truthful, in the ENIC era the two managers that have had me most excited when they joined were Ramos and AVB, due to the glowing media profiles of the two men before they joined Spurs. And I ended up being very disappointed with how the reality matched up to the sales pitch with both of them.

I was also underwhelmed at the appointments of Jol and Redknapp, and they have turned out to be the two managers whose tenures I enjoyed the most under ENIC.

So I guess what I'm saying is that I don't know my arse from my elbow at the time a manager is appointed.

(Slight preference for Pochettino this time round, btw.)

Tim Sherwood

Least excited about Ramos and Villas-Boas, mainly due to who they replaced

AVB - I really believed our time had come when he was appointed and still think, given time, he'd have got it right. Makes me quite sad how it ended really.

It's funny all these "AVB...I thought he was the second coming...he renewed my faith in humanity..."-posts. I felt exactly the opposite when he was appointed- i.e., I felt physically ill, especially on the back of Redknapp- whom I loved managing us- having just been fired. If it sounds like I had some kind of crystal ball then so be it; I knew from the first second he got hired that it was going to be an absolute fucking disaster, and every day he was with us was torture. Why? Because even when we were winning I knew it was in spite of- rather than because of- him.

Indeed, AVB's tenure with us- including football so boring and turgid that it made me reconsider liking the sport itself- did lasting damage to me as a Spurs fan, such that I almost don't care about what happens to us in the future. That man and, by extension, Daniel Levy have pretty much ruined me as far as Spurs-excitement goes. I literally have PTSD from these past two seasons.

santini, sad as it seems now to say. Was on an all dayer and attempting to play pool when about 7pm the news broke on ssn in the pub. Me and my fellow yid danced jigs of delight. I was trying every excuse possible during the euros as France were poor. Soon realised he wasn't going to work after the home 0 0 with Norwich. The excitement was very short lived

i don't get excited for managers since this, i just hope and pray

AVB for me. When I first heard he was in the running I couldn't see why, but it was at this time that I had recently joined a football forum.
After reading some very positive posts about his philosophy etc I was well and truly on the band wagon.

Now I'm reading similar posts about MoPo and FDB, I really have no idea who should take charge.
