My missus is constantly complaining that football rules our lives - she keeps going on about how all our family time and social engagements are arranged around game times on weekends and midweek. Every time I want to sit and watch a game with a beer she tries to start a 'conversation.' To be honest it's driving me a bit mad.

Any advice appreciated.

When you're scheduling your weekends, plan out preferably time before the game where you'll spend time with her/suffer her nonsense so she's had her fill or make sure she knows the plan after the game that it's date night or whatever. If you're specifically showing you're making an effort to spend time with her then she will have little argument when you wanna sit down and enjoy the game.

Alternatively, find a girlfriend who's dad was a season ticket holder at a club so she's grown up with it ingrained, my mrs dad and brother have season tickets for Gillingham so she knows the score when football is on.

This story could easily have been written by my wife.
She’s booked for a Caesarean on the 31st and the conversations around me attending the final have been frequent in my house. That said, I won’t be going. BITCH!

24 and having a kid probably getting married soon then. Thoughts and prayers to that lad. Give your man a break, mam. His life is very much over.

So he's working extra shifts and putting in overtime to try and make some money to provide for her and the baby, is probably terrified at the prospect of having to provide for a family at such a young age, and as a way of trying to take his mind of the pressures and stresses he watches the football on a weekend with his mates? How horrible of him.

On top of that, she's done the classic move of "Yes of course you can go it's a once-in-a-lifetime occassion I wouldn't dream of stopping you!"......*proceeds to tell all her friends and random people who read the Sun how selfish and and horrible he is for going to Madrid*

She sounds like a real keeper....

No girlfriend problem at all for me. The two of us actually grew.

Watched it together and it was the first time I’ve ever witnessed her truly ‘get it’.

After the first goal I saw a change in her eyes. The second, she grabbed my wrist and bellowed, “ Come on you fucking Spurs!!”.

We were bouncing around like a couple of right twats when Lucas scored, I cried and then she rocked me to sleep, like the big baby I am, whispering sweet nothings.

Never felt closer.

She’s hiding something. Possibly a penis.

I get this all the time.

I simply said - Spurs comes first, it has always been with me since I was a child and has never left me. It is my passion and my heart. Deal with it

Hmmmmmm, me thinks Deidre is making stories up once again...

Been a season ticket holder for 15 years, does every home and away game yet doesn’t have enough loyalty points for Ajax?

I call bullshit!!!

Y'gotta sell the footie right imo . My missus watches the games with me ,can name the team , knows what Billy Nick looks like and can identify Jimmy Greaves (but still misses Berbs)

Details of the offside rule , probably best left for later . But extra stuff e.g. Malbranque's penis enlargement...or Zokora endlessly crashing his ferrari...Lloris 10 times over the limit etc etc, Eriksen's hair transplant . All the players and their wives g/fs/kids after last match the other day played well too . Levy sitting there with his bored wife/daughter/son who drew the short straw this week ?

I've found it effective to point out all the misdemeanours of the oppo during the matches . Gets a nice feeling of outrage about
fairness going out of the window against our brave lads ...sympathy for our innocents being cheated by unscrupulous refs/oppo plays well .

Pochettino wears a black shirt/tie if its an evening match , but not for a daytime one. This kinda stuff goes in and draws in the female mind . The lads interviewed works to familiarise . Poch sobbing in interview , that worked alright...!

Guess I'm saying overall , humanise the team , real people in difficult/great situations . Spurs as soap opera , not too hard to imagine eh !

I've said it before, my husband is a lucky man having a wife who loves Spurs as much as he does! It makes life a lot easier!

Doherty?! You should name him after the wing wizard who brightened the day of many Spurs fans in the 90s with his silky runs down the wing. More children should be named after Jose Dominguez.

Personally I'd go with the name Paolo! A brilliant Left-Back with even better hair ?

my wife follows Ipswich (a family thing) and tells me I love Spurs more than her, because I won't take her to a game

too bloody right I won't, the times we have been winning and she walks in, and we have been lucky to nick a draw. just some examples, no dates though

Fulham winning 2-0 at craven cottage lose 3-2
10 man Man C 3-0 up, lost 4-3
Leicester same season I think 4-3
Arsenal & Man U (Defoe overhead) both 1-1 scored in dying seconds
Arsenal away 2-0 up lose 5-2
Burnley final game 2-0 lose 3-2

and we are talking about goals the second she enters the room. the weird thing is if we are losing she has been a help on a few occasions, I know we lost 4-3 but was 4-0 down to Inter, had no choice when we beat Wet Spam (Sisters 60th) but the minute I got in the car we went 1-0 down, I gave all the credit to the other yids at the meal:cautious:, but she did help recently 3-0 on agg and I thought I'd see if a reverse was on the cards, and we did scrap into the Final.

trouble is she is working on the 1st, so I can't try it out for help:(

You sir are a genius.

But I know first hand that Levy Jr is mental about Spurs.

To be fair to my partner, she’s been pretty bloody understanding recently. Not only is she due on 16th June, and we also have a 3 year old, she watches ALL the Spurs games with me, and I’ve only just got back from being in Woodstock for two weeks. My birthday is June 3rd, she was planning a night out with all my friends for 1st June - but I’ve asked her to cancel that due to the football. So yeah, she’s been pretty bloody cool with it all. . . . . I think she’s more concerned how I’ll react if we lose... And yeah, I did ask if we could call the new arrival Moura, we’re expecting a girl. That one was a no, though.
