All, however all things considered it has to be Harry Kane.

Kane has developed so much so quickly we've actually taken him for granted....(in a good way)

He only played 7 games in CM/DM for Sporting.

Don't know stats precisely, he only started about 20 times for Sporting (plus about 10 off the bench) so the precise number was never going to be large.

However he did play DM in Sporting v Benfica which would be one of the biggest matches in Portugese football, and suggests the coaches there were very comfortable in Dier playing him as DM to feature in that match.

The post I replied to suggested that Dier playing DM was down to Poch development, which is not completely correct as he played there for Sporting.

Based on improved at Spurs I've gone for Lamela, although to be fair improving him wasn't that hard!

I personally think Dembele is back to the level he was with us when he first joined. His form dipped badly and is now back to what we know he is capable of.

Sorry, haven't read the whole thread as I am at work in Aus, but how isn't Dier winning this with daylight second?

All I'd say about Dembele is that he is back to the player he was at Fulham and that first half of a season with Sandro, before injuries and confidence got to him. Having said that the thread says "under Pochettino". Exactly the same could be said of Lamela, ie Poch is getting him to perform on a par he did in Italy.

For a lot of the players, Poch has recognised the skill levels and gotten the players to believe in themselves.

As already stated its difficult to find any player who hasn't improved.

Bentaleb

After looking so promising he's really regressed. Too much, too soon?

The injury has probably had a big effect on him. He needs to kick on now though as there are going to be other talented youngsters overtaking him.

Yeah he has. Injuries mitigate somewhat. But the last few times he's played Poch has been in his ear each time the games stopped giving him instructions. He's trying to teach him the Dier role I guess & that may take some time as it's a different role to that he's previously played. It took Davies a full season & Trippier half a season to work out what Poch wanted at fullback & they already played the role.

Demebele has gone from a 6.5/10 player to a 9/10 player.
The player himself hasn't changed, his strengths are still being a battering-ram sized moose who holds the ball. Now he is da boss.

He'd made almost 100 starts for us prior to this season. He had plenty of opportunity over the previous three years to show his quality, but he never took it until this season, under Pochettino. How much of that is Pochettino's work is impossible to know, but given that he'd never played consistently well under any of his previous managers it seems fair to give the manager a lot of the credit.

I'm not saying he's not improved at all, just no-where near as much as others for example, and especially someone like Kane.

Dembele, Rose and Lamela for me have all got a big enough sample set of games to judge pre and post Poch and the step up especially this season for all of them is massive in terms of their effectiveness and consistency. Hard to judge Dier and Kane as they may well have had v high ceilings under other managers but doubt Dier would have got a shot at DM under say tactics Tim

Honestly think Dembele is far above his 1st half of the first season performances this year mainly because he is much more consistent - doing it week in week out and also he is looking up and playing more killer balls or even shooting and getting vital goals which even when he started for us he wasn't even if he was much more effective at gliding past players than he was post injury

Under Sherwood, Dier would have played winger, false 9 and midfielder. Perhaps even in the same match.

Just to clarify for those who think Dier or Alli should be in the poll, my OP was more about the players who, pre Pochettino, had either underperformed or divided opinion.

I left 3 or 4 posts saying defo not Dembele has to be Kane as an experiment to see how many votes Dembele would get and now he's up to 190, I actually cant believe that worked lol.
