Vertonghen or any other new signing should have a season in the team before becoming captain. We are not about to sign some superstar captain material player and we have no idea how Vertonghen will perform in the Prem, let him settle before you all burden him with the captaincy as well.

If Modric stayed that might change things for me, but this is off the assumption he leaves for Real Madrid or such like.

For me it has to be Kaboul. Hes becoming a leader and is a guaranteed starter

The likes of Daws, Parker and VDV have all the qualities to lead but i don't know if they will start regularly under AVB

Yeah, as per my first post in the thread (I think), I suspect Verts could well be captain material (or one of the othre incomings), so anything we say now could be altered by the start of the season.

Got to be someone who backs the new manager fully and understands the system.

Several of current players who should be in the running (Parker, VdV, Dawson, Friedel) are not guaranteed starters, so wouldn't be surprised if AvB isn't looking to bring one in - and the main candidate to me is Vertonghen. If not then Bale
