I don't understand why so many of you want Barry ?

What position would he improve ?

Compare his stats to Jenas:

------------------------Jenas-------Barry

minutes per tackle-------38----------34
minutes per pass--------1.9----------2.8
minutes per goal---------822---------470
minutes per assist--------616--------658

I've highlighted in bold the better stat. Jenas is two years younger as well. Those stats don't scream vast improvement do they ?

Barry would have been a good signing 3 or 4 years ago, but now ? We must be aiming higher. Barry just doesn't pass well enough or get round the pitch as well as Jenas.

and yet rated far higher by anybody who has an opinion that matters ....... strange indeed.

.

Barry's goal scoring record counts for shit. He's Villa's penalty taker. His reputation as a goal scoring midfielder is a bit of a myth. At a glance it seems he's scored a decent 5 goals this season, but 4 have been pens. That means he's scored 1 goal in 3294 mins. Last season 5, of his impressive 9 goal tally, were from the spot. Meaning he scored once every 830 mins from open play. This season JJ has scored every 616 mins and every 617 mins last season.

Jose Mourinho seemed to prefer Jenas by all accounts. Appears I'm in a minority of at least 2.

based on what ....... the fact Mourinho picked him for his fantasy league team?, as that is the only true verifiable fact that has emerged from the Jenas to IM myth. The rest is rumour and speculation.

barry instead of jenas would be a big improvement
not saying we should sell him as he has had a few good games this season but simply barry is a better player so will improve the central midfield
also need a good tall striker to replace bent
and a left winger wont go a miss seeing as we aint had one since ginola left 10 years ago !

Jenas is meant to be a box to box attacking midfielder, his goal return is piss poor.
Barry is a holding player and his prime reason for being selected is not to score goals but to break up play and start moving the play forward.

Jenas also achieves his mainly superior stats playing in a CM 2 as opposed to the CM3 that Barry often plays in.

good info Joey

so on the stats Barry is no improvement on JJ (a good penalty taker is always useful, but GB might not even get the job) plus n0-one doubts (I assume) that JJ covers more ground

I'd like Barry to join of course, but then again I wanted Barry when he wasa available years ago and various sages on here and elsewhere were looking down their nose at thim

You want Jenas to be box to box, attacking and goal scoring? Stick a lawnmower handle up his arse and he'll keep the pitch sweet while he's at it! :)

He plays is a deeper role for England, but for Villa he plays as more of a box to box player. If we bought Barry and played him in the role he plays for England, then surely JJ is the only viable partner for him.

In support of the argument that Barry is more suited to a 3 man CM is that Villa have played with one 13 times this season and taken 30 points. Yet in the 24 games where they've played 442 they've only won 29 points. So it seems Villa are significantly better when they play 3 in the middle.
