I started this thread after the pathetic performance in the League Cup final because I was so disillusioned with the club and with the players.
Less than one month on and unbelievably it's worse now.
Our players are either mid table quality in the main, couldn't care less or both and I'm leaning towards both.
Last night was a must win game for Europa League against a team that has nothing to play for and it looked like a pre season friendly we were that poor / unmotivated.
Most of the players couldn't even be bothered doing a lap of honour, wtf is that?!?
I am not blaming this mess on Mason but yesterday was unforgivable that he didn't make a substitution until the 72th minute despite the fact he was watching probably our worst performance of the season.
Our fans were that annoyed that the actually booed the team off at half time and full time which shows exactly how they are feeling about everything. Most had waited a year to see the team play and were so let down they actually booed.
The fans were put right up top in the stadium so the sponsors banners could be visible on TV instead of the fans.
Oh yea and the fans were charged 60 for the privilege which is more than double what most other clubs were charging.

I thought things were bad previously but we are now absolutely toxic with our home grown world class striker wanting out and who could blame him.

I don't even know what else to say....my club is broken.
It will get worse I'm afraid the club is in the shit long way back, crowing glory allowing west ham to finish above us pathetic.

First we need to play the LC game and see where we are once all the results are in-we win others draw or lose-its not all bad and we can salvage something form the season.

Lose and others win then we need to face reality. We are shite.

To see Arsenal and WHU above us at the end of the season will be so heart breaking its sad. Its very sad to see this squad disintegrate in this manner. You get what you deserve and at the moment we deserve shite.

Life goes on and the club will bounce back and be better for it, Im certain of that.

When I look at other teams play they have a system, a plan, a way of playing even if it's give it to Freakish. I see them all know what to do where to go and what to expect even when a defender gets the ball he expects there to be a teammate in a certain area as his out ball. I see all these things and more to some extent or other but when I watch us I don't see it, I see defenders looking for somewhere to kick it, I see midfielders looking for someone to give it to, looking for someone moving where he'd expect and I see forwards wondering what defenders and midfielders are going to do with it hoping it comes to them.
We have to appoint a coach who will address this, these players need that drilling, that formality as they're not individually gifted enough to manage without it and the better players (hopefully) that we replace them with will benefit from it too.
We cannot continue as a group of players we have to get back to being a team.

The spine of the team is broken.

I think Lloris and Alderweireld have been great servants but have been on the decline since the CL final season. That was when this team as a whole was a year past its peak and on the way down. Eriksen knew which is why he wanted out. Dembele was broken. Kane has been carrying us since then. Now looks like it’ll be a major task to re-energise and re-focus him.

The answer is a major overhaul. The new manager is key. Then recruitment is essential. That manager needs to assess this squad and be given serious cash to buy a new spine with great players.

We have a lot of talent that can improve, the likes of Tanganga, Rodon, Reguilon, Skipp, Sessegnon, Bergwijn, Ndombele and Lo Celso are all young and all have a lot to offer.

Winks, Dier, Sanchez, Sissoko, Aurier, Moura, Lamela etc. are all simply not good enough.

Son and Dele - the new manager needs to quickly work out if their hearts are in it or if they’ve gone stale too.

Højbjerg can be part of that spine but worryingly he’s looked a fraud the last few months, bottling tackles and waving arms like Steffen Freund.

But first major task is we need to replace that spine of Lloris, Toby/Verts, Dembele, Eriksen, Kane.

End of an era.

Saw the title of this thread and all that came into my mind was I can’t change teams so looks like stronger pain killers.

Major overhaul is correct...pretty much what Poch said 3 years. Not so daft was he.

Realistically I can't see how 10 players can be sold and then replaced in a single transfer window. This should have started the year Poch left.

Honestly, unless a miracle takes place, we’re going to be in a very similar situation or worse come the end of next season. This is no easy fix.

Its a mess. Clearing the decks, freshening up the squad and a strong manager are the least of actions required. A year out of Europe may actually help us sort things out - although I'm not sure that an ambitious manager would find that too attractive.

Anyway it's a fucking depressing mess.

Not sure they all need replacing, our squad is bloated (admittedly with a lot of dross) & needs trimming anyway.

As I've said in other threads, the 2008 League Cup winning team spear headed by Berbatov and Keane was pretty much totally replaced (inc. manager) in two years (when the Modric/Bale era arrived) and we qualified for the CL for the first time.

And then two years after the "Taxi for Maicon night" we had totally disbanded and rebuilt with the Poch era.

Things can change quite quickly.

As somebody said elsewhere it is the Outs that are as interesting as the 1 or 2 additions.
On paper it is going to be our busiest Summer ever.

He said a painful rebuild was required.

It's already extremely painful, and we haven't even started the rebuild yet...

A lot of it depends on the new manager/coach/DOF.

But there are some obvious candidates to leave for me. Dier, Winks, Sissoko & Dele have to be moved on there players are not good enough and I think the fans want them moved on. There are others as well but they need to be the focus IMO.

We need the players to be coached, we need a real identity forgot our individual quality that shines one game in ten. We need to see a style, whether that's possession or press based doesn't matter but we need direction.

We need players brought in for big money for us to start to perform, this will fall under coaching as well but Reguillon, Ndombele, Lo Celso & Bergwijn all have talent but none of them have performed other than brief periods. This means we are still being carried by Kane and Son for large parts of the season, these players cost big bucks, they have talent, they need to show it consistently.

We need to introduce some of our younger and maybe homegrown players into the team, there is a disconnect with the squad and fans let's blood Japh, Rodon & Skipp for a start.

Finally we need solid recruitment, we need to address our weakness as a squad and bring in players to benefit the group. Obvious areas being CB, RB, CM and another forward. But let's look to promising youth in terms of other squad places there is talent out there let's go back to what made us successful, bringing in young talent and working with them.

Finally there needs to be work done from Levy to try and mend the relationship with the fans, he won't sell. Bringing in a DOF would he a great start, show he recognises his strengths lie elsewhere and let someone else oversee the footballing side whilst he does what he does best in building our brand and portfolio.

Your last sentence sums it up to me and is something i've been thinking about since last night.

Out with the old and in with the new and if that means selling Kane then so be it.

We need to purge the last of the Poch era and start a new era and in the current financial climate it needs to be funded by outgoings.

A new coach with fresh ideas with enthusiasm to bring through the youth and make the team their own.

This season's been shiiiite but there always next year. New manager, new ideas and we could be competitive again. There so many examples of this without a total overhaul. We've got players we just need to get a cohesive plan to maximise their abilities. Forget this season it's done.
