Always wondered why we as a club are so hated by so many teams in england. I got a few wind up messages from my Chelsea friend last night who sent me videos of him at the Boro game. Literally every song Chelsea sing is Anti Spurs. Now i know we were both in a title race, so obviously banter will be rife at the moment but this is pretty much a weekly occurance with Chelsea fans. They are always singing about Tottenham and despite Fulham being their closest rivals in terms of distance, we are much more hated. Arsenal obviously being our North London rivals is another team. Westham are obsessed and hate us with a passion. They only ever raise their game against us and their fans treat a win against us like a cup final. We get Anti semitic abuse from both the chavs and Westham. We are hated by Southampton for some weird reason and i think this stems back to when we got Glenn Hoddle of them. We contunue to pinch their best assets and i think they just don't like us because of this. Leicester City another club even before their title win couldn't stand us and one look at that foxes forum, you can see the general hatred they have towards us. What is with Spurs and why so many people hate us? United under Fergie were hated because people were jealous of their success and Fergie as much of a legend as he is, wasn;t a very likable character. Spurs don't win anything so it can't be this so why are we so hated? Why do we get so much stick by rival supporters?

Because they think that Spurs fans think we are better than we are without the trophies to back it up.

The Southampton one makes me laugh. We took Pochettino, fair enough, but they don't seem as bothered by Liverpool who took Clyne, Lovren, Mane, Lallana and Lambert. The Chelsea/Fulham one doesn't matter since they aren't rivals - I have a soft spot for Leyton Orient since it's the closest to where I was born.

What @DEFchenkOE said.
Essentially, unless you talk to fans from the 1960's/80's, Spurs have been inconsistent, a cup team at best. Most fans now, especially online are Premier League era fans and Tottenham are not considered a top team, yet us as fans have been "passionate/guilty" of living off our past and wanting to be treated as such by other fans.

That's just not how it works. We laugh at Liverpool's increasing irrelevances, and yes, RAWK is one very good example of the delusion, but are we any better? I like to think that on SC we are are a pretty moderate lot, knowing our weaknesses, but valid in praising our strengths. But other sites/certain fans do go full RAWK and we have next to nothing trophy wise in the EPL era to warrant it.

This simply will not change until we win more trophies. 2nd gets you a pat on the back, but sticking a couple of fingers up at Arsenal and Man Utd etc, earns us nothing but contempt amongst the majority of fans who are, a little frustrated at not being better than us, but who can "rightly" say "yeah but where are your trophies?".

I for one am extatic at how we are progressing, but I will do my utmost to remain humble, because 2nd is no trophy, no FA Cup, it's just a bloody good season. Reasons to be proud, but not to brag (not that I am a massive fan of bragging, but without silverware its worse!).

Take it as a back handed compliment and respect. If they didn't think of us as a threat or grudgingly like our style of play, we wouldn't hear a peep!

Think they are more bitter at the past than they are about Poch, Poch is just a small stick in comparison to how salty they are about other players and managers (Hoddle & Richards for example).

Again, S'hampton fans won't be happy to lose their top players, but most will still say that Liverpool is a step up (recent-ish historically speaking), where as for a while we would have been seen as a mid to upper table team who Southampton want to compete against. So you get a "why Spurs?" Mentality forming, "what have they ever done?", etc...

Our trophy haul as a club is abysmal over the last 30-35 years. We want to be considered as a big club but our league positions and trophies just don't match up. Just in terms of total trophies won compared to the other current top 5 I'd hate to see the numbers but I think we have 3. The others all have league/European titles to their names whereas we have 2 league cups and an fa cup.

Not dismissing your question because it's valid but...

Does it matter if we are hated? I think everyone hates everyone it's football.

Yes this is one I keep hearing too, especially from West Ham fans. It has got to be one of the most inaccurate views from other fans that I have ever come across. We have some of the most self deprecating fans I know, we are pessimistic, and we are honest enough to admit our failures, and we frequently voice our own shortcomings and will continue to do so, if they really knew us they would quickly realise that we certainly do not think we are better than we are, we are our own worst critics.

There are many non-Chelsea fans out there who are completely deluded and they need to take a serious look at themselves and question their own views and values when they openly state they would much rather Chelsea win the Premier League than us. I could understand why non Spurs fans wanted Leicester to win the league last year in preference to us, but trying to be objective, how can non Chelsea fans be taken seriously when they express preferences to a club like Chelsea over ours, when there have been so many examples of some Chelsea fans, previous managers, and owners have who have courted numerous examples of controversy and have displayed many examples of detestable behaviour, far too many to mention here.

We're constantly in that middle ground of encroaching on the top four yet also 'best of the rest' so fans of top four clubs laugh at our ambition (how dare we challenge them) yet fans of other teams compare themselves to us and say that we're no better than them.

Always better to be hated than pitied ;)

People don't like the status quo to be upset. They've made their peace with Chelsea and City becoming successful, but when someone new comes along they can't wait for them to be toppled

Amongst fans who support other London teams, we seem to be universally and collectively disliked more than any other London club. Again I'm trying to be objective, and I don't really think we deserve this tag, if I'm being honest and objective that honour should really go to Chelsea by a country mile and then some.......

Go on a few other Spurs forums, there are a load of billy big bollocks load mouths. Some of it is RAWK level cringe
