Why is Commoli not being axed too?

Okay I am post whoring today but this is the last one.

Jol accused the board/Commoli of not spending money on players they will not be able to sell off long term.

They didn't want to shell out 7 million for a 30 year old that could give us 3 good seasons and go for peanuts.

So Jol has been forced to use untried players this season. And not because of of injury. It was because our squad is predominantly full of kids.

So why has Commoli survived the cull? He has not been sensational by any stretch and deserves partial blame for our unbalanced squad.

In June 2005 World Soccer Magazine's top technical directors in the world list went
1st Frank Arnesen, Tottenham.
2nd Klaus Allofs, Werder Bremen.
3rd Damien Comolli, St Etienne
4th Martin Van Geel, AZ.
5th Pantaleo Corvino, Leece.
6th Ramon 'Monchi' Rodriguez, Seville.

Like him or loathe him, Levy ain't gonna get rid of Comolli

Because he's not a coach. I think it's largely as simple as that.

He's good at what he does, so he needn't be sacked.

He deserves all the blame for this squad. And it will become even more apparent when Juande has to vet the entire team to build his preferred system.

But as much as I hate Comolli, he must give the best blow jobs to Levy. Because he is untouchable.

Totally agree.

Is he though?

He's unearthed such unique talents as Hossam Ghaly and Danny Murphy I admit but he's not really produced a great squad has he?

Admittedly I'm particularly against him as he replaced Carrick with Zokora but I genuinely think that Comolli is as much to blame for the current state of the team as Jol was.

Well, we don't know exactly what it is that he does, or rather what he has done and how important he is and has been. As I've said before though, I trust that with him staying on it means he's good enough to do so.

although he signed Taarabt, Boateng, Pekhart, etc ..

but signing Bent was big mistake for that price and that's enough to sack him or changing his role to 'Scouting cheif' ..

but the problem, DL won't read this and will never considering sacking as Comolli 'untouchable' at this club ..

SK will be unhappy with this thread btw

Much the same as was said about Chris Hughton until last night.

That said, I'd be surprised if Levy will replace him any time soon.

I can say this without fear of getting the person into trouble.

We signed Bent in the summer because everyone in the club expected Defoe to leave, only for JD to change his mind at the last minute. Therefore, signing Bent made sense.

This info was from Chris Hughton.

Comolli has sourced players with potential, it's clear to me that Jol is the one who has failed to get the best out of players who are capable on paper.

Bent is top top class & is leagues above Defoe in every department imo.

Defoe has been a hinderance on Bent this season because rotating and keeping 4 strikers happy & sharp is so so so much harder than doing it with 3.

Not from me. I don't think it would have made much sense to sack the head coach, but keep the assistant coach. We need a new coaching set up completely.

I am so sick of hearing this. Why can't you at least give him one full fucking season at least to prove himself before you say he's not worth how much we paid for him.

I suspect the fact that Comolli is Levy's little pet is at the core of this mess.

And I expect that when this all comes out in the wash Comolli and Levy's interference in team matters will be shown to have been more destructive than anything BMJ did.

Comolli is responsible for the academy, medical, secretarial and scouting departments. MJ, Comolli, Levy (and i think Alexander) are the people that signed off on transfers. Jol 'chose his own buys'. If the player was a no go and any subsequent player down Jol's shopping list was a no go, Comolli used his contacts, official and non-official, to get Jol back a list of possible targets befitting the requisite description. If Jol took a shine to any of them, we went from there. Then you can equate in the fact that Jol had the power to veto. There is no way Jol didn't have a decisive say in any transfer. Comolli's main input with regards to signings are the young prospect, academy ones. The Pekharts et al. Of course you'll get posters trying to bend facts in any possible way to make a case for Jol having players he didn't want.

A lot of people seem to think Comolli's one and only job is to buy first team players. Comolli's responsibilities encompass many aspects of the club's running and his involvement in senior team transfers is largely a supervisory one.

I'll just keep posting this until the lemmings get it drilled into their thick skulls. I think a lot of people just need to learn what a DOF actually is and go from there...

If Ramos is coming Comolli is already clearing his desk. Rodriguez and Ramos though may not be immediate, will be the eventual set up. The departure of Houghton and Segers says the discussions/plans of 'future set up' were done and dusted. Sincerely doubt Comolli has had much of a role in this or will have much in the way of a future.
