Why is Robbo suddenly disposable?

yesterday was terrible all round - but certainly it convinced me more than ever we have to get a new keeper

and yes robbo wasn't the worst yesterday - maybe woody or berbs was - but they've got more credit in my spurs bank than robbo :)

Not being funny but what's a keeper coach going to do to correct such basic errors? I agree we should have one, just because, well, we should, but are you seriously suggesting that Robbo doesn't know how to position a wall JUST because he doesn't have a specific coach to tell him that? Any football fan with some sort of brain could tell him that!
Dude, it's been months since we've had a keeper coach, even longer since we've had a regular, reliable back four that all appear to be playing from the same tactics sheet. Chimbonda is as useful as a chocolate teapot most of the time, wandering out of position, being shamed and owned on more than one occasion. Dawsons shown that, without a leader next to him, he get's confused and out of position too. Lee isn't even a factor anymore, O'hara is slower than a duck with a skip tied around it's neck. BAE and Gilberto, who knows what. Bale, bless him, shouldn't even be near a first team - he should be confined to the reserves until his bones stop growing and stop risking, what could well be, one of the finest left feet we've had at the lane.

There's no cohesion anymore and i believe a bit part of that is down to Robbos confidence. He doesn't trust himself physically, he won't trust himself to know what's right to order that back line about.

So, he got caught out when lining up a wall - in hindsight we're all the greatest keepers in the world and, yeah, i know that you'll all come on here with your Neville Southall hats on going on about "it was a basic error" etc - tell me then, where was his cover behind that wall? Was anyone covering the side he went, other than the wall?

Since when has a wall made any difference anyway?? There's many players now who can top over that wall and have the ball drop in from less than 20 yards out - if he'd covered the other side and that had happened - who's fault then? Robbos.

Again.

He cannot win and, at the moment, can't get the perspective or opinion, or even encouragement, to find out where his game has fallen over.

If only he'd realised there were so many world class keeper coaches on here, maybe he'd have come asking.

Funny how much people know when they don't have to prove it, huh?

So how routine is routine? We've conceded 17 in ten games since he returned to the team. Of those you can say two—the free kicks at Wembley and yesterday—were 100% down to Robbo errors. As for the remainder, he might have done better with two or three, but by the same token he's pulled off a number of very good saves.

Can we do better? Well, yes, we can. There's no question of that. But when I see people who cite his undeniably poor command of his area go on to claim Cudicini would be a good replacement I do wonder what they're on. And coincidentally, Kameni, who would appear to be top of the shopping list, has let in 17 in Espanyol's last seven league games. He may, of course, have been responsible for none of them. I wouldn't know. It's a worrying statistic, nevertheless.

What I do know is that until we get defensive displays like yesterday's out of our system any replacement is going to be horribly exposed.

ah, y'know what, Michey, i can't be arsed - you don't listen anyway, forget it
Kinda right back at you.....but please keep on since it's always nice with a few laughs reading your posts filled with different ways of defending poor players

I wouldn't write that are qualityplayers are poor and i don't hate anyone......but that doesn't mean that bad players should be defended until it just gets absurd........but as i said, keep it up.

The same could be said of changing the manager. A coach spots things that you can't see that needs changing. Look at David James, his attitude to training and his mindset is so different to what it was 5+ years ago. He might not be the best in the world but he's a heck of a lot better than he was.

nice edit - yet again, you express your opinion with no response to the facts placed before you, at all.

Are you happy that we have no keeper coach? Do you think other keepers will see joining Spurs as a great opportunity, knowing they'll be coming here to learn without a coach? Do you think that our current defence is good enough? Do you think that Robbo could recover his form? What would encourage that?

feel free to actually respond to any of them, rather than just tell me, once more, how shit Robbo is :|

I watched the final again at the weekend and if Keano had stayed where he was he would have stopped the free kick, instead he jumped towards the wall leaving a gap. Goals can come down to any little error, but it's always the 'keeper, in our case Robbo, who is always in the wrong.

I still rate him, give him a season with a settled back four and I think he'll be back to his best.

No we don't have a good defence...but we've replaced some parts of it and hopefully Robbo is next.

As many others have written.....a keeper-coach would obviously be good but Robbo can't even handle the basic stuff anymore, as catching crosses, setting up a wall and stand on the correct side of the same.

Robbo hasn't recovered his form in nearly two seasons...so no i don't think so.

It's not like the tub of shit has never had a goddamn goalkeeping coach. Hell he had one at the beginning of the season and last year, when he was just as bad. So you're argument is "grasping for straws"

Whatever justifications you need to make, keep on keeping on brother. You have to be right no matter how much it would cost this club.

You've went from a wise contributor, to a cult like kool-aid sipping PR machine for the worst keeper in the league.

This threads just turned into the Robbo haters just continually ripping on any of us who dare to have faith in him and are prepared to consider the bigger picture - doesn't bother me further than it being really dissapointing that we've got so many short sighted, instant-win, we-know-best "fans".

As i said - buying it isn't success and the grass isn't always greener. Chelspurs fans with no idea of what football's about, just what you're fed by the TV and redtops. mugs

Go on, back to the game that Sky built.

That's the spirit! When people on here don't agree with your logic, simply abuse them whilst at the same time being very obnoxious and condescending. Also whilst doing this abusing, categorising the non believers to "Chelspurs fans with no idea of what football's about, just what you're fed by the TV and redtops. mugs "

Still agree with RSS - yesterday was a great example of how to let your keeper down. Even the free kick goal was a result of poor defending in a very dangerous position. I reckon as many as 3 out of 10 would be scored from there and the keeper is on a hiding to nothing. If he covers "his" side it's flipped over the wall or around it - a good case can be made for a man on the post even though it plays them on side, at least you'd gain an opportunity to defend.
Poor poor poor defending and poor bloody attacking and an abysmal midfield with both performance and tactical ineptitude as well as attitude issues screwed us royally in the second half but it wasn't down to the keeper.

Robbo is shit. There is no debate at all about this. I can't believe this thread is as long as it is. Take your blinkers off Robbo fans and support Spurs instead, you'll see how rubbish he really is.

See - i make reference to the defeatist attitude and spend-for-success culture that's ruining the game and i'm ripped by GL here - read back and see how many of the posts above have dished out the same to me for presenting facts, asking questions, looking for answers etc. and how many people seem to accept that's fine and dandy.

You're a bunch of jokers

Makes me chuckle the fact that you can also be sarcastic in your post, GL, yet start with the sentence: "When people on here don't agree with your logic, simply abuse them whilst at the same time being very obnoxious and condenscending" - well, if i came across as obnoxious or condescending then i apologise but i can be much, much worse if you want  Really, i don't mind

Well, i'll just sit here on a forum in silence then - i won't try to encourage real debate, i'll not use examples or facts to highlight my point or use "logic" and i certainly won't taint any of you with my opinion, i'll go back to just posting pictures and spamming, i can't be fucked with this anymore.

And as if on cue, yet another beautifully worded, open to debate post, from a contributor who has obviously read this thread :|

How do i respond then?

Calling Robbo shit is not supporting Spurs.

It's doing the opposite, if anything.

Robbo is a Spurs player and therefore I support him (whether I think he's good enough or not) and will continue to do so whilst he is still wearing a Tottenham shirt.
