Arsenal's best players left despite having regular CL football, the reason in most of those cases is because they felt they had a better chance of winning something elsewhere.

I see it as important for football for club like ours without the money bags to show the others that you don't need to sell your soul to the devil to mix it with the big boys.

It would also be a show case of successful sustainability in which football can be run, if other clubs were to follow our example, it would ultimately make the league more exciting rather than having clubs like Chelsea and City buying competitions year in and year out.

As well as attracting players who can pass, know where the goal is and have a bit of brain matter to improve themselves as well as all the good work we do within the community.

Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man's world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich man's world
Aha-ahaaa
All the things I could do
If I had a little money
It's a rich man's world

It's a good question, obviously we all want to finish in the top four. Don't know why people are being so sarky on that front. It's just would you prioritise actually winning trophies over maybe just even a cl play off place. Trophies every day for me. who's to say we're going to spend loads more more on better players if we come fourth, because I for one can't see it.

The OP didn't ask if we'd prioritise top four over trophies.

He asked why top four is so important to us. For once people are actually answering the question by the OP.

Top four gets the club approx. £30m more than 5th. So for most people it is a very obvious question and hence saracasm.

People would rather finish 1st than 2nd because you win the league.
People would rather finish 17th to 18th because you don't get relegated.
People would rather finish 5th than 7th because you are guaranteed EL.
People would rather 4th than 5th because you get the chance at CL and all the money that comes with it.
People don't care if they finish 9th or 12th because both are mid-table and no difference in prestige.

Genuine question.

We are a long way off ever challenging to win this competition. Yet it is what 99% of you want on here (over winnings trophies)

Why is it so important to us in your opinion?

Honestly think we might be making it into something far more important than it actually is.

Before we qualified for the CL the assumption was is that it would propel us into title challengers and we would be able to buy up proper world class players. In reality it didnt really make much of a world changing shift at all, we still couldnt compete with Chelscum, Utd and City and continued chasing the promising cheap deals. We wont be chasing Cavani and Falcao if we are in or not and we certainly wont be winning the fucking thing.

If we dont qualify, i really dont think it will be terminal to our ambitions at all. We have signed Verts, Lloris, Lewis and Dembele without it and I really cant see Bale leaving this summer. Potential Players arent stupid they know we are going places.

Arsenal players have only departed for Barcelona, Man Utd and Man City. All three offer a big increase in wages and a chance at winning the title.

If we win 3 cups in the next 3 seasons but don't have CL I can't imagine their players wanting to join us.

Top 4 = Champions League

Champions League = Money & Prestige

Money & Prestige = Better players

Better players = Better Team

Better team = Higher chance of winning trophies

Extra revenue, the chance to pit our self against some of the best clubs in the World, higher quality signings, keeping our best players.

Yes, but this is after a few years where they see no progression and decide to leave not only for CL, but to win things and better contracts. Being in the CL attracts the players to start with, its then upto the players and the club to progress further.

Being out of the CL, means that potential players would rather goto Arsenal than us in the 1st instance.

I cant imagine them wanting to join us even with CL football.

Arsenal are a prime example of this being untrue in recent years. Any money they have to spend this summer is largely down to the huge commercial success of their stadium. Granted this is partly due to CL participation, but it hasn't led to any trophies and I can't see how they will challenge for any trophies next season (CL or PL not Carling Cups).

I'm personally more obsessed with finishing above Arsenal. I'm 22 so I've never really experienced it. That in itself speaks volumes about how horrid we've been for the last 20 years. Our best team in 25 years is incapable of finishing above Arsenal's worst in 15 years.

Neither can I but I don't believe for a second that lack of cups is why Arsenal's players are leaving.

They are only leaving for clubs at the top of the tree who offer title challenges and huge wages.

We can't attract those players if we don't pay high enough wages. I also think that we will have to qualify at least a couple of times in succession to get those players.

Well we are what?, the 13th richest club in the world having only played ( I could have said qualified but we've actually done that twice) CL footy once, so you could say we are doing very well without regular CL. However qualifying year on year out would help us get the bigger stadium, and potentially allow us to close the gap. At present we are at our maximum based on infrastructure and current potential IMHO.

Finishing in the top 4 every year on top of our very sound foundations would take us to the next level.

Whilst on subject. All those saying the Europa has harmed our chances of top 4 this season...well I don't see anyone who wasn't in Europe or exited Europe early (City aside) above us.

Yeah, I agree, but we have to get into the CL first, then build upon that and be regular contenders to compete with the likes of Arsenal and co. Winning Europa will only attract certain players and wet their appetites for so long.

The clubs at the top of tree can win the title, domestic cups champions league. RVP could have gone to Man City if it was just about money.

I didn't say it was just about money. I said title challenges and money.

Lack of domestic trophies has had no affect on Arsenal's ability to hold onto players or attract them.

We didn't build upon it last time, we did nothing. What makes you think next time will be different?
