Why NOW MR Levy...Why NOW?

I respect Mr. Levy coming out and stating what he stated yesterday and applying pressure to Man U and Liverpool, however, we need to pose some questions:

The most vital question is WHY NOW?

If as he says Man U and Liverpool enquired early about the two players and there has been Media talks by more than a few weeks about these players, we need to ask ourselves, how come now he all of a sudden jumps and states what we have been craving to hear from weeks now?!

Could it be that:

1. He has now accepted an offer(s) for them?
2. He needs to justify and pacify these deals?
3. He has already got his targets and is now waiting for the accepted offer from Man U and Liverpool and looking to get as much as we can profit on them!

I'd like to think that its point 3. Levy is a shrewd businessman and i believe we may have got our targets in secure already and just waiting for the ideal offer from Rafa and SAF.
Some ITKs (that we have been knocking and who seemed right all along, who told us as is and not what we wanted to hear) have also stated that two players... blah blah... Friday (yesterday) and i doubt they were refering to the two puppets RK and DB leaving us. It was believed that we were negotiating for two new arrivals.

Something tells me that this summer will still be one of our most successful to date and that there will be quality to challenge the top 4 and quality prolific strikers.

So Why NOW MR LEVY? Have you already got us our ideal replacements and playing your cards right. Coz if that wasn't the case then i am sure that you would at least have called an important meeting with JR and DC to sort out this so call mess! and look for new avenues!

Fair say but why did he not react publicly to rafa's comment a week ago too! He just reported them to PL

As The Goat said, Berbs (with Dantchev) and Ramos were flown in for a late night meeting with the board. Levy's statement presumably came as an outcome of that meeting.

Oh. This is new to me! Didn't know that.
But wasn't it the Goat who also mentioned interesting issues in regards to two signings on Friday?

Point 3 for me

I agree with you he is maximising the profit on Berbatov and Keane he has also achieved a number of other things.

1) I believe that both berbatov and keane have no choice but to put in transfer requests that will make us an additional £4m in unpaid bonuses etc.

2) He has cornered Man U and Liverpool into paying what we want for the players, they can't walk away from these deals now because of Premier league sanctions and possible legal reprocusions under corporate law. If Levy can proove that these comments have affected our share price it could cost them Millions in compensation.

3) He has fired a shot over the bows of other prospective agents whishing to move their players on at our expense.

4) If Man U and Liverpool are smart they will get these deals done quickly so we can get in replacements in time for the start of the season.

Ok, but have they handed a transfer request yet tho?
Dantchev will be in big poo!

No alternative

Hi Ackie,

I don't see that they have an alternative, there has been so many league rules broken by Liverpool, united and the players agents they will all want this to go away real quick.

He didn't react,as we all know that the Scousers are skint. They can't raise 18p let alone £18m, so Levy thought it was tongue in cheek!!. Good luck to Keane, he'll finish maybe 4th instead of 5th, he'll get probably 10 - 15 starts instead of 40. He'll pick up £70k instead of £60k. He'll be off loaded in 2 years to Hull City for nothing and a massive wage reduction, instead of enjoying another 4 years at WHL where he is adored by most.

Hi Ron,

So we get more money then right...?
Your personal opinion - do we already have someone lined and signed up?

I thinl partly why now - is that he's simply had had enough and up with this no more will he put - remember we have previous with pool over Defoe and to an extent MU over Carrick (tho that got resolved 'amicably')

I also think (tho I'm no legal expert) he's preparing the way for court action - which is the only way I see for serious compenstion to be had for the damage done to us (or of course the famous 'out of court settlement')

And he might as well get the legal circus rolling while the clowns still have their make up on (so to speak :)

Andwe now need to get some new players in - so this kind of forces us to do that - with maybe the fans being kept onside -

Though we seem to be getting shafted by ManU and Liverpool - and probably by the Prem Lge as well in a couple of weeks when they deliver a painful slap on the wrist and a 10p fine for tapping-up our players - I can't help feeling this another example of Levy proving what a great businessman he is and maybe the departure of our two strikers isn't the catastophe everyone is thinking. (But all the same, wouldn't it be great is MU and Liv got hit with a 20pt deduction ?)

We'll get in the thick end of 50mil on these two deals - with around 20mil more when we've offloaded a few more to Sunderland. Take away the 30mil we've already spent and that leaves a pretty chunky war-chest of around 40mil for a new striker - or two - plus the elusive DM. That balances the books nicely - and it also frees up Ramos to maybe play with the lone striker formation he seems to want.

Final thought: best way to stop the top4 tapping-up our players is to become a top4 club ourselves.

A certain amount of it is saving face with the fans.

By no means a bad thing, as something needed to be said and in the mainstay it appears to have worked.

I love reading Levy's statements although the fact that keane and berba want to go was not pleasant reading. You can alwyas sense levy's emotion and he seems pretty p!ssed off by the whole process.....as we all are.

I think its a clever statement as it effectively puts us in charge of the deal, if Pool and Manure pay what we want the complaints to the PL will go away.

Whether the PL take any action i don't know, is there a precedent for tapping up cases? I would think that punishments would be compensation but could they go a far as points deductions, transfer embargos etc?

Levy will push for the best possible deal for THFC. I'm concerned that he will push too hard and the deals do not materilise, we're then left with two very talented but probably demotivated players, whose head and hearts are elsewhere.

If we could get £25m for Berba and £18m for Keane we have to take this. I do have concerns about replacing berab, who is far more valuable to the team than Keane. Keane has been a fantastic player for THFC, but I noted last year that he is losing any pace that he had and an element of his trickery.

Maybe it's the right time to sell Keane, but time will only tell.

From my understanding, Levy actually reported Rafa earlier, it was that it was just being made public yesterday.

To be quite honest I had been resigned to the fact that we would be losing Berbatov from the end of last season. Where I am struggling is that Keane is leaving at the same time as well. It was our offensive play that won us the CC and kept us in the EPL, so now to lose 3 out of 4 our strike force in a matter of months, I wonder where we go from here.

I agree 100% about your evaluation of Keane as I did share those sentiments, the problem IMO is them being allowed to leave at the same time.

Villa + Podolski

Hi Ackie,

I don't know why, I have a gut feeling that we will start the season with Villa, Podolski and Peckhart as our strikers. I think we will get Villa for about £30M and Podolski for £15M.

By the way I did a rough estimate of who we are likely to sell and we should get roughly £90M in: -

tanio, Chimbonda, Branc, Kaboul £23M
Keane £20M
Berbatov £25M
Gardner £2-3M
Botang £3M
Robo £4M
LYP £0.5M
Staltari £0.5M
Rocha £0.5M
Bent £10-12M

Taking into account the £20M spent in January + £27M already spent on Modric, Dos Santos and Gomez + £45M for Villa and Podolski and it all looks quite acheivable.
