Profitable, settled, fourth in the league – let’s face it this wasn’t really supposed to happen at all. For Spurs fans the temptation must be not to blink

On reflection to the Leicester result, Spurs fans haven't had it this good for a while.

What an absolutely brilliant, sensible and measured article that ALL Spurs fans should read and take stock of.

An excellent article. It's the second time I've read that Poch was tense throughout the match, but as he said after the match we need to stay calm and learn. A young team like this needs to learn to not just expect things to come to them, but to go for the throat more vigorously; and if things aren't happening, then not to lose. The system he has has been working very well, which is why I can't stand the mention of the fabled Plan B. We have been let down by individual errors. I think the system needs a number of fit midfielders, so that they can be interchanged during the game to avoid fatigue and mistakes.

1. There is no plan 'B' because we have not got another out and out striker to throw on and change our formation/tactics.
2. By 'interchanged' you must mean the like for like changes we make that change personnel but change nothing tactically

Think all this "Spursy" stuff is a recent phenomenon? The term might be new but.... At the end of the 1926/1927 season, Spurs sold one of their best ever players to date, Jimmy Seed, to Sheffield Wednesday because he objected to having his wages cut from £8 per week to £7... Spurs spent most of the 27/28 season in the top half of the table. They won 5-2 away to that season's champions Everton. Come Easter, Spurs were in 6th place. Then they went into a slump. Finished with 38 points (from 42 games, 2pts per win) - not really bad, normally. But got relegated!!! Despite being only 15 points off first place! Sheffield Wednesday finished the season with 17pts (8 wins, one draw and one loss) from their final 10 games after having promoted said Jimmy Seed to captain. Wednesday were one of seven teams on 39 points. Even FOURTH place only had 44 points! Even more Spursy is the fact that Wednesday won the league during the following two seasons with Seed as captain! Now THAT has to be the definition of Spursy yes?

Here's the table from that season: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1927–28_Football_League

So do I, but we were certainly very damn 'Spursy' against Leicester the other night!
See this is my problem with the word

We lose to a very good team - oh Spursy, we'll always let you down. It doesn't make any sense.

So far this season has been one of my favourites as a Spurs fan. The Arsenal domination, the Man City thrashing, the young players coming through, the Watford game. So why are people still peddling this line when we occasionally lose - every team loses.

I fucking hate the word Spursy!
Haha i can see why but what the heck i quite like it.

As the article says other clubs Liverpool, Man Utd have 'splurged' like us on shit buys. Also other clubs like us have buggered up big time, how many times have Arsenal looked like champions and the ended up 4th. Liverpool with the Gerard slip were the same. I bet their fans think the same but instead of 'Spursy' it is 'Arsey'? or 'Liverpooley'?

I'm proud of our club. Yes we have many false dawns and a few too many lows, but so what. If it is 'Spursy' to have the most young English players in the first team regularly I can accept that. Also if it is also 'Spursy' that we can stuff Chelsea at home one week and lose at Palace the next, so what. That is what makes it fun.

I actually perversly love the fact we can be 2-0 up at home with 5 minutes to go and I still am bricking it that we may lose. Maybe I am just a Spursy guy. And also a little drunk to be honest.

There's a mistaken belief that he is tactically inflexible, but it is partly down to not having the personnel yet. As regards the like for like changes, usually the tactics have been working. The assumption is that a change in tactics will result in a goal, but it may have the opposite effect as we have a young team that it drilled in a particular way. However, in time they will be have the maturity to think on the pitch. That's what the great teams do.

He waited too long to do anything on Wednesday and it's not the first time this season.
He seems more likely to change it up when we're winning than when we're not.
That's a bit of a problem but hopefully he'll learn.

Still laughing at this

"Having whirled between Harry Redknapp, André Villas-Boas and Sherwood – managers so different that to appoint them one after the other is a bit like serving your players a three-course meal of sushi, Swiss cheese fondue and lamb jalfrezi and then wondering why they look a bit queasy"

The "high fives in the boardroom" quip is great too. As is "Which is certainly a very expensive way of buying Emre Can".

Don't always agree with Ronay but he always has a lovely way with words

Couldn't agree more with this. We had most of the match the other night, played reasonably well, competed admirably, created enough - if not exactly plenty - of chances to win and were beaten by a late goal for the team that went joint top of the table. And all this with the youngest team in the league and one that lacks a really world-class player in the final third of the field: an Aguero or a Sanchez.

That isn't Spursy. That's an emerging team giving their all and punching their weight. What might have been Spursy had we lost again today. We didn't. Far from.

We're not Spursy. We're Pochettino-y. And it's great!
