If it means getting grealish and zaha instead of martial and Poch is happy then who can argue with that, especially if it means manure have no leverage over Toby deal

How Zaha plays for Palace does not translate to how he would perform for a top 6 team. Why ? Because Palace are rarely on the front foot so he gets to hit teams on the break. A good parallel would be Darren Bent, good at Charlton, garbage at Spurs, good again at Sunderland. A player who played well for teams that sat deep and was useless for a team that had the ball most of the time.

I’m not saying it is a certainty Zaha would bomb at Spurs but I think there is a reasonable probability.

Darren Bent is like Jamie Vardy in that pretty much all his goals came against a high line or in counter attacks.

I don't think that applies to Zaha. If you beat a defender 40 yards out with skill you can do the same in the box. When playing as a ST he's held the ball up as much as trying to play on the last man. A lot of teams sit deep away from home even against the likes of Palace too.

Not so sure Bent was anywhere near "garbage" - scored a goal nearly every 3 games statistically, and spent his 2 seasons under 3 permanent managers. Harry made a scapegoat of him imo. Would prefer to have that player now, over Llorente and Janssen.

The problem with stats is that they do not tell the whole story. If you watch Palace a lot, and I do (they are effectively my second team) you'd see that Zaha has been phenomenal all season. Literally everything good comes from him, even if he doesn't get the stat. He is the captain Tsubasa of that team.

To illustrate this:

Palace with Zaha

W 11 D 11 L 7

Points with Zaha: 44

Points per Game: 1.52

Predicted points: 57

Predicted position: 7th

Palace without Zaha

W 0 D 0 L 9

Points without Zaha: 0

Points per game: 0

Predicted points: 0

Predicted position: 20th

I fully believe there is not a single player as influential for their own team as Zaha is for Palace, and I include Salah in that.
I completely agree. We also should remember that he is sometimes double and triple marked at palace because they have no other threatening players. He has huge potential and could be immense for us.

You just never know with any of these guys. Are they overperforming bc they get more chances on a shitty team? Would they be even better on a good team bc they are on a shitty team with poor quality teammates?

I think he's better than Son, personally. But that's just one man's opinion.
son far better playerdifferent gravy from zaha

Errm, Salah carried Liverpool to 4th and the CL final. Without Salah, Liverpool looked clueless. Wanna try again?

Would make Lucas the most pointless signing in a while. Again, I'd rather the money went elsewhere.

Does seem odd. That will be Eriksen, Zaha, Grealish, Dele, Son, Lucas, Lamela as attacking mids. Lucas couldn't get a game last season as is. Seems overloaded to me.

I would have thought Zaha or Martial would rotate / sub with Kane as well as Dele or whoever.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Lamela go from what Herc has said.

Yeah maybe. I'm sure Poch has a plan for it all.

*Awaits flourish of optimistic ratings*

Agreed, but based on media reports and ITK this seems to be where we're heading.

For me it can only mean that we're either switching to a setup similar to City's in which Eriksen, Dele, Lamela, Grealish, and Winks would be tasked with playing No. 8 in a CM3, or that we're looking to sell Lamela. Or both.

Only way it makes sense to me is if we go 433/4141 and/or lamela leaves

Especially with our lack of links to cms

Think it's only overloaded by 1 player, Lamela probably. If we want to compete in the league, CL and domestic cups we need options. Say Zaha, Eriksen and Dele started it means we've got Grealish, Lucas and Son on bench as attacking options. Beyond that there's no one else in squad attacking wise, wouldn't say it's exactly bloated.

All I know is Sissoko started 15 league games last season and mostly not in a central mid position so there's games there for all. Plus it means we can actually rotate Dele and more importantly Eriksen out without it being huge drop off in quality.

Would have preferred to get Fekir for 55 mil over Zaha and Martial. He would have been an excellent signing for us. Exactly what we need. I am not really a fan of Zaha but if he’s available I’m not suprised we are going for him. Out of the two I would have prefered Martial. I just really hope we sort out our midfield.

The only thing I like about him is that he is bums off seats. But we play against teams that park the bus and don’t push up. Do we need that pace and strength or do we need guile and technique?

I think we all know the answer.

Premium Sport are reporting this evening that the agent of Bordeaux star #Malcom is flying to England to speak with both Liverpool and
Tottenham about potentially signing the Brazilian.

Zaha alternative or completely different type of player?

Frustrating to see the Fekir price being mooted at £48.4m plus add ons, but I'm not sure if we could have competed anyway. Klopp seems really good at tapping players up. Even dragged VVD away from Pep.
