+ Champs league which used to an excuse why we couldn't go out and get the better talent out there.
We also never made champions league at that point. Chelsea are still fairly consistent at getting Champions league. Not like just one season is make or break from them. If they don't lose Hazard after adding Jorginho and bringing in Zaha, they are looking really dangerous.

One thing we can't offer him is a guaranteed starting spot with Son, Lucas and Lamela already fighting for his position. If Hazard leaves Zaha would be one of the main men at Chelsea. Can see why that might tempt him. Oh and 50,000 other reasons.

So us having Champions League football doesn't matter now then? Okay!

Don’t agree at all actually. If we both agree fees I’m pretty confident he’d choose us - wages would be similar (he won’t get the top bracket of wages at either, but would be offered 100-120k), and we have CL football, and Pochettino. I just think Chelsea are far more likely to agree a fee than we are for obvious reasons.

Fine until Chelsea give him £200k per week.

You'd be surprised, an extra £50k a week goes along way.

Depends how desperate Chelsea are.

Current info is that their top paid player is Eden Hazard on £200kpw. Guess how much we pay Harry Kane? Would they really pay Zaha that either? Their other attackers are reported to be around the £120k mark. They would probably offer similar to us.

The big issue would be fees and signing on/loyalty bonuses which they would be a lot more flush on if Willian or especially Hazard left.

Chelsea were notorious last window for losing out on targets. They have beat City to Jorginho this summer so maybe things are changing but that was a bundle with the manager. They operate within their own means now and we are constantly catching them in turnover. If we pushed hard I actually think we'd have a chance to beat them currently, but I'm not convinced we've decided to go all in for Zaha.

Zaha would have be mental to go Chelsea with their recent track record on signings. No CL football, new manager, best players possibly leaving.

I mean a sensible person wouldn't take long to pick us over them but hey, no idea if Wilf is a sensible chap.

Plus they have a track record of winning trophies, whether we like to acknowledge it or not, which, when combined with a better financial deal, can also sway a player.
Precisely. Everyone is referring to money, as though that would be the only factor at play here. Well how about that Chelsea are actually used to winning things, and we’re not?

I'm afraid money means more. The reason players choose clubs that are in the CL rather than us before was the better exposure they get with CL and that would enhance their value and pay packets. Now if Chelscum should offer him a much bigger paycheck, there is no more need to play in the CL hoping to catch someone else's eyes in the hope of a payrise.
