Not at all, the excuse keeps changing is all.

Have to see if Zaha picks us or Chelsea.
What excuse did I give? Chelsea are in the champions league over the last several years far more often than we are and even won the damn thing not all that long ago. We are in our fourth ever season of being in it? Not to mention Chelsea constitently win trophies. It's not just one factor or another its everything rolled into one. Like it or not Chelsea is still a more prestigious club than we are. We can maybe change that outlook as a club on the up and up but we aren't going to just start beating them out for players because we have champions league this year and they don't.

If we offer a potential player stupidly low ages, probably not. Ross Barklay anyone? The Bookies seem to think he'll go to Chelsea. If Chelsea offer three times the wages then that has to be a potential head turner, no?
Someone’s going to have to explain the logistics to me here. Zaha is on ~100k a week at Palace. Chelsea’s top earner and ours are both on 200k a week, with other key attacking players said to be on 100-120k. How can anyone come to the conclusion that Chelsea would offer 50k a week more than us, or three times the amount? What imaginary figures are you thinking will be offered?

In this case it's not quite possible. Zaha is already on £110k so we can't totally low ball him. Probably ask for the same wages. Offer him the same as Dele/Son (less than Eriksen and Kane) I say. If that doesn't work so be it.

For a player that's been in this league, Poch has to be a big selling point, we also have CL football and an exciting new stadium. We aren't selling our top players either.

IF the fee is locked in I think we'd have a shot.

Cool, we'll see if Zaha picks us over them.

Wouldn't surprise me if he signs a new deal with Palace. The whole instagram thing could be a PR thing.

Just the kind of thing I want to read before going to bed.

I would say there's arguments for joining either side.
More for us and I don't think wages are an issue but then you think Chelsea have still won trophies in each of the last 2 seasons and it's back in the balance again.

If you some fancy feeling a 'touch' more positive than normal it'd be worth having a browse back through this thread from some of the ITK we have had about Zaha.

If it doesn't come off then those with the pragmatic view that Chelsea could have a bigger draw will be proved right. Let's hope not though, eh?!

I'm confident he'll choose us but I gotta say......if he does end up at Chelsea I will be absolutely gutted
I wouldn't be. I can see genuine reasons for choosing either of us, and also for him deciding to stay at Palace (which we seem to forget is always an option). I don't personally think he massively improves either us or them, and my only reasoning for wanting him is because Poch does.

I'm afraid money means more. The reason players choose clubs that are in the CL rather than us before was the better exposure they get with CL and that would enhance their value and pay packets. Now if Chelscum should offer him a much bigger paycheck, there is no more need to play in the CL hoping to catch someone else's eyes in the hope of a payrise.

I think this is overly cynical. Some players may be purely motivated by money, all of them will be to some extent. But ultimately footballers are individuals and whilst most will share similar motivations they will vary in importance from player to player.

Champions League is obviously a very appealing factor for Zaha, but ultimately I do think he’ll chose the club that offers him a better financial package...
One of the highest earners at the club (Chelsea) if that happens then I would have thought considering the money he is already reportedly being paid at Palace.

It feels very much as if he is the backup option. From all reports Poch likes him a lot but I think Martial is option 1 and we’ll hold out until then resulting in him going to Chelsea.

Couple additional things that could be a factor are how Sarri was able to develop Dries Mertens for Napoli, he could be able to do the same for Zaha. Additionally, we saw the exact same player type and position turn us down last year in Balde Keita so it isn't a given that Poch can just convince anyone of the project.
