Because Poch wanted him I assume. Though it's bound to be Levy's fault somewhere.

Not Levy' s fault but it seems a lack of foresight by all concerned. Maybe someone should have had a word in Poch's ear. The kid is hardly ever going to play for Spurs and now the club are using all excuses under the sun for why we can't sign anyone.

Maybe we shouldn't have filled the squad with such shite in the first place. That's what happens when you take risks on cheap signings. They are no good and you can't get rid of them. Penny pinching always comes back to bite.

Schurrle apparently leaving Dortmund, with Palace the rumored destination. I would guess that makes Zaha a little more available to someone.

I just hope that Poch gets something off his wish list, and if that's Zaha it's fine with me. Levy has to be prepared to take a hit on some of the outgoings, especially with the change in transfer window timings working against us. Keeping Poch onboard is so important for us now.

It seems from all the latest ITK that Zaha isn't happening but hopefully he's still getting Grealish.

I just reread the latest ITK and it doesn't say that, do you mean the latest reports from twitter or have I missed something?

My concern would be that we won't go after a player Poch wants purely on financial grounds which will piss him off. I'm not for or against Zaha, I'm just very pro Poch and it seems likely that foreign clubs will have the upper hand in later negotiations. It will be bad news if we fail to bring in anyone the Guv wants but then sell the likes of Toby and Dembele when we can't replace. Seems to me that we either have to gamble on buying first or accept minimal dealings, none of which sounds 'brave'.

Well JJetset said it's unlikely yesterday on Twitter. Hercules said on Friday "We value Zaha around 55m mark. I can’t see it myself happening, due to past negotiation tactics and history our end."

We're buying Grealish though apparently.

Grealish will, IMO, be an excellent signing if we ever get it over the line. I'd be OK with what we have + him tbh with Winks hopefully returning and Onomah and Foyth waiting in the wings, but Poch has wanted Zaha for ages now, and whilst he is always very diplomatic, the list of players he wanted and never got is frustratingly long. I'd like to see Levy stick his neck out for once and give the man what he wants presuming that the ITK 'we have the money' stance is accurate.

Yeah sure but I assume Poch understands as well as any manager they can't have every player they want. We've brought in players he's wanted in the past and by all accounts we're bringing in Grealish who he wants this window. We all want the manager to have everything they want but that isn't going to happen. Even Pep at City hasn't got all the players he's wanted.

Can we put to bed the idea that Poch has a say in ALL the signings we've made?

See this quote from Poch's book on Sissoko.

"I think Daniel's thought process was, "he's a good player, but Mauricio will make him better". We'll see." — Poch

This doesn't exactly fill me with confidence though. Not throwing any toys out the pram but I can't argue with my feelings, it just simply doesn't. It seems like it's gonna be one of those windows where again, it closes and we say to ourselves "actually, it wasn't such a bad window, we still have player X and player Y". We still have every reason to compete well with the squad we have, but again may not make the moves to push beyond.

I still have hope that we will add to what we have in any sort of impressive manner but I'm not gonna act like the supremely level headed person (not aiming at you mate) and be happy that we've essentially only brought in a championship player over the whole summer window. And that's no disrespect to Grealish as I too think he could be quite a good signing but I'm just saying it as it actually is.

I just think that with Martial and maybe now Zaha fading away, my optimism is lessening.

I agree. Our optimism fading away is just something I think we're used to, but if Poch's optimism starts fading I think it will bite Levy 'big time' in the arse.

I am actually gutted about Zaha. Am hoping JJs unlikely means we have better lined up but who am I kidding. The optimism is dead in me
