He'd have to be something really special for us to go to the extra effort of bringing him in because if there's one area in which we don't lack for highly promising youngsters it's midfield. Signing Hughes wouldn't send a great message to the likes of Carroll, Mason, Luongo and Pritchard. I think that all of those four are going to be quality players, whether that be for us or someone else. However, if Hughes is truly a cut above even their level then go for it. We'd better be damned sure about it though because his presence would likely block the progress of another.

Or maybe Levy thinks be can get him on the cheap now and make a huge profit in 3-4 years on him

We could, but it would still be detrimental to the progress of another. Anyway I very much doubt that it will happen precisely for that reason.

Looks impressive. £10m is a huge price tag though, hopefully Daniel can whittle it away a bit.

what do the brummies want for Redmond?...
No idea but probably a similar amount, sure both could be good players but atm not worth that kind of money, i mean we got verts for close to 10 mill o_O

I'd much prefer Zaha to Redmond due to us presumably moving to a 4-3-3. Zaha has a much more attractive goal scoring record and I actually think the ceiling is higher for Zaha. I don't think Zaha will go for anything more than 12m, so if the values are similar, I'd take the Zaha/Hughes combination as our prospect purchases for the future.

So would I but only after we give our own prospects a go and see who's worth keeping.

£10 million would be a massive gamble. Sure, it may work out but lets be honest, in the football business there are 9 misses for every hit. He sure looks to be the real deal but for most (very) young players it just doesn't work out at the highest level. I'd rather see us spend on a midfielder that will improve the first team this window.

I would like us to do both. We need to keep on buying players like Lennon, Bale, Walker, Sandro at a young age that will come through. I admit that £10m is a bit too much but I'm sure that Daniel can have it in instalments that will be dependant on performance.
We do have some good players coming through as well.

True I guess but Sandro did win trophies while at Inter. He was much more of a finished article than Hughes is.
